If CU funds I finally get to change my name!

TimothyTierlessTimothyTierless ColumnistM, ORPosts: 2,163Member Uncommon

I took this name for sandbox promotion and more importantly for hope. It was the cross that I carried, a scar upon my face, a scarlet letter on my chest, a stone that I was chained to. I vowed to carry this burden until the day when a developer finally listened to us. The few, the proud, the sandboxers! I knew it made all themeparkers snicker when I posted in threads. I knew it would impact the way people viewed my posts. I knew they would always say I was bias. But I wore this name in hope that MMORPG fans somewhere, someday might be inspired, might listen, might remember the days of old. The days of unpredictability, of chaos, of loss and of consequence. I wanted the old schoolers to see that they were not alone. They didn't need to burn in lonely forum flames. Every thread that a sandboxer got flamed in made us stronger! We never gave up and we never will!

We have been called many things, bitter vets, old, out of touch, a dying breed, and worst of all, a forgotten niche. We get flamed, told to give up, told to move on, told this genre doesn't belong to us any more. Well I got news for you. We were here before it was main stream, and we will be here long after! We might be some of the things I mentioned above, but were also loyal, honest, hopeful and above all else-passionate about this genre!

From what MJ said in the latest update it looks like the time has finally come. CU sounds like it will have the right mix of sandbox elements for me to finally end my propaganda crusade. Were coming back, we did it together, we never gave up hope for someone to make another sandboxy consequence filled game, and now MJ looks to be the one brave enough to do it.

If CU funds I will finally get to put this cross down and take a name that is pronounceable again! (any sugestions welcome ;)

I used to hope someone would try to make another sandbox, now my hope shifts. I hope it funds, I hope it's great, and I hope we see the philosophy MJ has talked about in CU!

I thought about BitterSWGVet until they make a respectable Star Wars MMO but that might not happen in my lifetime and that name would be a pain to type out.

With the sandboxes that have released over the last few years (Darkfall) and the announcement months ago that EQN is a sandbox its pretty curious you would single out CU, which isnt even aiming to be a full MMORPG, as your poster child.

Not to mention a game like the repopulation, which basically sounds like SWG2 and has a significantly greater chance at release, even if CU gets backed.

Support CU all you want, but dont make it out to be the savior of MMORPGs, because thats just foolish.

FYI, CU is aiming to be a full mmorpg, strangiato2112. I am not sure what made you think otherwise.

Your name is pronounceable, though. Xobdnas = Zobd-nahs.

    Suggestion: Zobdnahs

From what Mark Jacobs has been saying, MMORVR is likely better. The game sounds like it's just an RvR game with little to no PvE, and some sort of crafting system added on.

PvE does not equal rpg. We are just debating semantics now.

It's a game based in a fantasy setting that lets you create a character who will develop over time. Sounds like a rpg to me.

Intriguing. You shall bow down to ZOBDNAHS keeper of the sandbox, protector of the sand, ruler of the box! Fighter of the night man! Friend of the Day man!

As for why CU and why not the other ones? Well, I guess because with MJ being involved I think CU will actually be good, finished, and well funded vs the other ones being a bit too inde, low budget, and never releasing for my tastes. Darkfall was great, and they killed it, it no longer exists, so it does not qualify for a name changer.

Either way, I don't see it being a full MMORPG. It's more likely to be a very niche PvP game with RPG elements, and decidedly feature-light since MJ already talked about not needing a lot of developers and time to create it once funded.

But that's fine, MJ just doesn't have the money and manpower to take on a full-scale project, so I can understand the need to focus on a few things, rather than many, and should the game be successful, maybe then it can be expanded into one.

I am generally a night man, but today I'm a day man. Does that mean you'll be a betrayor of the temporary day friend as he eases back into the night?

Heyooo, I think due to the depth of crafting, the housing system, and the lore it will be more MMORPG than most of the stuff we have seen in the past few..no, several years (crap its been that long)!

I'm just naturally pessimistic. If he can manage to pull everything off, then I can see this being great as well, but as of right now, neither you or I know how much depth will make it to any of the systems come launch.

I'm keeping my thoughts more realistic, and not going to hype this game up in any way. However, at this point, I'd be surprised if it even gets funded. But then, games have been funded that are less thought out, by people who have little to no experience in the industry, so maybe it'll work out fine.
