What would be the top 7 MMOs in your opinion!

pongdunpongdun Member UncommonPosts: 81

Hi guys I'm checking MMORPG's website and here's the released top list:

1. TSW

2. GW2

3. Darkfall

4. Path Exile

5. Rift

6. Planetside 2

7. Tera

I don't feel this is the real "reality".. so what you think, what's your 7 top list, base on number of players, fun, endgame, etc?

    For me personally:

    1. GW2 - Because of the value for money, I don't play it anymore but I think everyone should have

    2. WoW - Because it's the only MMO that is improving on the kill x mobs thing (vehicle, companions, turrets, etc.)

    3. Rift - Because it has the best class system

    4. PoE - It's not an MMO, but it's truely free and is a great co-op game

    5. EverQuest II - Massive content, gotta sub to be worth it.

    6. Neverwinter - Might be too early to tell but for now it's here because of the foundry.. pushing TERA off number 7.

    7. LOTRO - Gotta sub to be worth it, but great lore and interesting class mechanics

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

    1. Everquest (1998-2004): anything released past that date is utter rubbbish

    2. Chronicles of Spellborn: This amazing game didnt last long but the 4 months that i played it... were sheer joy and evocative imagination that i still long for. If i won the lottery i'd gather these wonderful devs and shower them with money so they might revive this game.

    3. World of Warcraft: before it became easymode, daily grinder and queue-craft

    4. DC Universe Online: My current MMO and I'm rabidly in love with it. Didnt expect to be playing it past 3 months but its been a year now and it only gets better and better... i cant get enough of this game.

    5. Anarchy Online: wonderful vibe but instances killed it

    6. Shadowbane: best pvp concept ever.. also worst programming of those concepts ever

    7. GW2: didnt like the game much at all.. far too easy, boring and unimmerisve but there is no doubt it is highly highly polished.

    8.  The Secret World: i agree with the consensus.. combat feels clunky as hell. but the setting and world environments are so damn interesting that I still play once and a while when i need a break from DCUO.

    1) Wow - It is just the biggest

    2) Rift - Great game, still playing.

    3) GW2 - Seems really popular.

    4) SWToR - Just heard they have half a milion subs and 1.2 million F2P players. Not bad.

    5)  Eve - The biggest and best sandox out there.  Not for the faint of heart.

    6)  PS2 - Maybe.

    7)  Not entirely sure who would hold 7th place...Tera?  The Secret World?  AoC?  Aion?

    Currently playing:
    Rift
    Played:
SWToR, Aion,EQ, Dark Age of Camelot
    World of Warcraft, AoC

I'm going to answer a little differently than intended, by breaking them down into categories...

Crafting - Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

    Gathering - Firefall

Character Customization - Everquest (I would say Path of Exile, but that's more of an ARPG; not an MMORPG.)

Player versus Enviroment - World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade

Player versus Player - Ultima Online

Realm versus Realm - Dark Age of Camelot

    Dynamic Encounters - Rift

    Mount System - Dragon's Prophet

Housing System - WildStar (Conceptually speaking)

    Enemies/Beastiary - Guild Wars 2

    Character Creation - Aion

Equipment Customization - City of Heroes/City of Villains

Storyline/Lore - Star Wars: The Old Republic

Overall - Scarlet Blade (Trollololololololol, jk.)

    WoW (BC early LK days)

    TSW

    GW

    Aion

    Warhammer

Playing: FFXIV, DnL, and World of Warships

    1. Ultima Online

    2. Dark Age of Camelot

    3. WoW - Vanilla-TBC and then some WoTLK

    4. Rift

    5. EQ2

    6. Warhammer

    7. Lineage 2

If I had played Asheron's Call, Shadowbane or Star Wars Galaxies, they would have made my top 7 for sure, bumping the last three off.

If only there were more hours in a day...

    Right this moment?

    1. World of Warcraft (Got bored of it some time ago though, it's still the best)

    2. Guild Wars 2 (Really bored of it, but it's still amazing and a trendsetter... Can't live without dodge in games anymore)

    3. Darkfall: UW (Did not like the game because it had too much grind for a PvP game with no real purpose to grind, would be a lot better if it started you off with the ability to be competitive with skill, but you even have to work for a few days to get to the point where skill matters)

    4. EVE: Online (Naturally, this game is just good. Not for everyone, especially not people with consuming home lives and multiple games - but just plain good)

    5. Neverwinter (Super fun, can't see it lasting... but this is RIGHT NOW)

    6. RIFT

    7. TERA

    current. not peak:

note:  Have not played EvE.  I would imagine its a top 3 game easily if you dont mind PvP focused games

    1.  EQ2

    2.  GW2

    3.  WoW

    4.  LOTRO

    5.  EQ1

    6.  AC1

    7.  AoC

5 and 6 are hurt by their age and populations, but not enough to be placed over games like Rift and TERA.

    1) Dark Age of Camelot, try to imagine a real game... PvE, PvP, Housing, expansive world, 21 Races, 45 Classes.

    2) Star Wars Galaxies, classes that weren't based around combat, player-made cities, space combat, full customization

    3) Final Fantasy XI, hardcore, translation software, anime-graphics, 22 Classes

    4) Guild Wars 1, full skill customization, builds builds builds, PvP, Mission style PvE

    5) World of Warcraft, revolutionary, ease of play so non-gamers could game, Burning Crusades

    6) City of Villains, be the bad guy, instanced questing, full gear customization

    7) Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Secret World, Warhammer Online, Aion, Age of Conan, RIFT, TERA... whatever, any other fail MMO in the last 10 years.

They keep shipping out half finished products. It is a joke.

Previous games are at a certain point now so when a new game comes out it should offer whatever is already being offered and more. 5 Race minimum, 10 Class minimum, full guild system, interesting dungeons, cinematic questing, dynamic combat, phasing world, PvP, PvE, full customization for gear and abilities.

Hence the quote by my avatar. "There's a reason you can't spell Deadline without the word 'dead'."

I believe Release Dates are the new bane of MMORPG success. They set these deadlines for themselves before testing even begins. Then they procrastinate because it's 'just beta' and they think they have plenty of time...

Time is a tricky thing but one thing is certain...

    ...time waits for no man.

  • ShakyMoShakyMo Member CommonPosts: 7,207
    Daoc (without toa and catacombs)
    Eve
    Planetside
    Coh

Other 3 varies, probably ps2, ac, then maybe war or either wow or EQ before they became dominated by instanced raiding, or maybe perpetuum which could have been great with more players.

Worst I've played swtor hands down. Also didn't like aion, Aoc, dcuo at all.
  • steusssteuss Member UncommonPosts: 130
