just wondering, are MMO player numbers still on the rise?

With countless titles coming up, and who knows what's next for 2015-2018, the market is probably not sustainable.

I wouldn't LIKE to see any game shutdown, especially if they still have an active playerbase. I know exactly what it's like to have a MMO you play shut down on you, it sucks.

Now, if it's to be shutdown, remade and redistributed, that is different entirely. If that was the case, then I'd love to see WAR closed down, fixed up, and redistributed as a B2P or F2P title.

Age of Fetish...I mean...Age of Wushu should get shut down. Anything to get their damn ads off this site. :)

I don't get my jollies off seeing any game shut down for reasons others have mentioned but I will say I'm amazed Warhammer Online is still chugging along. I would have thought that would have been shut down by now.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Not that i really want any game to shut down.. but out of that list secret blade.. any game that lets you strip down children like characters to their underwear needs to be closed down..

Why on earth would i want that one of these should be shut down?

If others wanne play them i realy dont care its there money and time not mine.

Its bad asking which ones should be shut down, im first and formost a game fan so shutting down games becouse i dont like them is realy bad way of thinking.

Should we remove everything we don't like in life, i ask you?

Well sir,you might actually care about OTHER people?

It is like saying..."Oh well my neighbour's house is getting robbed, but it doesn't concern me,so i don't care".

Imagine some people might be wasting their money and time on a game that might very well shut down  before they realize the whole game.

TIME is MUCH more valuable than money, any time you invest that might be lost before you are ready, can feel like a huge let down.

I can use an example >>>TAbula Rasa. How many people invested time expecting to playout the game, then realize their time spent was wasted.

How many people followed and read every article on Dark N Light ,for maybe a year or more,to finally realize NO GAME,they wasted al lthat time following that game.

There are also many people who build  Guild webpages and coordinate theri guilds structure and run everyday events.Imagine they put in al lthat effort and the game folds?

    wow... simply wow.

"Allowing" someone else to play (and enjoy) a game you do not like equates to watching a neighbor get robbed. I cannot even begin to educate you on the many, many fallacies here.

You think you are the "Mother" to every gamer out there? You have shouldered the responsibility to save everyone who has different tastes than you from their folly. Oh joy...

What other aspects of life do you wish to save everyone else from, since you seem to know what is best for everyone? If someone wants to pay $200 for a pair of sneakers, do you run up and slap their hand for their folly? Maybe mention the many starving children in China? (Are there massive amounts of starving children in China?)

I show I "care" about other people by letting them enjoy what they want, spend their money how they desire, and not dictate to them what is "best for them."

If someone is enjoying a game, they decide if it is worth it or not, not you. Please, get a grip.

...Edit on second thought.. lol I'm very confused by his reply now, I can't tell what he's actually saying.

For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson

Why the frak would any gamer be so riddiculously stupid and wanting to shut down any MMO ?

The good old saying that applies here is "The more, the merrier". Thats especially true in a market like MMOs. Because more concurrence means better conditions for any gamer, even if you dont play that game.

I dont really like that Vanguard turned f2p, which is another consequence out of this, but the subscription is actually getting cheaper, not more expensive. That wouldnt happen if there wouldnt be so much concurrence.

And I dont mind games like WoW. People who play WoW stay away from other games. From all I hear about WoW, that saves me from a ton of immature kiddos in my own game. So whats the issue ?

Just for the record, GW2 didnt do anything. They just made GW1 more like a MMO, and supported the current fashion of people opposing the Trinity, with the consequence that GW2 combat is inferior to GW1 combat.

You guys are taking this thread to seriously.  It's just a fun ponderance (not a real word) to see who dislikes an mmo.  No one here has the power to shut anything down.  We're not killing fluffy, Vegans, calm down.

    I play Vanguard.

Okay, thats basically already all that needs to be said, but for people who dont get it:

There is no successor to Vanguard available, not even at the most distant horizont. Nobody wants to do a classic high quality MMO anymore. No other MMO in existence makes me want to actually play it. Many of these are just simplistic crap games that offer no challenge.

If Vanguard shuts down, I stop playing. Thats all.

    Wow...what a thread.

Obvious answer isn't even voted on. Even though it plasters that background of this site and is a genuine POS game. Yet we have 10 pages talking about any other game...at all.

Well...the bimbos of the MMO world are even staring at you in disbelief

Variety is the spice of life as the saying goes, therefore, more the better so none need to be shut down as there is always a game that caters to everyones tastes.

A better poll/thread would be which new MMO would you like to be see made.

Oh, that's been done to death too. Never mind, i'm off to cook.

    I dont get your logic.

If TOS shuts down, that means TOR is no more. Thats all.

It doesnt mean that magically faries from an alternative universe appear and will give you a new Star Wars game, skipping over the at least 4 years that it requires to create any new game, and more like 6 or 7 years for a MMO.

If there would be a new Star Wars MMO underway, we will know about it. Of that you can be sure. Previously Lucas Arts and now Disney would rub it into our faces.

Its a SOE title. SOE never shuts down their MMOs unless they have a real population problem or they have to pay license for it.

New MMOs are always unbalanced at first, though. As long as theres active developers, rebalancing is always an option.

I want people to stop reading, writing, talking, hearing about Lindsay Lohan, because its really getting on my nerves and there is just nothing to say in the first place; she doesnt really do good movies anymore. If she does, go ahead and communicate about her, but until then please the freaking frak just shut up and talk about something, anything, actually relevant.

But this thread ? Just dont read it if you dont like it.

Its really funny how most poster here say that but the actual vote only gives 33% to this option.

    Very well said.

Blizzard is another sad story of a developer who did good things (even if I myself didnt enjoyed their titles that much) and then fell into the wrong hands (i.e. the people who only care about profit).

You need a "None" option. While I only play GW2 and Defiance, I hate to see any game shutting down that has people playing it and enjoying it.

    Oderint, dum metuant.

I would vote for camelot Unchained. it would be simply funny to see all the crying by the "pvp crowd".

For scientific reasons, I would like to see what would happen, were WoW shut down. Would be interesting to see what those people would do and where they would possibly migrate, if anywhere at all. But then we'd need to follow everyone magically and interview them and so on, so, this wouldn't work.

But from my perspective as a gamer? Well, Scarlet Blade could go, if any would have to, that is.

We?re all dead, just say it.

  • statrickstatrick Member UncommonPosts: 13

why would you want a game to shutdown??? if you dont like something just don't involve yourself with it.

Also compitition is a good thing it forces the games you do like to try and do better.

I never want to see a game shut down. Period.

There are bad games, but even bad games are made by real people and those people have lives and lose their livelihood when these games go under.

That said, I want Scarlet Blade gone. They defeated my adblocker.
