Doesnt sound like stealth, sounds like some instanced system to keep stealthers away...

I hope he implements the archer with camouflage as mentioned or a normal scout class

You could say this about just about any feature listed so far. But this game is trying to do MORE than games of the past. New ideas. We've grown so used to games that don't do anything different that when a game tries to be original, it's seem as delusional, impossible, or, excessive.

But for some of us it's seen as a breath of fresh air.

Breaths of fresh air don't always work out... keep this in mind when you get into Beta, and the system sucks.

    Ozek - DAOC
Niix - Other games that sucked

MJ is opening up a pandora's box with this idea. I hope he knows it. It may start out being a stealth like mechanics but it is a "place" not an ability. Players will want it expanded far beyond it's original design.

Following the comments section last night gave the impression that he is well aware of these considerations and has already begun to theorize on additional ways in which this veil could be utilized.

I hope so, because no archers and this stealth system is a no for me.

This topic was too hot to resist so I had to blog about it. Read it, or dont, but if you do, comment, or dont. Up to you ;)

Not a fan of this type of 'stealth' and trying to make harder for groups of stealthers to stay together makes it even less interesting. One of my favorite things to do as stealther was to protect healers from others rogues and having to fight more than 1 rogue was a nice challenge. There are other ways of keeping stealthers under control like low health, lower dps and more utility etc but this system is another reason for me to doubt CU is a game i want to play.

Q: When do you plan to implement the Veil walkers and Veil stalkers?
MJ: 1) This is just an idea. No decision has been made, not even close to that. 2) Even if we go with these classes, they would come in after archers.

So that's a major evening update wasted on something that highly likely won't be in the game at release. Please focus on the parts of the game that are certain to be in it and haven't been covered yet over the remaining days. I know there has been a lot of interest in stealthers, but this is almost deceptive because people who like this idea and don't follow the Kickstarter as closely as some of us do are going to be thinking Veilwalkers will be in at launch when they most probably won't be. (This is also true of The Depths which is a stretch goal for a still undisclosed dollar amount.)

not a waste of time at all, since it was one of the major request by many potential players : what happens with stealth ? he gave us a possible answer too, and since its a totally new concept, well it was a good idea to fill in tue community

can't even count how often i see this mentallity on this website.. so many make negative biases on things before they even try them and most of them time if you go into something with a very negative bias you will end up not liking it in big part because of that bias.. i notice many once they put that negative view behind them and revist they end up seeing things in a whole new light

Since Mark seems to want some ideas and/or feedback I'll share.

    Magic vs. Realistic

I think we need to decide if the stealth system is going to be magic based or some form of realistic stealth. If it's magic based then I can see it being easy to implement. If it's realistic, maybe a little more difficult. Here are some of my ideas for each:

    Magic

    • Mages who specialize in a combination of fighting and magic
    • Spells that cast a temporary invisibility on the mage
    • Spells that make the mage look like someone from the other realm
    • Spells that make the mage more difficult to see in the dark, light, or a given terrain (camouflage)
    • A dome of invisibility. This would allow the mage to not only hide themselves but a small group. Maybe several mages casting the same spell can increase the area which the dome covers
    • Why do mages always have to fit into the squishy-robe-wearing category, why can't magic be applied to stealth or melee combat?
    Realistic
    • Disguise: Why not blend in with everyone around you? There's really no way to "Hide in Plain Sight," so you blend in. You don't disappear, but you look like members of the opposing realms. There should be a way to discover you, such as spending too much time in one place or suspicious activity.
    • Sneaking: True to the word, sneaking. Using shadows and terrain to your advantage and moving quietly and low. More effective at night. This is probably more up the alley of the archer/scout, but maybe they should share certain aspects of stealth?
    • Sabotage: So you've worked your disguise and now you are rigging the enemies siege weaponry to fail.
The realistic ideas are more difficult to come up with, but that shouldn't be surprising. Have you ever seen someone pop out of nowhere? No, they hide around corners, in bushes, rooftops, etc. Maybe a combination of both is best.

    Assassin vs. Spy

This might be a completely moot question since archers/scouts will be doing the spying. But what do we want? Do we want the quintessential rogue who backstabs and hides in shadows? Or do we want someone who can be more subtle in their approach and instead of stabbing everyone operates differently? Eve Online has had players infiltrate organizations for the purpose of pasing on information. Maybe intrigue isn't meant to be in this game, but I think it could lend itself for some very interesting situations. Sure, the three realms may look different and it can't work like in Eve Online, but magic could come into play here as well. Wouldn't it add some incredible tension if everyone is wondering if there is a spy among us? It would definitely make the game have another level of depth to it. Taking territory would seem a little more dangerous if a spy was in the right place at the right time to throw a wrench in the system.

This is meant to ask questions and put ideas out there. If you don't agree or think something could be done differently please say so. If you disagree, then come up with a different idea instead of just shooting ideas down.

    Have a nice day.

MJ has said that there will be archer classes, they'll have camouflage abilities. which is like typical stealth, just need to be immobile.

Personally I dig the concept. Having played a stealther in virtually every MMO I have touched it is nice to see something new and useful rather than just new for the sake of being new.

I used to but they shortened my chain so I can only get about 5 feet from the PC now. I don't mind, they started giving me extra bread for my 1 meal of the day to compensate.
