I'm old fashioned, I like a subscription with my games...there's only one downside to a subscription game, and that's the subscription.  The bonuses of a subscription game more than make up for that though lol.

There's another downside to a sub game.  In that these days, they all go F2P within a year or two,  and then they launch a ludicrous cash shop.  That's what sub games are to me.  A soon to be F2P game.

Do you like F2P games?  Then why do you like sub games?  They're F2P babies.  They'll just grow up, get all moody in their teenage years, and then become F2P.

Now Buy to Play?  That's even more old fashioned.  Now that, I'll do.

    DUH!

It's a publicly trading company. That means it's a company that has to please stockholders. Which means that you and your gamer friends can do one of two things. Buy some stock and go to stockholder meetings where you can nerdrage to your hearts content or just not buy EA games

I would seriously hope a company that is publicly traded does everything they can to keep their investors as happy as possible and increase its value. You may not agree in the way they go about it but guess what. Nobody cares about it unless you and the gaming community sends a clear message that starts with not opening wallets. Something you will never succeed at trying to rally. People love the sim games, the battlefield games and whatnot. Only a small handful really have the conviction to stand by their forum rants and they don't count for much

If you were truly old-fashioned you'd be like "I like F2P" and cite classic F2P shareware titles like Doom and Wolf3D where they sold you the levels after letting you play the first part of the game for free.

Easy way to show EA how you feel about their greedy nature is to stop buying their games.

If you really want a certain title, just wait for it to either come down in price so EA doesn't profit too much or get it pre-owned so they don't profit at all and ignore all the DLC / cash shop crap.

EA are souless and do not care about games, just cash and do not deserve to prosper.

Again, what does this have to do with F2P? Do you honestly think Dead Space 4 will be free, for example?

So you want a subscription fee with your singleplayer games now? No thank you.

I miss the days when games were not cash-slot machines like in casinos.

And btw, 15$ for virtual stuff like TORs pathetic lifeday speeder is certainly not a "microtransaction".

EA vision of F2P = no thanks

So another thread on another site about the same topic from probably the same 20 guys. You know if no one liked it , it wouldn't be an issue. It is like when free to play came out and EVERYONE hated it, well I guess it wasn't everyone but a few as that obviously was a failed marketing scheme.

I personally enjoy choices in what I get for my games and not. You can argue (and it has been done a ton already) about dlc and more. Hell I love the comments "if a game comes out with day 1 dlc I won't buy it" really? So if they just hold that dlc for a month and say NEW DLC your in? Point being, if you enjoy a game and want more content then buy it, if not then don't. No one is forcing you to do anything. You all are getting your e-pon's hurt over what? That games that you would never buy to begin with are getting more content by means of micro-transactions? Ok, sure ummm... whatever.

I remember the glory days of DEMOs...(shareware).
The fun times with console commands we had.

What really bothers me isn't that all that what defines a game is stripped and sold additional as "fluff", it's if i would mod my singleplayer game or use a memory hack (trainer) / console command _(if aviable) i suddently "steal" from EA just because the now sell XP boosts for "levels" in FPS singleplayer games.

Currently in crysis you can open the console and jump to certain levels, spawn enemies, unlock skillpoints.

I shudder to think that i start to be a "criminal" when i do it in Crysis 5 EA edition in 2015.

I remember back in the day paying for an additional $40 for additional content (story, Unit, maps, whatever) after the original $60 game.

Think they were called EXPANSION PACKS.

Not sure why we are so up in arms about this, yeah DLC is smaller than expansion packs but they are also cheaper.

These are not expansion packs we're talking here. These are things to make your journey through singleplayer games more smooth (if Dead Space 3 is any indication of what is to come, at least). Basically cheat codes that cost money. It is not the same thing as an expansion pack, AT ALL.

I think the idea is solid but the content they sell needs to change from weapons and armor to areas, missons etc.

Most games are released then that's it, at least this way if you really enjoy a game they can keep releasing content as long as there is demand.

A new cash grab from a company that wants to charge you by the bullet for Battlefield. People are surprised? EA is the worst company on the planet, at least the world mega banks don't pretend to be doing it for your enjoyment and entertainment while they are boning you right through your pants.

    Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV
    Have played: You name it

The free to play crowd, who "aren't paying a dime to play" these games, are going to find that they're responsible for making games more expensive than they could have ever imagined.

At some point down this F2P road you're going to see draconian measures.

Paying by the bullet in newest FPS will be commonplace.  Imagine only having a certain amount of bullets for any given FPS match.  No matter how many times you respawn you only get a set amount of bullets to fire.  It's free, as long you never run out of ammo.  So now your choices are play every match until you run out of ammo and then quit that match, or pay for a bullet limit upgrade.

One day this will turn on the freepers.  Enjoy all the freeloading now, but one day even you will be paying.

I can see myself as a bitter gaming vet in the future "Man, do you remember when games used to only cost the subcription fee and single player games were one set price for the entire game?  Yeahhhh, those were the good old days."

I love your ignorance and I find it awfully amusing to say the least considering there have been games out there who pretty much already make you pay per bullet for the past decade almost (Entropia Universe), way predating the end of the P2P system. Moan all you want for companies ripping you off it isn't the fault of F2Pers that they're doing that, moronic publishers and devs will do that to people if they can get away with it even if F2P wasn't blooming right now, why? because of greed. Now I will leave you to your ghost town P2P themepark games with dwindling populations, gear grinds and meaningless PVP.

I am curious if this means that the cash shop in SWTOR is making them money .It will mean the game is making them a profit and will not be shut down.

So many words saying no, so many dollars saying yes.

It makes you believe gamers think their opinion is what game companies listen to.

'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.

Just goes to show you that this is all just a business and you will be nickel and dimed to death...  While this may pertain to single player and co-op style games, EA also has a host of MMO's. This is why I support Sub style games and independent developers

Everyone wanted F2P, and this is the result.  It's sad, but you reap what you sow.

Precisely.  Some saw this as the down side to this path, some just saw "FREE FREE FREE".

Well folks, to those that haven't learned this yet, nothing in life is free.
