Looks promising! The plug socket thing reminds me of lotro housing. I'm glad they are emphasizing this aspect. Could very well be a major impact in whether I play or not.

Funny. I didn't think it sounded anything like LoTRO housing....more like EQ2 maybe. LotRO housing was lame in one way for sure. You could only put a very few things in your house and they had to be set very specifically like on a hook here, a hook there, sort of. You had no freedom in decorating, not really. This appears to allow for more customization, or maybe I'm just seeing that because I want to. I am so ready for a new game with proper respect to housing.

Its not instanced, at least the physical house isn't. The interiors may be. But the reason they have made it so your house can use thrusters and float in the air to make is to make space.

It really looks alot like Free Realms housing though the ability to actually utilize game functions like UO has(crafting facilities, recall, etc) is certainly compelling.
I seriously hate forced housing. Making it so much of a buff that if you choose to NOT use it is actually detrimental to gameplay offends me.
Definitely something to consider, with the Settler path supposedly building up cities. Hopefully they have already considered this and cities offer enough to not be deserted.

I bet It will be a while, towards endgame, that houses get developed enough to even have 1/2 the features they talked about in the video. True this could be a problem but you still will run into people considering quests will not be given out at your house.
We will only know once we get to try it out.
Screw leveling games, give me something with "End game" at the beginning of the game.

This just goes to show you that a company can't please everyone... When MMORPGs don't have housing people cry that they want them and when they do people don't want them any longer.... I bet it will be the same for sandbox games... way too many people don't understand how different a game is when the developer doesn't hold your hand. Meh....

So 2 weeks into the game?

Hogwash. I for one have always argued against housing. Unless its forced its traditionally rarely used by any sort of majority. So while this is very much the "correct" way to do housing It does not make me like it any more. In fact its this sort of housing (Eq2) that made me absolutely despise it in the first place.

Well this is the first major release in what... a decade(?) to feature a decent housing system (LOTRO doesn't count as it was the worst I've ever seen). There are plenty of other games on offer to those like you that don't like it. I for one am glad to see a few studios finally reviving some of the things the genre lost after WoW's rise to power.

First, just because you did not like it does not mean it does not count. Second, that particular debates of whether its "your turn" or not has been hashed and rehashed many many times on this and many other forums. That particular line though is besides the point. My point is that I do not want to be forced to do it, which is what this is doing. I do not want to play decorator, but if I don't I will be getting less rested xp. I do not want to play Farmville, but if I don't then I lose out on what is sure to be an extremely efficient way of gathering supplies. That is my issue. Well, that and the aforementioned depopulating of cities just like what was seen in EQ2.

kinda funny how many people complain about lack of socialising in mmo's, how they have become 'solo' games before level cap, yet so many also support features that effectively take them away from other players.
i like the ability to mine and farm in my house, the additonal rest xp doesnt bother me, but things like personal AH, crafting tables, etc., make cities into ghost towns, as you said. its important to see other players in an mmo, even if they are just standing around an auctioneer on a fancy mount. nothing worse than walking into what is supposed to be a major hub and seeing no players, no chat going on..nothing.
I think the housing look's great, remind's me of Free Realm's housing, just more option's and the plug idea look's great.
The thing is,even with housing looking great it still look's like a cross between WoW and Free Realm's,this is kinda putting me off the game. It's not so much that the graphic's look cartoony,it's the fact I spent 6+ yrs playing that game in WoW.I'm tired of those look's.
Some day I'm going to put a sword through your eye and out the back of your skull!
I am glad it isn't "extra." Something that only some players will touch. They have put in more than just designing a home, it will bring real interest to players who aren't that into home designing. I think making it convienent to get to and from is also a big plus and I am hoping that people who normally don't like housing will appreciate Wildstar's.

Unless this changed in the past month, that statement is not correct. The houses on other islands are just background eye candy.
Prior to Arkship 2013, we asked the WildStar community to compile a list of questions they were burning to have answered. The questions spanned across all aspects of the game and while the event was under the auspices of a Non-Disclosure Agreement, we worked to collect those answers.
And today, Carbine Studios have verified that you can have some of those answers you have been seeking! So, with no little amount of joy I bring you some answers to your questions from inside Arkship 2013.

Housing Is housing instanced? And exactly how are there house battle zones going to work? Housing is instanced. The War Plot system is the “housing” battle system.
Is housing mobile? Will it be like UO where certain spots were coveted for being near good mining? Housing is instanced.
Can I attack someone else’s house? Not currently.
What kinda of stuff can we add to our houses ? All the things - even functional items.

I believe you do not play F2P games, or if you do , then you are a kid ( no offense ). F2P community is like ... going in a first grade school, where everybody screams, cry , and do .. *crazy* things.
I am very possitive that Wildstar will be P2P , but if it will be F2P then I will not touch it ( I am watching you Aion and Lineage 2 ) ...
Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy? Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!
I do see empty cities as a possible problem. It's unfortunate too because I do like player housing.
Without seeing the actual implementation, if it is just EQ2s but more functional then it is just bad implementation, not a bad feature.
The implementation that Wildstar talks about at a base level, could actually help to make community. If for example as is hinted, boss mobs spawn in housing areas, you could potentially expand that to have raid bosses spawning. Your whole little zone could become a destination of sorts. There could be jousting competitions (just an off the top of my head thing) ..
If they build reasons for people to go to and support people's houses I think it could actually be a good thing. If it is just a little solo island .. then I have to say that is disappointing.
LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity. I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already

You're making a lot of assumptions there... they already said in that video that you won't be missing out on anything if you choose not to use it. Hell rested xp is inconsequential anyway since you'll hit the cap sooner or later (probably sooner). The plugs that offer functional services were also indicated to have cooldowns on use so they strike me more as a convenience for when you don't have much time.
At the end of the day though you're not being forced to do anything; if you don't like housing then just don't play the game. Like I said there are very very few games with decent housing systems which means you have plenty of other options whilst we have very few.
