Rift or WoW

dmartinationdmartination Member Posts: 25

hey I have been playing runescape for the last month and I have been extremely bored. I used to play WoW from Bc-WOtlk. I got on during the scroll of res a while ago and got to 85 in WoW. I have not played MOP yet. Anyway is WoW a good game still? Also I have never been maxed level in rift because i never got into it. Is that a good choice to get into or is WoW?

or should I wait for ESO

Thanks for helping

playing wow since almost release and rift for a year. i love them both. imo go for wow. especially if you are from eu. rift has only 1 high server and 3 medium. only 1 of them english. thats not the main factor but an important one.

anyway if i was to play one, it will be wow

well im from america. and what about ESO?
  • LyvinsLyvins Member Posts: 70

Well i am personnaly just playing GW2 as i am waiting for ESO.  Looks to me ESO will be a nice game. But yet much has to be  seen of course.

If you want to play a game while waiting Rift and WoW are both nice games. But if i were you i would just go for a B2P game that way you save some money as ESO is for the end of this year.

Secret world, guild wars 2, defiance, ...  are all buy to play mmo's and tbh good fun to spend some time in. If you want to some practice for ESO, i don't think guild wars 2 would be bad. But like i said the three games i mentioned are all good fun ^^

I'd say Rift. Both are good games and of course, WoW is the giant in the room. For that reason, I'd go with Rift. Also, the recent changes in WoW have over-simplified the character design system. Rift has a very modular, flexible, and a deep trait system. It also has housing, which you might like since you played RuneScape.

I've been having a blast with Mists of Pandaria both in "raising" a panda from level 0 to 87 so far, and in leveling one of my 85's.  I know it's not a popular choice around these forums, but I say WoW.  I tried Rift to level 23 I think and was bored shitless. I hated the game and the rifts were more an annoyance than anything. It just wasn't my thing. I would assume that most people playing WoW will suggest WoW and most playing Rift will suggest Rift. You're going to reccommend (sp) whatever you personally enjoy.

    WoW here.

I have this issue where I mmorpg hop a ton. I get bored and hop from one to the other.

    Both are great imo.

At the moment I'm only playing Rift...WoW needs to revamp the race models and animations.  I just can't look at the same damn race models and animation for another year....I will not do it.

if those are your only two choices i'd say Rift.. for me the souls in Rift are a lot of fun to play with.. you can come up with a ton of combinations which work well and are fun to play.. it's also really nice being able to play multiple roles with a single class. WoW imho had better stories but found Rift overall was more fun(for me). Also i hear the dimensions is pretty fun to play around with

if u never got into rift then u practicaly answered your own question. i played rift for like 20 min i hated in the first five and i had to control myself to play the next 15 miniutes thinking it will get better.

i would play wow. u might have to grab the expansion if u havent already

or u could try gw2 since has no sub

    im waiting for ESO also

I think they both let you play til level 20.  Try them both out.  I played Warcraft for years, played Rift for about a year. Liked stuff in both of them.

both are pve games.. why would you wait eso.. that one isnt pve.. its pvp centered game without any real pve apart 4 man dungeons ?

if you want pve game look for wildstar if you want pvp game there are plenty of options sure both rift and wow had pvp way before we had 200 of those pvp centered mmos launch, but most of them are free

if you want  good for nothing, go for gw2 ( not saying its bad game , its just bland mediacore in between that  excels in nothing )

someone who wasted his life playing wow, and played rift only for few months, i still would say go rift, and if you want real advice stay away from time consuming mmorpgs , get into moba, lol dota hon any cheap knockoff there are plenty.. preferrably dota or hon

Um... I'd easily say Rift. Wow has done a good job of destroying any appeal WoW once had away. It depends really what you want and though I feel WoW has done poorly in almost every field lately (seriously, WHY DO YOU GET WORST WITH EACH EXPANSION BLIZZARD! HOW!) maybe you want the joke that is LFR, or just breezing through things without care. In which case. Maybe your tired of having any thought going into a pesky 'talent' system and want something that goes 'here idiot, this is how you do it".

Basically, do you want depth/challenge or not? If no, go WoW, if so go Rift.

Where did you hear that?  I thought that ESO was mostly about PvE?

    Rift by far.

Fine, we'll compromise. I'll get my way & you'll find a way to be okay with that.

I didn't stick with Rift too long, but I'd still recommend it over present-day WoW.  The combat could be better, but as far as graphics, questing, and the events, I'll play Rift again before I touch WoW.

I don't like what WoW has become over the years, but i also don't like what Rift has become with SL (hint: GRIND).

Personally, i would go for the game in which i find the better group of people to play with. Both games are only bearable and fun if you can play along with some nice people that share your approach to the game (which are hard to come by in both games nowadays), perhaps even rl friends. Get a "free to lvl X" account and look out for a guild in both games.

My rl friends quit both Rift and WoW and since i personally find it harder to socialise with the screaming kids and annoying moms as i get older, i know i would be end up playing all alone.

Now, if you plan to play on your own, you'll be needing tons of stuff to do to not get bored...in that case i'd say go for WoW on a healthy server. unlike Rift, you can at least pick a path to level that doesn't bore you. Someone may also help you out with some bags.

WoW's questing is, without a doubt, loads better than Rift's.

At least with WoW you get some voiceover story sequences, non-voiced story sequences, vechicles to get into, flyovers, NPCs that join you on certain quests, etc. Many of the quests are like mini games now. There is nothing like that in Rift.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Actually, you're right.  I wasn't even going to put questing, I was thinking more of the zone-wide events.  Questing is the one thing that WoW actually does better than any MMO I can think of.

    Rift pros:

Housing, one of the top 4 housing systems ever (along with UO, SWG and EQ2)

    The soul system

Stronger community (but not spectacular by any stretch)

More challenging group content (tougher initially, and takes longer to outgear it)

    Volan event is cool

    WoW pros:

Better raiding at this point.  As good as Rift's Hammerknell was, they havent been able to match it.  WoW's heroic raiding is certainly more challenging at this stage than Rift, and it has multiple difficulty levels for people that just like to see content (for some reason some call this a negative)

Faster content addition.  the tables have certainly turned here

Better combat (Rift is very spammy in nature)

Much better PvP (although if you are going to PvP, you shouldnt really look towards either)

Both games can get very grindy at max level if you let them.  Both games have a variety of ways to grind though.

I would say Rift gives you obviously much greater felxibility in your spec, but WoW's classes have more depth to them once you are actually in combat.  WoW has a finite number of specs (28), so the devs can make each of them somewhat unique and varied.  Because of the nature of the soul system they cant do that in Rift.

Where Rift makes up for it is the ability to have more than 2 specs like WoW.  I think to say that Rift has more combat depth than WoW is far from correct though.  Easily more choice, but not really more depth.
