I have guides on my youtube page (youtube.com/wenersz) but people need to be open-minded with the game. there's so much to do in Age of Wushu, but if it's not in Themepark MMO quest-style, people just give up.

When I read typical mmorpgs, what I translate it as is "games that are more fun than AoW".  Honestly, I'm not scared away by the game being different, I'm scared away by it not even attempting to draw me in early on.  Like I and others have said many times, a lot of players don't want to go through what amounts to a lengthy tutorial to get to the "good part".  If that's what you mean by spoiled, sure.  I can list several games that were more fun in the first 20 minutes than AoW was in the first few hours.  Call me impatient I guess, but it also had a lot to do with the Chinese theme (just not a fan of it, nothing against it) and the stiff, awkward cutscenes.

well there it is, impatience :p this game is super complex, the tutorials are needed. Other games have short tutorials then you quest til end game. AoW isn't like that. The Chinese reason is kind of dumb tbh, but to each his own. I've played games that lead me through with all quests. AoW is a different game for me, and I enjoy it. I was lost at first and didn't know what to do and I didn't enjoy it. But I started learning what I could do in the game. Most people won't get to the point of learning what they can do in the game that it'll just bore them, and I get that. This game isn't for everyone. But for anyone interested it's free to play, nothing to lose to try it out. I make guides to make this game easier for people because I think it's a fun game if you really give it a shot.

You guys talk about this game as though it's super complex. I didn't get that impression. Anarchy Online was an example of a super complex game. You needed spread sheets and 2-3 days of planning just to equip a single new item. In some cases, to equip one item ,it required you to almost completely tear down your entire character build, re build him with buffing specific stats required by that new gear but aren't optimal for performance, then after it's equipped you have to completely undo that build and restore it the way it was. And Old School perk resets.....Logging in once every 2 hrs to reset one perk point at a time. All the while your character was unplayable. do to improper gear/stat allocations. Heh. I don't think this game has that level of complexity. But I did see super complex cash shop funneling.

Thanks for the review Lisa. I wasn't much interested in this title to start with, gonna give it a wide berth now.

Downloaded, installed, started, instant goldseller spam before I even can move. Logged off. Will try it in the "off hours", if it stays that bad I won't even bother playing.

Well said. AOW is not for close minded people.

There's nothing so special about Age Of Wushu to be "closed minded" about.  The only thing compelling about the game is the scissor paper rock approach to PVP, which all mmorpgs should take a look at.

The presentation is either extremely dated or amateurish.

If somebody ELSE took the concepts and did it more professionally and cleaner perhaps I would have been more receptive, or maybe if it had released 5-6 years ago certain things would be understandable.

Age of Wushu feels like a Startec Flip Phone knock off in a Touch Screen Smartphone world.

    /uninstall

Played the game back in beta for a couple of days and it just feels too cheap and out dated.

Games like AoW are why I dont get excited about new MMOs anymore....All we have heard for months is how great this game was going to be, what a great sandbox experience it was, blah blah blah....Then you play it find it is basically crap that a handful of people find fun and uninstall.....until someone actually comes up with a well made game, Im not listening to the hype.
  • fonoifonoi Member UncommonPosts: 56
This game is a breath of fresh air, it is the best martial arts MMO by far. Playing for 30 minutes doesn't even get you into the "real" game, so all you I uninstalled after wtf 3 seconds people are doing yourselves a disservice.

I have very little time to play, yet feel I can log in and accomplish something, whether it be gathering, questing or an instance. Not that is all I can do in an hour but you should see the truth.

Do not rag on the game because you have a problem with the asain theme. The game is as western as eve online other than the setting.

Loving the game since i first started playing back then on CB1, a game unlike any other ive ever played, where player choices and interaction do matter, a game were i can do what i please and where i dont need to quest or grind mobs or anything to be strong, just find my own way.

Lots of people here making sweeping judgments based on very limited experience. Has it become cool now to write stuff like "installed, logged in, logged out, uninstalled"? Is that considered an actual opinion nowadays or what?

AoW has some weak points, and sadly most of them are crowded together during the first few hours, which apparently turns people away from the game. In short, the bad stuff amounts to:

    * A boring tutorial that doesn't make the game justice - basically autorun fedex quests which is about as far as the actual game as you can get. This is stupid because people expect "sandbox" and get quest runs.

    * Poor char customization

    * Clunky combat when fighting mobs as a noob - this is because you are a noob, not because combat is clunky in AoW. When you advance your char, your own skill, and get your flying scripts, it's a whole different story.

