Wow. Kind of sad. Lucas Arts kept getting treated like Amtrak.
Make quality games inhouse, wait this is too expensive license them, wait the quality is not good enough, make them inhouse, wait it's too expensive, etc.
yeah, they like to shut down the great games and game studios and keep the turds alive.

Yeah totally weird title for this thread OP. I think it's terrible that 150 staff have been laid off too and wanted to see the 1st person game and 1313. Disney might give rights to the IP for future MMO's , that's up to them.

They said 1313 will be given to another developer to finish it. Star Wars in general will come back with a bang in disneys hands and JJ Abrams is a great director imo made a lot of good stuff like Lost.
They never said ending the video game production forever just not by the name of lucas arts. And 1313 will be handed to a new developer.
The way I read it, Disney doesn't want to do anything with Star Wars but licensing. (They are making the movies, but in a sense they are even licensing that out to JJ.) Everyone working at Lucas Arts got the can. They could license out Star Wars to another MMO. If I worked for ILM I wouldn't be happy with this turn of events.
In a utshell, Disney paid a billion for the Star Wars name. Disney will be happy to sell rights to the license, but doesn't want to spend money investing additional revenue into Star Wars related companies.
(ILM makes bank on its own, doesn't mean Disney wont sell it as an assest, risk avoidance.)
how is this valid to Star Wars the Old Republic? LucasArts wasnt developing it that was being done be BioWare/Mythic With EA providing the cash to do so.

Shutting down LucasArts was pointless. So many better outcomes could have risen from all this. Shutting them down, hmmm .. Is this what Disney is about then, acquiring then shutting down .. makes me wonder, should make you wonder too.

Star Wars should go to the most qualified, though a pool of contenders. Having less competition isn't good for the end user (us, ie me and you).

They count on billions of dollars of profit from movies... games are nothing comparing to this and it takes longer to make then movies. I think we will see much less SW games in the future... which is bad news for us, but good news for SWTOR:)
Edit. And considering that most of gaming companies will stay away from SW IP (it brings bad luck LOL) ...

DIsney have to license the Star Wars IP to Square Enix. Its time for a change. Star Wars set in Japan. Jedi Ninjas vs Sith samurai.

Im sure disney will get other developers to make star wars games, its not like they dont make games based on their other IPs. Kingdom Hearts for instance.
Personally i am hoping that they will give license to the guys who made Jedi Knight 2, i believe Raven Software were behind that fantastic game, maybe we will finally see the next adventure of Kyle Katarn at some point in the future.
As for Lucas Arts, it's a shame really, but more because of nostalgia than anything else, it's been quite some time since they made a good PC game, and i am not just talking about Star Wars here, hell some of their best, legendary games had nothing to do with SW IP, games such as Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, Full Throttle, Sam & Max etc.
