Which type of Ranger do you wish to see?

ZedTheRockZedTheRock Member UncommonPosts: 175

While its pretty obvious that PWI and Cryptic are planning on releasing 2 additional classes shortly after launch, one being the Scourge Warlock and the other being a type of Ranger.  On the official Forums there is a few posts claiming the Two-Bladed Ranger is the class being designed.  Normally I would not believe this to be the case because of 2 things.  First the data-mined evidence suggests the Archer Ranger is in development and secondly to exclude any type of Archer/Bow-using character is an extremely poor design for an MMO.  However there is a certain segment who belives the Two-Bladed Ranger is the class in development, there is more credence to this based on the postings of one of the unpaid-community moderators who says its the Two-Bladed ranger which will make the cut.

With that being said, for those who intend to play the game, which style of Ranger would you like to see get developed first?

Id like too see a two blade ranger more ,but its clear too see archer type class is whats the game really IS MISSING atm so...Archer would make a lot more sense than another melee.
  • neorandomneorandom Member Posts: 1,681

2 blade ranger is highly unlikely atm since trickster rogue is already using 2 daggers and is a rogue.

where as archer ranger would be the only bow user, and a ranged class where currently we only have great weapon fighter meelee and rogue meelee for fighters.  and control wizard for a ranged currently, although warlock will likely be a mix of meelee and curse dotting magics when hes done.

Not having an archer class will be very anti-D&D.

I never cared for the ranger class for some reason. I always found them annoying. Still it seems the archer one would be more fitting considering the classes already in the game.

Plus, what type of game would it be if we didn't have dozens of toons running around with some form of Legolas name? Might not even be able to quantify it as an mmo without it.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

The melee one would be more interesting, since every game from here to kingdom-come has a ranger like archer in it.

What will the elfs do, they are specialized in bow are they not? I think it will be a big mistake to not have this classic class in sooner than later. I play heavy classes so no skin off my back but some folks will be pissed when they get to character creator after downloading the whole game only to find such a staple missing.

I have a question about Neverwinter. I am very interested in the game, but all videos show a closed world. Does the map ever open up?

It open up a little bit, with some later city zones and forest areas. However, it is nothing like a true open world MMO. Neverwinter is primarily a dungeon crawler.

    Thank you

If nothing else, the fact that you even have to make the distinction shows the glaring weakness of Neverwinter.

You pick one class, get one combat style, and that's your character until the Primeval blows the city up again.

    I'm not that familiar with 4E, but that's not D&D I remember

Archer. Two-blade rangers are cool (though they really need a new name not being tacked on the ranger label) but there needs to be some range weapon users involved. I do hope they go adding a ranged rogue as well at some point, though not all sure of the 4e version stuff they have considering I honestly dislike it a lot (3.5 was a lot stronger, pathfinder helping to carry it on instead of (IMO) downgrading to 4E classes).

I'd rather see both (different trees).

One thing that's always bugged me about the ranger is how bow skills are generally implemented. Few games seem to get it right, and the rangers always seem to either turn into a machine gun (that uses arrows) or a bow class that's surprisingly weak. I'd prefer a system where you have limited (but powerful) bow attacks that take time to ready / aim, and then switch to melee once those are no longer viable.

This is the only Ranger I have any interest in seeing.

I've always been a fan of melee.  Range is not my thing.  But, I do understand and value the fact that many others do enjoy the archer class.  Because of this, I rather the Bow archer release first.  Even though, i'd love to play a duel wielding ranger ;)

The dual scimitar style ranger is more iconic to Forgotten Realms, Drizzt and all, but I'd much rather see the archery focused ranger first.  There's really a glut of melee dps classes already in the game, and a rogue drow would be fine for a stand-in for those who MUST play Drizzt.

Plus I hear rangers are pretty cheesed out in 4e with their bow abilities, so I'm on board for playing an OP ranger.

At this time, an archer based Ranger makes the most sense since there aren't any current ranged "dps" classes yet. I'm not sure how this new ruleset works with archers, but hopefully they are stronger than they were in NWN1 and 2.

Having a archer based ranger before a melee based ranger doesn't make anymore sense than weaing a tinfoil hat 24/7.

Actually if anything having a melee based ranger first makes a whole lot more sense since the Warlock has been confirmed to be in the first batch of classes to be released who is a ranged clases.  And there is already a ranged "dps" class, it's called the control wizard.  Yes it's a controler yet is still is up in the top of DPS charts.

I'd be happy if I never see a ranger class in Neverwitner.  If anything I would much rather see a beastmaster ranger than the other two.  I've hated Huntards with a passion ever since Vanilla WoW and the less use of Huntards the better.

The CW is only "dps" currently because other than the TR and GWF, that's all we have for dps classes at the moment. The CW can dps, true, but it falls short of the TR and GWF by quite a bit if the other classes are played correctly. The only way I see a melee based Ranger coming in next is if it's more akin to a melee-pet class that actually has a substantial pet around with him, not just a "companion", otherwise why would the game need another melee specialist when the TR is already in?

It doesn't really matter what weapon they use, Twin Strike is Ranged or Melee.

    A Power Ranger...

Sorry. Couldn't resist. Would be awesome though.

Also, I'd rather see bards before rangers.
