Tiny requests from DAoC players

Give renown/realmpoints or whatever it's going to be called for killing players instead for taking empty objectives and keeps.

Warhammer had a lot of potential but when two HUGE armies were running around avoiding eachother because they got better gear and points for taking empty keeps and objectives then I quit the game. It's better to give players more points when killing other players at a keep and give points for taking the keep depending on how many defenders there were in the area. And give nothing if there were no defenders.

People should fight eachother and not just trying to grind points and tokens etc by doing the easiest way possible.

    Best request.

This made me chuckle. I had the same conversation with our lead concept artist. It pretty much boiled down to "Look at WoW and don't do it that way for CU." :)

Yeah, keep the "serious" look that you guys did back in DAoC, no cartoonish characters, no bling bling and all that stuff, DAoC had a great ambiance, atmosphere and look, that alone would be awesome.

And By the way, thanks Mark for bringing us hope again, after 10 years, nothing beats DAoC so far.

the crafting system pre-toa.  I liked that all you needed at lvl 50 was some ql 99% armor and weapons with a decent template and you were set.  Could get some MP armor and weapons later and try to max your stats and resists.....but wait...NO BUFF BOTS!

    thats my request....NO buff bots

the aug shaman was the whore of midgard....giving their good goods to anyone in an alley at a border keep

Only thing that wil get me to play this game...

PvE content, does not have to be much. Just some open world dungeons like in DAoC. Somewhere to unwind with guildies and friends when PvP is dead or you feel like a little relaxing play time. If there isnt a place to unwind I will pass.

    Limited PvE content.

Im afraid the only "relaxing playtime" you'll find is crafting for guildmates in the confines of your home... they will no doubt need armor & weapons when they are slain and corpses scattered abroad by Viking forces...

If they did a dungeon like Darkness Falls in this game, how would that work with no PVE? How do you make it a popular place to go given their current crafting system and limited PVE.

    That's a good question?

PvE to make it a real MMO. PvP only 3 faction game will fail greatly!

Without question, a DF style dungeon. Now that pve is out, it can be the best resource for mats for crafters, or the only way to get them? DF will be very fought over that way.

I could get excited about this idea, could do a lot with making them mine/harvest materials etc. If you arn't going to have NPC's.

This would force your realm to continuely battle for control and clean out the crafters so yours can get in. I like it.

    Agreed.

Or instead of darkness falls, Dragons Nest.. the DF equivalent. Since MJ said there would be dragons, the dragons could pose a threat to lone crafters seaching for mats.

Ya, I loved back in the day DF farming and a huge important zone for crafters. This will encourage wanting ownership of the zone.

MJ's said many times there will be npc monsters/creatures and guards.

He just said no LOOT or CHARACTER PROGRESSION through PVE.

You get your gear/loot from crafters, and your character progression from fighting in rvr (unless you're a crafter then you get it from crafting).

To me that completely means there could be darkness falls style dungeons. You'd probably be fighting over crafting resources though, or some other such type RVR objective.

Just like in EVE, I expect some of the best crafting resources to be in the most dangerous parts of the world (dangerous both in terms of other players/realms, npc monster/guards, etc...)

He's also said though, that there's hardly any "safe" areas, since the entire world is a RVR combat zone.

I feel like you'll be able to do less stressful activities like crafting or housing if you don't feel like fighting, but I think that risk will always be there, you just decide on the risk level based on the area you go.

    Darkness Falls  !!.....

    ..and while we're at it:

Some level of longer term  large scale strategy required, instead of taking daily turns to sack the enemy capital..twice

Hmmm crafting resources from pvp dungeons... that sounds nice.

The dungeons would need to be conquerable with a few "levels" and enterances. on the lowest level there is (like the keep lord) the boss... maybe a Troll king. If a realm wins the fight against the champion, then the troll king will allow this realm to harvest resources. Other realms will get attacked by the trolls. The dungeon could have several areas with sub-bosses, so they could get conquered by different realms at the same time.

Great thread. All I'll say for now (and I've said this before), I LOVED the concept and execution of DF and that I'm staying away from hyping (or even talking about) aspects of the game too early in the development process. So, please don't equate silence on some/any issues with non-implementation.

After all, Sir Thomas More is supposed to have said during his trial "Qui tacet consentire videtur, he that holds his peace; seems to give his Consent."

OTOH, he was beheaded so... :)

I'm also betting they'll have actual conquerable resource gathering places. It depends on what resources they put in the game, but the easy one would be an actual mine/cave with ore inside, or a lumber mill type place. IF your realm owns it, there are guards and whatnot from your realm defending the resources, so in theory you could "gather" from there more safely, although there's the risk an enemy realm would attack the resource camp while you're there gathering. I think that'd be a cool way to tie the RVR into the resource gathering.

Also the transportation of such goods. EVE had actual ships designed to carry a lot of stuff. I wonder if there will be something like that in CU to transport large quantities or resource mats or crafted goods around, that people COULD attack (sort of like cross realm piracy) to take the stuff from you if you try moving it around with a guard/escort.

I would find that really neat, and a cool tie in with the crafting / rvr stuff if you could actually commit piracy against the enemy realms hehe. If you don't feel like gathering your own crafting mats tonight for your guild, put a group together and try to scout out and hit up some enemy realm resource or crafting caravans moving goods. =)

Sounds like a lot of possibility for risk/reward. =)

I would like to see something akin to the Camelot Herald for this game.  The grab bags also!

Be even neater if you could access the herald while in game.

  • Corinthian-XCorinthian-X Member Posts: 86

A herald site and official forums.

No offense to the good people that post here, of course.

This isn't DAoC 2, so I'm not sure that asking for the old server names makes any sense.  That being said, GAWAINE-HIBERNIA, baby!  WOO!

There are so many things I would like to see borrowed from DAoC:

    Darkness falls

    Positional/reactive combos

    3-realm RVR

    A huge variety of classes

    Castle seige

Housing with crafting, storage, and merchants

What I don't want to see:

Players that run through you just before your spell completes so you get a message saying you must be facing target.  That was always such BS!

Casters that can't cast in combat who only have one quickcast!!

Edit:  I also recommend Mr. Jacobs bring a few of us DAoC veterans in for his old school advisory panel.  Preferrably a few like myself who weren't ToA haters.

    Currently playing:
    Rift
    Played:
SWToR, Aion,EQ, Dark Age of Camelot
    World of Warcraft, AoC

probably a better idea to outcast people who didn't hate toa.
