So I tried the game for about 30 minutes, and before I decide whether or not I will invest considerable time into this game, I have a few questions which hopefully some of the more experienced players can answer.

- Gold farmers. The first thing I saw when I logged into the game, was 3+ gold selling bots spamming their sites, and more of them in the world chat and beginner town. Is gold farming something that gets in the way of regular players? Is there any competition over resource locations, or  monster spawns being affected etc, due to gold farmers taking everything from the good spots?

- Does combat get better later on? I tried fighting some animals, but the game didn't let me move my character while I was performing a punch/kick.

- What would be the main features or activities that players can do on a daily basis that make the game stand out, and enjoyable? Or what are the features that give it longevity.

- Crafting. Is it meaningful and necessary, or does all the good stuff come from other sources? Does it have a deep learning curve, experimentation, and randomness factor attached to it, or does it have tutorials every step of the way and a very linear buildup?

1). Bound v. Unbound Liang.  You are limited to something like 350 unbound Liang.  Bound Liang is tradeable.  Since I don't buy gold I don't know what their influence on the market may be.

2).  Some skills allow movement while attacking.  It all depends on the skill.  I know I was throwing blades and running constantly and my scholars whirlwind allowed me some movement.  Essentially after you unlock your three schools (or another schools) your actual new skills are done.  Everything from then on is levelling your skills through cultivation a/practice.

3).  Spy missions, school attacks, script stealing, daily life skill grinds (since these are limited to a per day increase), instances, missions, caravans, guard duties, crafting, ganking, and the opposite of almost every one of those type missions (I.e.  catching spies, defending schools, etc)

4).   Bags are consumables so there will always be a need.  Best gear is crafter made.  In fact, find good gear from an NPC (you can't after your n00b stuff).  Food is a requirement in the game and is also made by players only.  Almost all of the crafts though require a varying degree of need from other crafts as well.  Cooks don't need much interaction, whereas tailors need friends in all crafts.

Finally, it's not my job to convince you.  You either like the game, or you don't.  It's free so the only investment on your part is time.

    - Yep theres gold spam, however it really isnt that much, in addition the chat interface is really nice since you can just right click the name and hit blacklist.

As far as them affecting quests go, personally i havent seen how that would be possible, the main quest line is your story and i've yet to see anything affect it.

    - Lol yes you can't move when fighting....one of the major fails of this game (atleast as shaolin which ive played). However i believe there's a school which can move whilst fighting (not sure which though).

    - YES very veryyyyyyy necessary, in fact the best gear is from crafting i believe, quest rewards only get you so far, and as for instances well ive only seen skill scrolls drop from there :/.

What makes it worse is that you are FORCED into crafting, otherwise if you wish to buy from players you must use a different currency which uses RMT........

I give this game a year at best if they keep this stupid dual currency system ruins the game, its already a buy 2 win i personally wouldnt bother with it.

We don't play the same game I think... Yes most attacks locks you on site for a certain time but mobility is one of the key elment in there...

The only thing I can blame in Wushu is the dumb PvE. total crap in lower levels and almost purely stat/gear check in the higher tier.

Everything else is pure old school feelings + great fast tab-target PvP gameplay.

The crafting part can get really hard and boring if you try to achieve something alone. It's ment for group work.

convince? and what we will get from it?

@Grimmrock ya, poor shaolin students...  http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNDQ2NDg3Mjgw.html

@Vindicar well maybe its nothing awesome I still like instances, especially higher lvl ones, and on harder modes they are extended, 5th instance will be battlefield with 2 camps and bosses

I totally agree Instances and their design are quite nice ! some events are even pretty cool.

But what I dislike in wushu's PvE is the stupid AI. It's so easy to kit, reset, glitch, (...) mobs and boss that ... in the end... the only realy challenges in instances are Assasins :p

What makes you think you should get anything for convincing me? Another way i could have made this thread is:

"WTF is this shit combat? Gold farmers are all over the place, this shit sux".

How would that help you, me, or any potential reader? Am I supposed to only post whiny doom threads, or gtfo?

My first impressions aren't all that good, that's why I'm asking people to elaborate on some of the details. I'm sick of themepark clones, so I'm willing to turn a blind eye on certain things in this case.

It's funny, I had a similar response to the post.

"What's in it for me" huh? How about building a positive community that supports the game instead of condemming it from 1st impressions thus contributing to it's lifespan so you get to play a more successful game longer instead of logging in in 3 Mo to  abandoned servers as is the case with SOOOOOO many releases in the past few years.

So I won't answer about crafting since I havn't gotten the chance to really dive into it.  However, with gold spammers it's basically either blacklisting(blocking) them or leaving the channel they spam on which seems to usually be in the world or anonymous channels.  If you join a guild, those other channels become obsolete mostly anyways. Those are easy fixes.

As far as competition goes with resources, I kind of doubt it considering how big the game world is.

Combat is going to be based on factors such as your school, your actual personal skill level with a paper-rock-scissors type combat in general, your character's inner level, flying skills, meridians, gear, and server latency.  The server latency can be fixed by Snail (hopefully), but the other stuff is on you.

For actvitites, the "N" key is your friend.  It will give you information on the various instances to run, spying, kidnapping, escorts, and where you need to go and who to talk to for all of these things, etc.  Think of it as a PDA sent back to feudal China by a smart Chinese scientist from the future.

Keep in mind that isn't me trying to convince you, it's more like giving you some basic answers to some of your questions to the best of my ability.

I think it's really just the tone that was used. Naming a thread something like "Convince me." comes off as arrogant/childish, as if it's someone's job to do your homework for you. It also just makes you sound like a pr*ck, in my opinion. Naming it something like, "Is this game for me?" would have likely met with less snarky remarks.

Regardless, there has already been some good information added, and most of his questions have been addressed, at least to an extent, so I'd say the community is quite good, overall. I actually enjoy threads like this because you can normally learn a thing or two that you might not have otherwise known.

This is exactly why I am reading this thread. My 1st impression of AoW is not good. But I've seen enough people say it gets better. Enough to at least keep an eye on this game to see where it goes. I have played a couple game before where pushing through a negative early experience lead to a very rewarding experience later on. I won't deny that possiblity here, but I, at least want to know if that rewarding experience is for me or not. For most games, the early experience justifes the bad rap.

    Freedom of Movement in Combat:
Instead of a long drawn out explanation, have a look at this
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FW1scHmANSI

    Goldfarmer Spam:
On your"combine" chat window, go into settings. Only enable school, guild, team, raid and school war chat. No more goldseller spam.

    Longevity:
This depends on what kind of game you personally prefer. In most other games now, you have no reason whatsoever to interact with other players. AOW is all player driven. If you enjoy games that have a steep learning curve and where the other players are "the entertainment", this might just be your new favorite game.

    Crafting:
Crafting professions are interdependent. As you level your craft, your success rate increases of making higher quality items, as well as how many items you can craft/gather per day. The best gear and weapons, as well as inventory bags are all player crafted.  Also, it is necessary for your character to eat food (otherwise your hp will drop), and it can only be crafted by players.

    @Grimmrock
No, you are not forced into crafting. There are plenty of other ways to earn unbound silver: Bounty hunting, kidnapping, stealing scripts and selling them to other players, playing the market, selling looted items from dungeons/instances, selling xp potions from spy quests, selling mined/gathered items, etc.
