Old-school DAOC vernacular & nostalgia

in Dark Age of Camelot

I thought it would be fun to share a few old-school phrases you remember from early days of DAOC, that you haven't seen much since. I don't think I've heard some of these at all, or  very little the last 10 years.

 

Neck Check (dangit I forgot again lol)

PBAOE (point blank area of effect... ugh dem hibbies)

PBT (pulsing blade turn... wow we have an earth theurg?)

OOM/OOE (out of mana / out of energy)

CC (I kind of put this in this list as a joke, because so many games have gotten so far away from the kind of CC I did on my sorc in daoc)

LFG (same as above... remember having to spam chat with LFG "whatever" to form groups? hehe)

Twist chants (shout out to you pallies)

Mile gate (never played new frontiers, so not sure if it had those)

 

I could keep going, but I'll let some others come up with some. =)

    I hated that soo much.  Forgetting that I was bound to some remote town in the middle of nowhere and I'd have to spent a half hour horse route jumping to get back.

    LOL @ Neck Check... o man the memories of sitting on that portal pad, lol...

     

    I think the big one for our 8 man gank squad was always, "Who's MA?!" Or yelling in Vent... "ASSIST DAMNIT ASSIST!!"

    But even though we hated it why does this remain in our memory? Maybe because this was something to talk about at work the next day.:)

    When I first started playing I could not afford a very fast internet connection and many times my friends had to wait for me to get back from going LD.:P

    Oh man, was I on a hayes accura 28.8 external dial up modem (serial cable), or us robotics 56k dial up when I started daoc? I can't remember LOL.

    Being a bard from launch (consider myself a pretty good one also) I used to get spammed invite tells from randoms or people I pugged 1 time with.  So much so I'd miss tells from friends in masses or reply to wrong person.  So inorder to clear out my name from people's friends list I started spamming /anon off and on.  People went crazy and got tons of "WTFS" lmao.  I was a server first, probably the only server first I'll every get. :/

    After that sometimes our 8 man group or guild would do it and watch alliance chat blow up. lmao

    If I were to play now the same way I did back then, I'd be wearing the brightest/flashiest colors on the planet LOL.

     

    Maybe it was to try to be less conspicuous, to hope to be last on the ...
