World of Warcraft: Isle of Thunder Preview

SBFordSBFord Associate Editor - News ManagerThe Land of AZPosts: 16,595MMORPG.COM Staff Uncommon

The World of Warcraft community site has been updated with a new preview of the forthcoming Isle of Thunder quest hub location. The new island will open off the coast of Townlong Steppes and will "new daily quests, rare spawns, summonable bosses, hidden treasures, and more."

First things first, how do you get to the island to begin with? At level 90, players will get their first quest in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms where they’ll automatically get the quest “Thunder Calls” or you can go directly to the Shado-Pan Garrison in Townlong Steppes to get started. From there you’re on your way. This isn’t a walk in the park and while flying seems like the easiest way to get where you need to, these are definitely not friendly skies. Flying won’t be available on the island as much as the invading forces would like it to be. A portal between the Shado-pan Garrison and the Alliance or Horde quest hubs will be available after your initial flight to the island so that you can get back into the action quickly.

I am seriously impressed with this patch. Now that is what I call an "expansion worth of content" :D

this is more like a late release catch up to the expac.  They do this with all of them anymore.

Care to elaborate what you mean by that?

WoW has always spaced out high level content with their expansions.  People here just like to have a reason to complain about WoW.

In theory though and in all fairness to those people this comes from Blizzard themselves who have stated that when they roll out an expansion any large updates that roll out until the next expansion are to be associated with that last expansion.  I haven't played this game since TBC so it could actually be implemented differently (as in all features of said update are available to all players of the game) but again this is an excuse I myself have seen blizzard use over and over again.

I think that Zul'Again is pretty much what is to expect from this game nowadays.

    Repetition, 10x re-used models, repetition and...repetition.

Nothing beats more of the same!

They roll out new drastic "changes" during subsequent expansions.....as far as content, they have never been stingy in releasing it throughout an xpac's life.

WOW offers a good amount of content thrhough their updates. However, once they anounce a new expansion it all seems to fall apart for them as the content stops coming for some reason. In WoTLK and Cata their excuse was that the big baddie was killed. What is going to be their excuse now?

To be fair, they did release Ruby Sanctum after ICC during their "down time".

Cata on the other hand, the gap between DS and MoP was abysmal.

Also, form their developer blog last week: "The team is being organized to try and avoid having a really long final patch before the next expansion."

Ah....yeah...of course the new update content patches would be associated with the prior expansion.  Not sure what you point is.  Why would they release content for a future expansion and why would release content for past expansions where only a fraction of the base is.

I hate when I travel around the world that animals look the same...stupid rehashed models in the real world.

People are so blinded by ther hatred of WoW that they refuse to give credit where it is due.  Blizzard has certainly upped their game

2.2 was 8 months after BC release

3.2 was 9 months after WOTLK release

    4.2 was 7 months

and now they are doing it in less than 5, and the content added in 5.1 and 5.2 is quite a bit more than 4.1 and 4.2.

So they are picking up the pace big time.

I think MOP is a very under rated expansion, people refusing to play it because ironicly they think it's for kids yet they're the ones being kids BM'ing it and the players at every opportunity.

Actually the average patch release schedule is 9 months so yea it might as well be an expansion.

I'll take monthly patches any day of the week.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

Regular patches and content updates are 2 very diff things. Id rather have 1 minor and 1 major content update after 5 months, than 6 filled with bug fixes and class/design tweaks.

Most of WoW's hotfixes (as major as many of GW2's "Patches") did not recieve a much attention, because they were just that....hotfixes/patches, not "Content Updates"

Remember when you had to actually visit a sub-forum for a Fanboy Stare? :either direction:

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
