this game have in-game MICs support to voice with team-mates?

if this new mmorpg doesnt have in-game mic support, im not playing then.   typing to strangers u meet in mmorpg is too ancient these days.  they need to get with the times, and introduce ingame-mics.

and nooo, i dont want to join a crappy clan and go on ventrillo/mumble and voice with the same boring 30 ppl every single day. i want to voice with new ppl in the game.

socialising is suppose to be a big part of mmorpg, and thats why many are failing these days. u need to make it more socialable.

so any news if this mmorpg has in-game mics  available?

    Xbox live would suggest otherwise.

It may not be an MMO - but no-one uses it in Starcraft II either.

The exclusivity and utility of the TS and Vents of this world mean in-game voice represents extra effort for little or no benefit for a developer.

The one thing it is truly useful for is group PUGs (not Raids...) - either dungeon or PvP minigames.

It looks like ESO won't have minigames, so once again - limited utility.

I think some developers are afraid to put it in a game due to:

    • Potential costs
    • Alienating the existing playerbase of MMO players
On the first point, I'm not sure of the cost it would require for an MMO to either make a system themselves, buyout a company that does it, or hire a company.  Though on the last, if for some odd reason the voice system becomes the norm for the game, it will doom itself to becoming a niche title.  As games such as WoW and even Champions Online have shown us, people simply don't use it and don't want to use it.  They have other programs they could use if they suddenly have a need, but most would rather be listening to music or simply typing.  There is also a large amount of people who just want to sit and relax, who don't want to talk while playing game, or have social anxiety (or people might recognize their voice).

Not to mention, if it somehow managed to take over text, we will have all sorts of profanity coming from all kinds of public channels and there would only have to be a few people per channel else there will be massive shouting and people talking over each other (you think Call of Duty or Battlefied is bad?  Imagine League of Legends that had public voice channels for random team mates).  Now, I'm sure you're just referring to specific things that you want it for (as the thread title suggests), but it's such a niche thing to have a game, especially when other sources are available, that it actually seems kind've silly for a developer to implement it.  I know WoW hasn't touched theirs and have admitted to it being a bad idea in hindsight.

We will also have people bullying others to get on voice chat since it's "amply available", and a great amount of people don't even have mics even in this day and age simply because they don't need or want them for their own reasons.  My girlfriend already said she won't play in another game that has in game voice chat, as too many people have asked her to "prove she's a girl" in game that it gets annoying.  Nothing like that has happened in years to her as there are now a lot of female gamers in the market, but it's still something to be wary of for people who are just not comfortable with voice chatting for whatever reasons they have.
Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing).  German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century.  Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now).  I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things).  In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while.  If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.

Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this.  If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own.  Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis.  Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

I don't think it'll have in game mic support, I could be wrong in which case it'll probably be some cheap tacky awful solution (like pretty much every in game VoIP solution).

I don't think that would be a bad thing...not after having played MMOs for over a decade.  It would be abused, as it is in almost every game that has it.

Third party VoIP solutions do it better, at no cost to the game company.

Considering Ventrilo is the standard evryone who wants to use voice uses, that it works very well and doesn't impact game performance in any meaningful way, I don't really see the point of them wasting time re-inventing the wheel.

I personally would love in-game mics if done properly. Problem is, as was stated above, it probably not worth the developers time. Also, take into account the amount of trolls and other abusers who would completely ruin this new way of establishing immersion, and you start to see why its an idea that hasn't really gone anywhere.

I would love to see in game MICS with spatial voice amplification. You get closer to people there voice gets louder and you move away it gets lower until only a very low drone of mumbling is heard. As for privacy, you can create your own voice channel or somethign along those lines.

A very easy cop-out to completely reinventing the wheel would be to include Ventrilo access built into the game. Instead of tabbing out to Connect/Disconnect or any other setting just write it into the game. Perhaps it would even be lucrative for the developer to partner up with Ventrilo as a dual partnership PR extravaganza.

Last game I saw to actively try incorporating 3rd party programs into the actually game program was The Matrix Online with their media player where you could play any playlist of music you wanted while never having to tab out of the game.

I'd be all for this type of incorporation of 3rd party programs into the game's main code

in game voice will be very handy for AVA

my planetside 2 guild runs two platoons (well sometimes 3), 1 in guild, the other public.

the in game voice is vital for the public platoon so that people not in guild can follow orders.

Its also handy as they have a channel for platoon leaders across faction to coordinate

It depends on the quality of the ingame voice support though.

Planetside 2's voice quality was quite good and was pretty clear (kudos to them).

Defiance's voice quality is absolutely woeful - I turn them off if someone has it on. I hear less than 10% of what they are saying because the quality was so bad.

Alot of games have it, but noone rarely uses it.  I think the last time I used ingame voice was back in Lotro about 5 years ago.  i always have it turned on, but I think I'm the only one.

If something as easily replaceable as ingame voice support is a redline, then you probably aren't going to like any MMO that you didn't develop yourself.

In Defiance, my guild of friends from other games is running a public Mumble server.  It makes things alot more fun.  If there's one and only one thing I liked about DCUO, was how they tried to make the console versions voice work.  If you were nearby people you could hear them talk :) (or was that some other game, I remember it was at a friend's house lol)

Edit: 97 people online right now :)

to be fair its not as important in defiance - as all content can be done in guild.

the only way you could be all in guild in PS2 is if your guild had 666+ players and you all managed to travel to the same continent before anybody else on your faction (e.g. imposible)

     Good point.

In fact most of the content can even be soloed (besides co-op missions of course) - since there is dynamic difficulty adjustments depending on group size for things such as arkfalls.
