    The thing is the made a new engine in what 2004 or 5, instead of using one of the pre-existing engines that could do all of what they asked then.

    Graphics matter, but animations create a bottleneck if they aren't good.  It amazes me how many games get released with crappy animations for basic actions, like running and jumping.