    * Awkward translations and UI - it's better now but still not good enough

    * Gold spammers - this is a major issue and I'm very disappointed that Snail hasn't made anything about it. It will potentially destroy this game if not dealt with.

    However, the good news are:

    * Once you're finished with the tutorial the game opens up and you're free to do whatever you want.

    * Freeform skill and leveling system - you can learn every skill in game and you progress through passive "cultivation", not by grinding stuff.

    * There are lots of unique features, mostly revolving around PvP in some way: kidnapping, spying, patrolling, script stealing, cart robbing/escorting, school wars, and so on.

    * An alignment system and a bounty hunting system plus jail and execution for rampant PKs.

    * A player driven economy (player crafted gear is the only good gear, player made food and drink, interlocking professions, etc).

    * A random encounter system where your actions influence the surrounding NPCs, unlocking quests and rewards based on their perception of you (this is something I haven't even tried yet).

    * A very well crafted world where the cities are full of NPCs going about their business in the banks, shops, markets, gambling houses, brothels and so on, where offline players do stuff like begging, juggling, peddling, guard duty, even prostitution... The graphics are simple but the art style and level design is extremely well done - anyone complaining about it looking "cheap" has not taken good look at the attention to detail and the realistic style of the landscapes and buildings. This is as far from your generic fantasy world as you can get.

So please guys, before bashing something, get some actual hands-on experience (no, playing the tutorial doesn't qualify you to review any game), or at least do some research as to what the game's about. Claiming AoW is "just another Asian grinder" just makes you look like an idiot.

Why have none of the mmo sites talking about this game discussed the security issues seen when looking through Chinese websites.  One of them is the animated gif icons in the chat and another is the html cash shop screen.

The Chinese version now not only has a second password but also a phone authenticator whilst we are still on an older version of the game without those added security measures.

I started playing with several other friends during the beta, and not one lasted a month. As to why this game is not getting more coverage, easy: it does not deserve any.

I don't believe you actually played the game. Please educate us what typical Asian grinder in this game? and How many hours you have put in this game?

Doesnt really matter what you believe. The game looks alright and has a cool idea but its NA execution is lacking.I spent alot of time trying to figure out the cultivation system.Still not sure how to use it.I shouldnt have to go to some forums to figure out something that seems fairly important to your skills in game.Plenty of other MMO's out there to keep me occupied.

Sorry brother but your first few paragraphs explain enough of the bad in the game which is pretty much the first few hours and enough to make me stay away.If the game cant expalin itself to someone a little less patient than you, it wont keep me playing.Ive said it here it looks cool and the concept is cool but the execution is lacking.

PS: You calling people an Idiot for not liking a game makes you look more like an Idiot.

It is not nearly as western as Eve is.Its a confusing mess the first few hours. It looks and acts like a ton of other Asian MMO's and Im not talking about the theme.

Fair enough, to each his own.

P S: I'm not calling anyone an idiot for not liking the game. I'm saying that people making sweeping, fallacious and uninformed judgments make themselves look like idiots.

Several posters here obviously gave Wushu a fair shot but still didn't like it - nothing wrong with that. What bugs me are the know-it-alls who write self-important bs about how the game is "another cheap Asian grinder" and whatnot after playing for 25 minutes.

To anyone who have actually played the game, that stuff is just silly.

  • SnigerknudSnigerknud Member UncommonPosts: 60

Played for 2 hour and bah...

To much info about skills etc...

To much gold sellers in a game that have just started..

Character movement is very bad..it should be something they should have work with much more than this..in a "kung-fu" game like this.

Character custom..all players look the same.

    And much more !!

Well this was my 5cent..the game is uninstalled I will move on.

You obviously don't allow for any other opinion other than your own.  Be quiet if you can't be respectful.  Offer counter-arguments on why the game is fun and stop attacking people and calling them liars.

P.S.  If I don't like a game at the start, I don't consider it worthy of any more time investment.  It's great that you think it does, but that is you and not me or him, but ours is no less valid of a reason.

Honestly, if you don't know what you are talking about you should simply STFU. He is right, that guy hasn't played more than 10 minutes, like many other spazzing all over this forum.

Now why you should get all upset because park expressed quite politely his OPINION that the guy is just some troll making things up, beats me. Go play something you graps instead

i've played during CB, but the bad translations and the confusing armor/weapon stats was pain in the ass! i've noticed that some things are fixed, but it's just few minutes impresion, cus i went to work. hows the things now overall? i mean the localization part, cus that was the main problem (for me) during the CB.

Honestly I haven't seen improvements on localization and UI....
