Agree^^ and also I've never experienced a load screen anywhere near minute's in length.Load time's are comparable to to many I saw in other game's.

    It's a convenience,not a gamebreaking must buy.

I'd rather have a seemless Star Wars universe .. you know, worthy of Star Wars?  and all the innovation that comes with the title ...

Load screens were great in EverQuest .. but that was 1999.  Now we pay to avoid load screens, see whats wrong?

Wait a minute.  Load screens are so 1999?  I thought that GOY GW2 that everyone loves so much has many of them?  I heard that it evolutionary?

I suppose you answered your own question.

Are you seriously upset about something that makes sense and should have been there since launch?

We have companions, idling around on OUR ship, at the local spacestation. If we get bored, overrun, or need to answer our guilds call to arms on some far off planet we SHOULD be able to call our ship down and get off planet quick smart. It would be nice if there was a "pickup" animation like when they grab Qui Gon Jinn off tatooine leaving Darth Maul to stomp his feet in frustration. But as to the mechanic itself - should of been in at launch - should be glad its in now.

I'm not sure it qualifies for a convenience feature. Its more of a pay to avoid excessive inconvenience.

The type of monetization being done in SWTOR is ultimately going to prove to be more harmful than profitable. There is a major difference between paying for convenience and being forced to pay to avoid excessively inconvenient mechanics.

When people feel forced to pay to enjoy a free to play game they leave. When players feel its optional and an actual convenience item or something they are generally more than willing to hand over the cash if they have it.

If you enjoy the game you should worry about things like this because if they fail to make a profit you lose the game you enjoy.

So you just ignoring the fact that you can unlock with legacy?  Or because you can also buy something that is just a convience thing, it's terrible.

    COOL!

As much as you say you play the game and keep playing it, you sure do enjoy bashing it non stop.  And you say "I want the game to improve"

Great! Me too! But ripping on the game for convience from real money when it can be bought for ingame currency (Or subbing, as I seem to have it since I'm a subber...lol) seems...weird.

Gee sorry, I only saw the SWTOR mod say I could purchase legacy unlocks.  Perhaps you saw something I didn't?  Last time I got leacy unlocks I earned them, I didn't purchase them.

I don't think this has anything to do with load times (maybe you need a faster hard drive?) but simply how long it takes to get from a zone where you do quests and such to your starship.

I really don't know what they were thinking when they made the starports so gigantic. Takes 10 minutes to go from playing the game to your starship and vice/versa.

And it's not like it's out of realism, either, since most ports probably would have more than 4 hangars. They should just stick an elevator near the begining of the starport and you click on that and it takes you to the hangar.

And make the hangars smaller. There's no way the starport can afford dozens of people just hanging around watching your ship.

I find it amusing that Karteli has elicited such impassioned responses. There is simply no compelling reason to defend this game, it runs poorly, has bad systems, is dumbed down, and succeeds in being as unidirectional as a console SPRPG.

All of those posts of his describe someone who wants to love this game, but is prevented from doing so by it's myriad failings.

Aye, and thank you for your compassion.  There seems to exist a sort of class structure in SWTOR, those who subscribe and use the cash shop, those who simply use the cash shop, those who play freemium with the cash shop, and those who play freemium exclusively (free).

It's unfortunate, but that is how EA set this game in motion.  Everyone is not on even ground when it comes to expenditures, some feel entitled, some feel others are cheap, others just want to be equal with other players.  So I imagine topics like this are going to continue being heated.  Impartial divisions amongst the playerbase can never end well.

For me, I'd rather just be on equal ground with other players.  Without all the pay extra for perks crap.

They charge for posting on forums. They charge for in-game support. They charge for EVERYTHING. And the customer service is shit. And todays update corrupted only my main character and now i cant participate in the event on the FIRST day! Customer service of course says that they are aware of it. I hope they burn in hell.

The game should be completely F2P with no restrictions. Just because they spent an ungodly amount of money and capitalized on a failed idea which failed to take off its THEIR problem, they shouldn't charge US for THEIR failures. I will complain to BBB about this just like I did with Funcom.

That was enough cause for a response.

Saying you may have PC related issues is an Ad-hominem now? Anyway..

I have the issues as well that you were referencing (long load times). Yet I feel it's quite a jump to say this cash-grab is related to that. More so it's a quick travel token, much like FC sells in AOC.

That have been true in many cases on this forum but not in this particular case.

Zooning in TOR is probably the worst experience in any MMO with multiple loading screens and instead of fixing it they put a bandaid on it and charges for it, that is just not fair to the players.

TOR do have its good points but EA needs to really fix the bad points instead of trying to earn money on them. There are plenty of stuff they can sell to get in their money without annoying stuff like this.

I don't really see this as very defendable.

How would you feel if they sold a "Choose what warzone queue to join" legacy unlock?

Or perhaps the "Combat Log" unlock?

Would these be reasonable convenience items as well?

  • FromHellFromHell Member Posts: 1,311

Well this is an obvious bandaid fix.. again. They can´t improve their loading times, so this is another "quick fix" which even nets them some profits. Many concepts feel half thought through, and this just fits into the whole picture of bad game design.

I mean seriously they could have made an animated loading screen which shows a cutscene and loads areas in the background, but hey they just don´t give a rat´s *** about immersion and creating a seamless travel experience which feels like Star Wars.

The whole quicktravel concept and "beaming" is completely out of Star Wars lore. And clicking on a space ship door to land is just stupid. And you can´t even enter your spaceship without taking off into space.

that's what USED to make MMOs fun for me, immersive worlds.
Travelling to dangerous places somewhere far away, danger of getting killed, ganked etc.

This is a start to another instanced lobby MMO where everyone can teleport everywhere without travelling the world.

I haven't read the whole thread, but if it's a Legacy unlock doesn't this mean that it's also available with credits...? So you don't HAVE to spend real money on it?

I haven't tried it, since I hadn't heard of the feature until now. But as others have said, it's hardly a gamebreaking one or P2W.

Oh I am so with you on that one ! The journey counts too. I have had some amazingly fun things happen while journeying in MMORPGs (as in real life). Of course I have had some horrible things happen too, but it is par for the course.

I can understand people might want to go from A to B quickly if they only have an hour to play, so I am all for having the choice, but I think it is a pity when games remove the travel aspect.

This is what I would like to know too. I am guessing you can unlock it through legacy and ingame credits, otherwise it is pretty poor...

SWG added in faster travel by reducing shuttle times, vehicles, ITVs, Group pickups and perks with cities / factions from leaderboard wins. But at least they did not charge people for it, and you got the perks from PLAYING the game.

People moaned in SWG when travel times got faster, but it is a choice. You can still explore and travel across the planets if you prefer, or wait 10 mins for a shuttle, but I suppose what made the 10 min wait worth it was that players used to socialise while waiting, and made the 10 mins go by quick, but standing there for 10 mins all by yourself is not great.

All I can say is what else do you expect, instead of turning out playable content, they focus on turning out stuff in the store in hopes that folks will buy it.  So they create a time saver and put it in the store.  This is how they make their bread and butter giving folks a shortcut for coins.

SWG cared about immersion and some realistic world mechanics, something which has been left out in SWTOR completely. Walking around in SWTOR feels like walking in a park of Star Wars themed Mattel plastic action figures.
