Looking to buy new Headset

IsawaIsawa Member UncommonPosts: 1,051

I've got this old HP headset with poor audio and poor voice. Looking to buy something new. I normally just wear noise cancelling headphones and don't care about voice chat.

Requirements

  • Headphones fit over hears, noise cancelling feature is a plus
  • Good value for the $, Hopefully under $100
  • If this is an option, adjustable mic where instead of just rotating can you change the length of the mic. Like a bendy feature.
  • Not solely wireless, changing batteries can be annoying while gaming, so usb option is preferred. Edit, mixed this up with other peripherals, just looking for a cord :)
I think that's it, please let me know what you all think.

Thank you. They look good, where are the on-ear controls located and are they simple to use?

My son got me a Turtle Beach Earforce Z2 for my birthday and it's nice. They fit all the way around my ears, so there is no pressure on the ears themselves. Good sound quality and the microphone is good quality. Wearing it for an hour or more does not bother my neck and it doesn't bother my ears. This is a big deal, because I have neck issues and any headset that actually touches my ears bothers them after awhile. It is not USB, so the computer needs sound in order to use this headset.

They are about $50 on Amazon right now and I'd say they are worth it.

Mic is adjustable and they are supposed to have a noise cancellation feature, but I can still hear the outside world while wearing them. However, for me this is a plus because I get paranoid if I can't hear what's going on around me.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I use a Logitech G930.  If you don't mind refurbished, they are on sale for $80 on newegg.  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104446

They meet all of your requirements, and they are wireless.  The battery is not designed to be changed.  Instead, you can charge the headset with the included USB cord while using it.  The headphones are very lightweight and the range on them is very good.

I have had issues with mine and you'll want to compare the issues people have with other headsets you look at.  Right now, there is a slight amount of static that is only noticable when no audio is playing.  I find that odd for a digital wireless system.  I also had the plastic break on one side, but some good epoxy has held it together for over a year.  Don't try to use the headphones around microwaves or on a system that is connecting to the network with WiFi -- interference will ruin your wireless connection on the headphones.
