$5k contributor speak out

comicguycomicguy Member Posts: 123

I would love to hear from the 5k guy.

What made you pour in $5k?

What do you do for a living?

Are you married?

What is your net worth?

What would you do with the $5k if  you didn't spent it on CU?

Wow that's a lot of private info to give out.

I'll give the answers that I don't mind sharing. I gave 5k because that's as much as I can afford. I'd give more if I could, I really want to see this game come to life. I am married, my net worth atm is: ~25k

If I didn't spend the $5k on this game I'd probably just throw it in the stock market, add it to my current account and watch the money keep on growing.

There? You got an answer, and you have no idea of whether this person is telling the truth, or completely bullshitting...

Here's my answer: I'm worth 50 billion dollars, my name is Bill Gates, I founded Microsoft, and I can afford it. :P

Clearly lives in parents basement on the dole to be able to spend that sort of money on gaming.

I was thinking that the people that contributed the $5k were pooled from a Guild.

Guild would then have fame to own island, etc.

This would not be a surprise since I was in a guild where people contributed to Vent and to mule accounts.

Are there any $5k contributor doing it a a guild pool funding?

Talking about it with my Guild, but we're waiting to see if there's anymore 5k Guild tiers added before we pull the trigger.

Yea, living in parents basement rent free would be awesome, especially in San Francisco(ok, that won't work because houses don't have basement in SF).

I have no idea why people knock it. It's rent free and you get a nice home cooked meal and you can help your parents out.

Do parents and kids hate each other that much? Only reason why I don't live with my parent is because my job pays me much more in a different city. If I couild get a job in the same city where my parents live and earn the same salary, you bet I would move right back home instead of paying $2k a month in rent.

Imagine how many islands I can buy if I didn't have to pay $2k a month in rent!!!

It does not make any sense... If you have that amount of money, you would spend it doing better things in real life... It does look like more money laundering? :-P

That's why I'm really curious about the individuals that contributed the $5k.

I can see a guild of 50 people contributing $100 each doing this and this would be reasonable...

but one individual contributing $5k by himself for himself...WHO ARE YOU??????? AND WHY??? is it to torture us to guess why????

seriously though, people spend what they're comfortable spending or what they can afford. I could afford to spend 5k, probably even the 10k and wouldn't miss it, but its still a lot of money to spend on essentially nothing and i dont feel comfortable spending that much, im sure we're all the same just the amounts are different.

yea, I can afford the $5k myself but I just couldn't see myself doing it for a MMORPG unless I became part owner of the company even if its .000001%.

Plus if my wife ever found out I spent $5k on a video game, I would be dead or haVe to spend another $5k to be left off the hooker.

  • comicguycomicguy Member Posts: 123

Yea. That's what I'm doing with my $10k. Going to Hong Kong for a month.   Just can't fathom spending $5k on a mmorpg...

Use any man's secret weapon - flattery. Buy her a purse or some shoes, comment on how nice she looks, and ask her how her day was. As she prattles on about how Nancy in HR is being a hag, and how much she is looking forward to the next episode of "Real Housewives," slip in the fact that you bought a virtual island for $5,000. She will never even hear you. ;)

    It totally works.

That is because you clearly value travel over your MMORPG hobby, which is cool and understandable. Some people do not; or, some people can justify spending money on both.

At any rate, your money, your priorities. To the people dropping $5,000 on the inn or island, they probably want to first and foremost support the game and see it get funded and made, but secondly they really are keen to own a part of the world. Is it virtual? Of course. However, that is really barely a factor; what is important is how it makes you feel. Judging by most comments, everyone almost universally agrees those rewards are cool - then why is it so hard to understand the desire to have them?

Happiness derived from a virtual world is equal in value, on an emotional level, to happiness derived from the real world. Just so long as, you know, you keep in mind the virtual world is indeed virtual.

Me too. However, I am single and actually like my parents, a lot. We get along just fine. If it was socially acceptable for a man of my age to move back in, and if it would not scare off all potential females, I would totally move back home. It would be cheap, the chores would be shared, and I'd get to see my dog more often. ;)

You obviously haven't been to Vegas. The city were people ALWAYS spend more than they're comfortable with on an hourly basis.

No kidding! I am going to Las Vegas in July (do not ask me why we planned the trip when it is going to be hotter than Hades), and plan to keep to a strict budget. After dropping a whack of cash on this Kickstarter, I need to!

Or I could just try to win my pledge back... Uh oh, this is how people end up over their head in debt, getting their knees smashed with a tire iron by some guy named "Little Tony," which is an ironic name for a 320 pound fat Italian guy.

Are we really still talking about parents basements?

I could list a dozen reasons why I prefer living outside of my parents house.  I'm honestly not sure why anyone that is a responsible adult would actually want to live in their parents basement.  I mean, really?

And yeah, If you are going to throw away $5,000 for a blueprint to a game, then why not give it to me?  I can do more with it than hope and dream.  I need to replace my siding and build a new cement step walkup to my front door.  I'd much rather use someone elses money than to spend most of the year saving up for such things.  Apparently some people can just throw it around.  It must be nice.

Vegas in July is horrible. Went to Vegas in July last year and it was about 100 degree.  Even at night, it was tiring to walk because it was so hot. Had to stayed in hotel and casino most of the time.

I'm always amazed watching the people at Vegas placing thousands dollar bet and I always wonder what they do for a living.

I also went to Vegas during Christmas and people lined up for 6 hours to pay $60 for all you can eat buffet at Bellagio and Casear.  People for fighting in lines ...all for the privilege to pay $60 for all you can eat during Christmas
