What is out there for us PVP lovers?

RaventreeRaventree Member Posts: 456

I currently play Rift and LOVE IT, except for the fact that there is no real end game PVP.  You can only do warfronts and Conquest for so long before you want to go wreak some havoc on the open world.  Unfortunately, Rift just doesn't have much ganking and enemy harassing going on, so I am looking around for what can scratch the PVP itch.  Here are some of the games I have tried PVPing in.

Wow - Good PVP, lots of ganking, arenas, but horrible dated graphics and just burned out on it.

Rift- Awesome mechanics, flexible classes, everything is right except.... no end game PVP, really.

AoC - People like the PVP but it feels clunky and incomplete.  Animation locking and tacked on, half baked PVP.

Eve - THE hardcore PVP game, except for it taking 2 years of grinding 8 hours a day to get going.

Dust 514 - Anyone wanna give me a free PS3?

Planetside 2 - Cool PVP, but feels pointless because of a lack of a larger context.  Maybe I am missing something.

Aion - PVP seemed cool, but it took forever to get to it and the grind sounds endless.

GW2 - Tried it and wondered what the point was.  If you can hop into it and you don't have to grind for gear or levels or... anything, then what is your goal?

Darkfall UW:  Interesting concept, but sounds like a buggy incomplete mess.

So, any ideas for a good PVP MMO?  If a guy doesn't want to spend two years getting going in EVE, what is the next best option?  Nothing has been able to scratch the PVP itch just right since DAoC.

Currently playing:
Rift
Played:
SWToR, Aion,EQ, Dark Age of Camelot
World of Warcraft, AoC

I'll be watcing tihs thread for some recommendations as well. I'm currently trying out D:UW for the first time and can't past the clunkiness and bad optimization.

My best PvP days were, *drumroll*, in WoW Vanilla & BC. Open world pvp, arena and battlegrounds filled my itch. Now I feel everything is dumbed down and frankly, I'm burnt out already.

People say Age of Wushu is good.. but again, I can't get past the clunkiness of the game.

GW2 has a good pvp if you like battlegrounds. Unfortunately no open world pvp which is a no for me. Then, Aion has a very fun endgame pvp and open world pvp. Basically this game is all about the pvp. They will add many pvp options in the 4.0 update so watch for that.

Hmm what else? Tera has open world pvp but some people say that end game pvp is not that good. Can't confirm that since I am not in the endgame yet. Age of Wushu is all about the pvp with some very interesting mechanics but the combat system takes the fun out of it. You have to try it yourself.

Have u tried TERA? though tera is gear based.... also it is kinda impossible for someone to kill a guy 2 levels higher than him.. but its a true action combat so thats what it makes it a good pvp game

2 years to get going in EVE? really? I  know someone who's pvping 6 months in as well as me and I have 7 going on 8 years ahead of that person. For a PVPer you sure do think skills trump experiences...

I also played Rift for a long time and resub now and again because it is a great game. It has good open world PvP and just like in WoW I was always looking over my shoulder.

Just for a bit of info, In GW2 sPvP you don't need to grind for gear, that is true. But try playing in WvWvW with newbie gear. GW2 does have gear progression and the legendary sets are hard to attain.

    You mentioned the best 2

    EVE and PS2

From what i hear Age of Wushu is also worth bothering with.

Sorry, but rift, wow etc.. are just PVE games with lip service PVP.

IMO, WoW still has better PvP than anything else released in the past year.

I've tried too many games and always find myself going back to WoW (no pun intended) over and over.

Now I don't bother...I just stick with WoW.

I would say Age of Wushu.  Get into a decent guild and you will be pvp'ing right off the bat. Or you can be a lone ganker and take your chances with their criminal and bounty system. Or do both.

Currently playing DF:UW, got all the right features for challenging pvp and good GvG content. Loving it. Also in alpha testing of Gloria Victis. The devs are aiming for a mmorpg with Mount&Blade combat machanics. How cool is that?! :D

    League, Starcraft, that's it.

A couple of days in EVE can get you started in PVP really. Just find a lo-sec pvp corporation and they will have you tackling ships for them. Sure you may not be the bad ass in the shiny battlecruiser, but you are just as essential as they are for taking people out. A couple of weeks later and you could be doing some decent frigate battles, and after a couple of months you will be on par with the rest of the players who specialize in frigate combat.

It is all just a matter of focusing your skill training. And it does not take 8 hours a day of grinding anything. Frigates are cheap and can be supplied by a halfway decent PVP corp to you for free.

Runes of magic, you can pk anyone anywhere anytime if you play in pvp server. there is no safe zone in this game and  you can loot corpse for items(even bound items) if it is not sealed to the player. dated graphics but what do pvpers need graphics for right? as long as you people can gank anyone anywhere.

I always played multiple games at the same time. Rift is a solid game, but its more for the mainstream gamers. I'm not going to discuss wow since its, well, hyper mainstream. Tera pushed the mainstream concept of mmo's a bit further with a tad more skill-based action. And you have Aion, another mainstream mmo, less skill-based allthough pvp is more the general focus.

However, we have Age of Wulin coming up for the European players. Different publisher then Age of Wulin. Which seems to go through the trouble of actually trying to translate.

I'd suggest either Bloodline Champions or Chivalry Medieval Warfare.

Ofcourse if you want the sandbox experience, EVE is simply the game to play. And don't complain about time-based skills. It is merely a filler if you're anything but decent. Just go with one of the above if you're the average hedonist.

Darkfall Unholy Wars - I think it was made for people like you.

It's not F2P though, so you'd better look at some YouTube videos and read about it.

Wushu, if you're a pvpr and not playing AoW, you're doing yourself a disservice.

eve is boring because you cant do anything big ALONE anymore. Yes you can find some corp and be the tackler that is insanely boring and then maybe after a couple of months get a bigger ship and just go around shooting at what everyone else is shooting but i dont see much interest in that.

solo pvp has died down these days and it is mostly groups(not implying it doesnt exist but it isnt big).

You might want to try swtor, it is like most mainstream mmos mechanics wise and it has some pvp and a little open world pvp. If you havent played it you might want to try it, it should definitely let you kill some time until you can decide

Can someone explain to me what Panzar is? I may be blind but I don't see any overview on their website what the game actually IS.

Is it an MMORPG? A MOBA? A loby based PVP game? ... whatever?
