Doable, I'm sure it is, but I assume it's less fun and way harder. I suppose you could ghost the zerg and cherry pick like lions hunting zebra.

I just don't see that as solo'ing. That is like saying someone can complete a raid because the game allows someone the ability to follow a raid into a dungeon.

To solo by feeding off the scraps of player zergs or groups isn't so much solo'ing as being someone who needs to wear a helmet to cross the street.

I'm guessing you never saw The Ghost and the Darkness. I've seen  solo rogues tear apart more than one group in PvP. It depends on a lot of things we don't know yet but sometimes there's a feeding frenzy in the shark tank.

A movie about 500lb lions tearing apart humans in villages?

Totally the same as mmo rvr!

    You stay sassy!

As long as there lands are designed similar to daoc - large open spaces with multiple paths that can be taken to most destination (and by paths I mean 2-3 x clipping range field, no War style 10 feet wide paths) Solo will be fine. Sure it's harder than other play styles, since not only do you get killed (on average 50% of the time) by other solo players, but you also get killed by zergs, groups and small groups.

Still, I plan to solo (sometimes, why not?) in the game and I don't see any problems with it. Again, unless the design of the lands is as horrible as most of War's "lakes" soloing will be alive and well.

I put here the answer i wrote in your previous thread that was deleted^^

Alright, here are a few pieces of info you might be interested to get :

First, CU will be a niche game, and we got MJ's word than there will be no feature added only to get more players. Everything will be made in order to be fun to the players loving this kind of MMO. That is btw why he is using KS and not some publisher.

Second, one of the thing we want this game to have is a community. For that, the foundational principles 9 and 10 explain MJ will make sure there will be socialisation and pride.

Having that community will make grouping a lot easier, and a lot faster. You'll get to make friends, that'll get you in the group, and if the community is great even somebody you don't know will help you.
(wrote that part because on your first post you said you didn't want to wait hours to get a group^^)

Third, MJ said he was a player that loved soloing, and than we didn't need to worry about soloing becoming impossible.

So i think you'll have a good time as a solo, but you'll miss a part of the game. Although unless you really are geared to solo and can't help a group (which should be quite hard to achieve), i think both way will be available to you at all time, so you only miss a part that you wouldn't like^^

Being a RvR game anyway, you wouldn't be able to open all content to solo players, because the content is mostly created by the other players and the fights they give to you, and it would be lame to have a solo being able to take down a zerg.

MMOs are designed to be played with others, not by yourself.  That being said, I think you can have some fun playing solo but this game is pure RvR and you can't do that by yourself technically.  Unless, of course, you roam around solo trying to find other solo people to 1v1 which would be hard if you are seen.  So stealth class will prolly be best for you in this game and I'd imagine you could drum up some fun that way.  Anything else will require some help from others.  Even crafting will require help to get you to areas where the resources are, like "the Depths" recently talked about by MJ.

My advice is try making friends in a game like CU if/when it actually goes live.  The most fun I have in MMOs is meeting new people and making new connections that have the possibility of turning into long lasting MMO friendships.  I did it in WoW.  I did it in SWTOR.  I plan to do it in CU.

I honestly feel if the community in CU is anything like DaoC or early WOW, you will enjoy making new friends and going on many adventures together with them!

Nothing wrong with the ability to play solo.

Stealthers will absolutely be able to play solo, if they're designed correctly.

Casters will likely be solo capable, especially if you're fighting in the big battle thats happening. If its anything like DAoC you'll still gain some gold/exp from anything that dies that you'd hit with a spell.

If you are in a big battle then you are ALREADY NOT SOLOING.

If your foe was distracted by something else in the environment or another fight with another player and you've jump them you are ALREADY NOT SOLOING.

You do realise that someone or something was helping you/indirectly putting the fight in your favour right? lol

    Well said, Zifty.  :)

I tend to solo a lot in games, myself, so I am very reassured by knowing that MJ likes to solo and won't let it become impossible, which he has said repeatedly.

Now, just to be clear, I don't solo because I would prefer to play a game by myself.  I solo because I am a single mom and subject to sudden ninja afks for family stuff - and I am too ethical a player to let my lack of attention cause other people to wipe - or even just to drag me around like so much dead weight.

Having said that, i have been gaming for over a decade now, and have met several very close friends through gaming.  I enjoy the community on MMOs and love to help people out - even if it's just with an answer to a question.  I like to learn things from other players.  And I am excited to death that someone is getting serious about making a game that seems focused on "realm pride."  To me, banding together with other people  to accomplish something, even if it's only with pixels, is the really cool part.  Even if I am off on the side helping out in a small way that night because I have a kid with the throw up bug upstairs and I will have to run up and hold her hair out of her face again soon.

The fact that this game is an MMO and not a single-player is important to me.

I think a lot of solo players have similar good reasons for solo play , like the gentleman above who said he did IT all day and didn't want to get stuck on TS on his relaxation time.  It doesn't mean they are antisocial, or that they don't want to contribute - it just means they prefer - or even need -  to contribute on their own terms.

(See you all in the CU equivalent of Emain, hehe.)

i imagine there will be classes that can act autonomous, usually rogue-type classes and hybrids.

but there wont be any hubrids in this game.. crafters probably too, just not in RvR areas.

I think aside from crafting though you wont have much to do... i mean this is a MMOPVP focused game.  I don't see anyone doing well trying to gank 1 v 2+ which will be a majority of the content. Just saying.

    It's a rvr mmo.
You know based around large group pvp requiring organisation and group strategy

Why would any soloers even look at such a game.

Being solo means you will due more and miss most of the fun / entire point of the game.
