Those Scarlet Blade ads are giving me an...

...idea.  Certain people object to them and certain people find them acceptable, so would it be both possible and beneficial to have a selection choice in a persons user account to direct them to a specific genre of advertising?

I would think this would be helpful, because the advertising is intended on reaching a target audience, and if that advertising is wasted on people who will never support a title, then why not advertise something that the person might be interested in.

Just a thought.

EDIT: Because some people can't get it into their head, I am not objecting to the ads, the conflict just made me think about targeting advertising and different ways of approaching it.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

Nice idea!  There have got to be more hardcore porn games out there than scarlet blade.  An X-rated preference setting would open up advertising to some even more explicit games!

    +1

Or give us the option to pay a one time fee to be able to remove the side/background ads that AdBlock can't manage to remove ;)

I assume that theOP's post is based on a recent thread asserting that the Scarlet Blade images are pornographic and/or distasteful.   I invite you to count the number of people who complained versus the number of people who do not care one way or the other.  Since the goal of the Scarlet Blade people is to target their advertising to a specific group of consumers, and we are those consumers, no one is going to change the way they advertise here.

Or take the short amount of time it takes to learn how to block all of them, without a program by using the file Microsoft gives to every owner of a Windows opperating system.

Most secruity flaws are there only because the person never took any time to learn how to use the OS they are using.

you might note that I was one of the people that didn't care one way or another. I do however know that targeted advertising is effective, and I'm simply thinking of ways to make the target a bit more specific.   It could be something simple like a choice in your profile as to what type of game interests you the most. This would keep advertising up and that is a preferred solution instead of people using adblockers.

I would be willing to bet that the arrangement between the advertiser and MMORPG specifies the number of times the ad has to be displayed.  MMORPG is not going to completely revamp the way they deal with advertisers because a few (percentagewise) of the people who frequent this site are offended by cartoons.  Setting up a pay-away the ads option would likely cost more than the advertising income lost because of it.

You already made that selection. This is an MMO site and Scarlet is an MMO. Selection done. There is much too much noise about some barbie doll ads. Grow up.

You could be correct, I don't know what sort of deal is made in regards to the advertising. However, that does not mean that changing things is not possible. It also doesn't mean that if the change things by improving them that they wouldn't make more money.

How much less could they charge for ads if the people coming here could opt out of seeing their ads ? An Ads space value comes from number of views by the targeted audience. Lower that number and you lower it's value...and before you say it, it's by hits not by you saying you wont come here anymore but obviously still do.

If they really want to do something like this it would have to be a premium membership to the site. Put your money where your mouth is. Help pay for the site or deal with how they're doing it.

I doubt Aeria Games would appreciate their ads being "selectively filtered" by site users.

It's perfectly obvious that the posts of those who react (in ANY way) to the ads are generating publicity and raising the profile of the game. The style of the ads is most probably aimed at provoking a reaction, regardless of whether it is positive or negative.

By making a post objecting to the game ads, you are most likely drawing-in far more customers to the game than you are discouraging by your condemnation of their advertising strategy.

Edit: Changed  "objecting" to just "reacting".

I installed addblock it was free,  no need to pay to clean the adds.  I figured if they were not going to do something, I would.

It works great just put the adds that bother you in the filter and bam. Problem solved for free.
