Do I? Eve is a game centered on simulation. It isn't questing, dungeon running, raiding, multiple characters nor is it focused on combat. It's also a pretty solo experience in comparison to some MMOs out there.
How you somehow came to this hidden meaning behind "I prefer gameplay orientated games" is beyond me.
I make a perfectly decent neutral post with my own opinion on how the game is a little too slow for me and get insulted instead, gg.

I'll grant you that. Eve is a lot about the metagame and going from pawn to knight and from knight to king is a very long way.

I have to completely disagree with you here. There is no other game that I can even think of off the top of my head that has a powercreep as bad as EVE Online's is.
You go ahead and try to PVP in a rupture these days. I can one shot a rupture in my Tornado. Not even a blip on my screen. "Oh look a ruppie" *insta lock, F1, POP*. Was there anything else at this gate or just that piece of trash? Hell, I could probably one shot a rupture IN my rupture and the noob wouldn't know how it happened.
The rupture was a viable and highly respected PVP ship back in 2005. In fact, T1 Cruiser fleets were the standard until people started getting their BC and BS skills up. These days if someone told me that all they could bring to my fleet is a rupture, then I would point them to EVE Uni until they get some SP and have BC 5 at the very least. I can work with BC 5 in my fleet, but a T1 cruiser? lol
I remember catching a carrier ratting on a gate back in Geminate in 2006. We piled in on this guy and killed him and it was a huge deal. Wow, our corp just took down our first carrier. We were high fiving each other on TS. It was great.
These days? "You killed how many carriers? Just one? Oh, cool. Well post it to the KB next to the 10 we killed in our fleet earlier tonight. Oh and by the way, we've got a bunch of guys who can't really fleet up tonight cause they're busy playing LoL, but they'll jump in a carrier if we find any real action so try to bait some caps while you're out."

what this means that in ten years, 450,000 people have came and subbed to the game at one time or another. this no where does it state in the article this is the current active subs. i still play the game and i can assure you, you will never see these numbers anywhere. hell even when you log in it clearly tells you how many are online. WTF how can anyone deny otherwise.
i was playing wormhoels and zero sec within 2 months of having an active character. I lost exactly... zero ships.
the game is interesting, i just prefer the physical character over space ship, so i unsubbed after half a year.

People want to be competitive and enjoy all aspects of the game - in order to do so in Eve you need to invest a LOT of time before reaching that stage. (If you want to be even remotely effective, that is.)
To draw on a more themepark MMO, imagine you want to raid the end-game raids with your buddies and they need a healer. Well, it's gonna take you 1 year of solid play to reach that level before you can begin to enjoy the raids.
The general entry barrier is what puts most new players off Eve - not to mention you will probably end up investing a lot of $$$ that you didn't expect to.
I'm a newbie player... i love the everytime new discover about the game mechanics... for the moment i dont want to go nullsec I'm just doing some exploration, sec missions and most important... i'm chating with corp mates... That last point, the social interaction, reminds me to eq1, when, where the healer rans out of mana full party had to stop and the start chating and knowing each other... eve is not a frenetic game like wow or gw2, where there are always an interaction needed... you do more things than pvp...
I'm very happy with this game, really surprising game and my corp aspirations arent pvp... they focus on industry and mining and so... we have fun, that's the important point... high end game is interesting, but the time you spent reaching that point must be important too...

There are a finite number of skills that can apply to any ship, and you can only skill them to level 5. Ergo you absolutely can catch up in the ship of your choice.
Older players can extend the range of ships they can fly, but if you're going to take that into account you might as well say that you're not going to play WoW because you'll never be able to catch up with the number of L85 characters the old players have.
Once you're past the first 6 months, you stop being limited by your skills in any meaningful way. Once you're 2 years in like the OP was complaining about, then your skills are long ago a null issue: all that counts is your player skills, assets and player interactions. ie: how you play the game.
This is even more true now that CCP has rebalanced the T1 cruisers and frigates, giving low-SP players viable ships right from the get go.
The OP is one of those players who thought he could grind and skilltrain his way to L33tness. EVE doesn't work like that.

I believe TQ has just under 400k subs. If you assume that an average eve player is logged in for 20 hours a week, then we'd expect to see an average of 400,000 x (20/168) = 47,600 online.

But seriously, EVE is a pretty niche MMO that would never grab the kind of player numbers that a game like WoW would generate no matter how more user friendly/easier they made it. The game has a dedicated fan base that has enabled CCP to develop it for almost ten years all while making a profit. I only played the game for a few months but I hope they never listen to you and alienate that base in exchange for appealing to the masses.

Simulation? Smoking something? EVE-Online is about as far from a simulation as you can get in terms of space games (your skill in-game is shown by the decisions you make outfitting your ship prior to a battle mostly, some skill is required knowing how to best kill things in PVP granted but... nowhere near simulation level).
Questing -> Missions
Dungeon Running -> Complexes
Raiding -> High-level wormhole running (class 5-6)
Multiple character -> One of my best friends in EVE runs 3 accounts with 1 main and 4 alternating alts for different things (hauling, pvp, FW,etc)
Not focused on combat -> you can get ganked even in 1.0 systems (they only systems which are safe are they nooby starter systems for very obvious reasons, but everywhere else if you're worth the effort you will get popped innevitably).
Pretty solo experience... ok here you just sound like someone who played EVE for 1-2 months and gave up before even joining a decent corp... if you say EVE is pretty solo then you're calling mostly everyone playing it idiots because we gang....allot... the only things you generally don't do in groups are Complexes (though depending on location and time you might call in backup and share the loot), low level wormholes (C1, C2) and missions which are below level 4 ( though if you run into a tough one for your ship calling for help isn't unheard of).
And the issue is ? Last time I looked, EVE is not only zerosec. Also there are all levels of players everywhere.
I do think you are making up and entirely artificial issue. It's the same BS as the argument that newbs cannot catch up to the veterans in EVE.
It's ok for a game to NOT be tailored to all possible gamer types.
you can be a useful corp member early on
we went on a roam a load of us newbs, my toon was about 2-3 months old at that point.. we engaged and took out some targets. I also played suicide tackler for a while, i still felt useful then... yer theres this several year old pilot in front of you.. but yes, i can still upset you by tackling you so my friends can get some damage on
we also ended up at war with other corps... granted when solo and caught unaware i lost.. badly... but it was hella fun...
trying to get on with basic tasks while keeping an eye on chat and watching out for incoming bad guys was a lot of fun

Hmmm ... interesting read. I started in 2005 as well. PCU was below 10k back then ... mostly about 6k. Anyway, EVE is heavy on player skill. The difference in character skills and gear augment the difference in player skill, but they do neve close the gap. A clever player has a considerable chance to take down a better equiped opponent. This is not true in many othere MMORPG games.
It seems quit funny that different people with about the same time invested in the game describe two entirely different games.
