Castle Sieges are now live

KumaponKumapon Member EpicPosts: 1,563

This weekend marked the start of the castle sieges going live on the regular servers. Here are some updates to the siege system.

- The sieges have timers that open once a week (on Saturday night).

- Once a siege goes live only the attacking and defending guild can participate. A invisible wall goes up around the siege area. Other players can watch, but if your not in the siege, and you enter inside the wall you will be ported to the nearest bind point.

- The siege starts off as 70 vs 70. The defending guild can hire up to 30 mercenary real players to help with the defence.

- If the defending guild starts bringing in mercenaries, then after 20 mins into the battle the attacking guild can start brining in reinforcements from real players to help with the offence, up to 30 players. So the battle ends up as 100 vs 100, if enough players participate.

- If the attacking guild wins they can then lay claim to the land and can destroy anything on their new property to rebuild.

- If a guild successfully defends their land, they get special coins called "Coins of the Lord". They can use the coins to buy guild perks, and the leader can buy the "Emperor's gear" and a cool Fire horse mount. They also get double the taxes on their lands and resources. (This is put in place to make defending lands an incentive)

Here is a video that shows the Emperor's gear and the Fire Horse :

On paper seems kind of cool.  Saw the vids though and it's definitely the Korean version of seige warfare.  Lots of anime' same looking classes and races fighitng each other with lots of snazzy overdone special effects.

No variation in race and class because it's not an mmo RPG rather, it's an mmo VG (video game) - but meh, I'm not gonna be critical of an overseas Asian grinder that wants something more in depth if even this is a first step, it's a good step. :)

seems like everything, including incentives, is stacked against the attacker. yeah. that doesn't actually sound fun or interesting, honestly.

No variation in races? lol, go get bigger glasses! Also costumes were just introduced in the game, in time there will be much more difference in dressing than whats now.

No variation in classes? obvious trolling!

No RPG in AA? lol, go read some infos about the game, it has the most RPG elements from todays MMO games.

Anime? lol, Scarlet Blade, Flyff, etc are the anime games, AA not even close.

Asian grinder? getting tired of these asian racist claims, also its not a grindfest, seems you were lazy to read about the game and you are judging a game by "Asian=must be a grinder game".

    bye

its easy to critisize an actual game instead of just some features on a piece of paper wich might or might not make it into the game even.

Whil im no sure if there might be a quote out there from Trion making this release date claim, I did find this from an interview with someone from XL:

    http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/572/feature/6493

Specific quote: "Suk Woo Choi: ArcheAge will launch at the end of this year in Korea, and the goal is to launch it in North America towards the end of 2013, or the beginning of 2014."

Also something nice to note in the interview, the guy doesn't hesitate to talk about the things that players didn't like and how they went about fixing them.

I was also kind of surprised by this.

AA is by far the closest thing to what I would call MMORPG from AAA MMO games released in last 5 years.

But then again, he is one of the "asian grinder" crowd...

Notice he also refers to  "On paper" which indicates he is so underinformed that he is unaware it is in release, there are hundreds ( I may be wrong and it has reached thousands now) of videos of actual gameplay, non-Koreans playing... etc...

any footage of this? I've been waiting for this game to come out for a few years now, so I've seen almost all of the videos out. It would be cool to see what it looks. Even cooler to play but that will have to wait
  • xAPOCxxAPOCx Member UncommonPosts: 869

getting harder and harder to wait for this game. Let all those haters go play there neverwinter and GW2 crap fests. We dont want them in AA anyway. GTFO

To be honest ,i don't like sloppy pvp ,i prefer a few versus a few ,which is why i loved Arena type pvp. Also there is no terrain advantage,if it was a real castle seige,i would be holed up inside and using ranged weapons. It reminds way too much of Lineage 2 castle sieges, did not like them at all.

You need to go the whole nine yards, allow the creativity of elaborate castles, animations to show them being damaged, example "destructive surfaces".They need insides with objects and buildings inside as well and various combat structures, turrets ect ect.

That really is just a bunch of players going out in the open and spamming, nothing i would call fun or exciting.Even Raids which i don't like are more organized, you have a definite game plan.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. I loved the siege battles in L2. I agree with animation showing "destructive surfaces" that would be cool. For me L2 sieges were a form of controlled chaos having that many people going all out for PvP. It was more about the prep and an overall strategy then a point by point second by second strategy. If I was into that I would get my fix playing many of the other games with battleground/arena style PvP you seem to enjoy. Luckily for you, you have plenty of options for that style but there are very few with the gigantic L2 and hopefully AA style PvP.

Black desert does look promising but we still dont know if that game is gonna make it to the west. So if you are gonna wait for BD take a seat. Its gonna take at least 2 years.

I guess I must be utterly rabid about the game because I can't stop playing the game and I still think it has potential to be what we all want it to be. I also was personally was taken aback a bit when the car was introduced, but it does fit into the technological scheme of things and we've all been complaining that we want something new. So at the end of the day, it's a game that isn't the same copy/paste/WoW drivel that the market keeps pumping out. I guess us losers will just have to enjoy AA all by ourselves...
