I was actually  more excited after watching the stream than I was any time before that.  I think it looks better than I expected and I look forward to giving it a whirl.  I don't think anyone can have a worthy opinion until the game actually launches anyway.  Who complains about a game that's not even released yet... give it a fair shot and some time.

    No bitchers.

He probably won't answer you or will be very brief and give a canned response since MMORPG.com will be relying on ad revenue when the game gets to that point.  It's just the nature of the business world and the current way our society works.

I doubt it is a case of that. Remember he did a PREVIEW not a REVIEW these two things are looked upon in a different manner. Previews are just that they preview it for others to see and judge for themsevles seen as the build is so early almost everything can change. This is why Preview rarely have any negatives put on them. I am sure once release is here then a full review will be done with the pro's and con's.

PROS: Combat, Character Creation, God that lovely, deep UI.

CONS: Limited classes, not sure I like the "pets/companions" being combat allies, stability (it crashed and voip was not stable).

All of those Suzie and I mentioned in different articles today as well.

Worries for the future? What is there to do at the cap? How deep and well-used will the Foundry be? How long will we wait for new classes, and races? What will monetization be?

That said, it's still a fun game. Plainly, and simply. And it won't stop being fun even if my cons aren't addressed.  It'll be flawed, but still fun.

One thing I wish I didn't have to keep repeating on these forums and in articles? The community staff and the editorial staff, BOTH have nothing to do with advertising at all.  The owners of the site handle all of that.  We make a concerted effort to keep it separate so we can be honest with our takes on games.  Everyone forgets the time Earthrise came out and we had a review blasting its poor craftsmanship, right alongside full-page ads. Our owners defended us and our write to voice our opinions when the marketing team from Earthrise went to them complaining.

Advertising and the people buying ads are the least of my worries.  They're the owners' headache, not mine.  I'm far more concerned with giving you open honest feedback on games.

Bill IMO you doing a great job, but continue to have fun doing your job.  We are all adults here if anyone have some doubt about a game don't buy it  just that simple.  You can't blame Bill and company.

I value MMORPG.com 's opinions. But they are opinions. That is it. One person's opinion will be entirely different from someone else.

I don't let reviews or previews prevent me from getting a game BECAUSE opinions may differ. Nothing is fact when it comes to video game reviews or previews. Even bugs, not every person will experience a bug as many others might.

tt also seems that most of the people posting in this thread or about the game in general know nothing of the game. People saying how they wont buy a game if its not f2p, when the game has been announced as a free to play games for almost a year or more now. Not every game is for every gamer. There are a ton of people out there who loved City of Heroes, who loved Champions, who loved Stark Trek Online. There are just as many who did not.

I myself like every game Cryptic has made.

    With that said ...

Yes the game will only launch wiht 5 classes and 2 of which are both fighters. It is possible they might get other classes out before launch but I doubt it. It is however  neverwinter (NOT NEVERWINTER NIGHTS). While the nwn games were based off the d20 system and had a lot of dnd like mechanics the game was still not a true dnd game. It became even more so in nwn2.

Im not happy that Neverwinter doesn't have my favorite classes, nor are the classes open ended like a dnd game. Sure I don't like it but that isn't what the game is really about. The game is based on combat. Where other dnd games were not solely about combat. This game is.

My biggest issue with the game currently which I have said in other posts on this site is that Cleric is not a true cleric. They arent using heavy armor and dont have a mace and shield like a true cleric shield. Instead they are a ranged class. But I know with how they are doing things that they will have more classes later. Several fighters , several clerics, several rogues, and several wizards. They will also most likely get rangers, barbarians, monks, sorcerrors, bards, and druids at some point. Maybe more unique stuff like Prestige Classes. There are endless possiblities with how the game is being developed.

The game has open zones but a DND game is about delving into dungeons and that is exactly what Neverwinter is all about.

As for the foundry. The other cryptic games have great content generates and they have only had time to learn and improve their engine and their process. This game will be a great game in MY OPINION. But thats MY opinion.

    I never played STO.

When people said instanced I assumed that meant zoned off areas where it was not an entire open world.

Do you mean you sit in one town and just portal to an instance some where?

If that is the case I will be sorely disappointed.

That reminds me of sitting in Stormwind and just queuing for LFD?

    Very boring in my opinion.

I'm confused as to why the majority of people are so upset that there are only five classes on launch considering what little to no experience anyone has with the ones Cryptic is going with. Considering most games of this type-Vindictus, Dragon's Nest, etc, etc, started out with less and were no where near as ambitious...

Pets aka Companions on the other hand is something I can't say I'm fond of but I have nothing to lose besides time trying it out.

Im not going to say something that may or may not be true but as for STO you have zones you can explore but when going to another zone you get a loading screen, when you enter a mission you get loading screens.. it actually creates an instance unique to you.

the game is not a tera and wow rip off, matter of fact the Forgotten realms are far older than either of them its just that the devs working on Neverwinter are avid fans of the forgotten realms. It only makes sense that Cryptic created this game as Zeke and the others are all fans of the Forgotten Realms genre. Frankly your trolling of neverwinter bites of hate and discrimination rather than any true content.  true Cryptic has not had alot of real improvements on STo, but the game is three years old and they have added content. They have not worked on KDF all that much and yes players are up in arms over it. But if you look at the STO page and do your checking they have a massive conent update planned for May 2013. It screams a possible romulan based faction.

Now This Audacity you speak of is rediculous. They garnered Wiards of the Coasts support and even consulted with WotC in the developement of the game. I dont see why you are so intent on slamming a game you havent even played yet. Its not a wow clone.. if anything Blizzard got many of thier ideas for Warcraft  from D&D, thats pretty common knowledge. so which is the clone? sure Blizzard developed WoW back in 2004 and Neverwinter is being released hopefully this year.

However Neverwinter is in its own right a game on its own. its not open world, its instanced. its not spam the same button over and over.. its more indepth than that. Its not tab targetting, you actually have to pay attention. yes itll have a cash shop.. but thats how games are coming along nowadays. Will it be P2W? probably not considering what was said in the different press beta events ive watched. but that is subject to change. as are most things about any game.

Comparing Neverwinter to WoW is comical at bst as they are worlds and years apart in story developement. The devs stated ardently that neverwinter will remain true to the Forgotten Realms lore, so we can expect full rich story conent. The devs stated more classes are coming including an archer class.. should be interesting. The foundry alone will make the game unique in that it directly affects the instancing daily.

As for hacking and slashing for 20+ rounds.. its an MMORPG arent you being a little too critical? its not a turn based game.

    ?????????? rofl

    Ahem, ok moving on......

Look guys don't take my word for it. Plenty of people streaming the game right now.

Watch live video from directory on www.twitch.tv

Feel free to tell me how unique and unfamiliar the game is after watching a couple hours. And feel free to take note of the deep D&D feel this game has. Have a gander^^

rofl all you want the facts are simple you are basing your opinion on what? a few hours of game play videos that the devs ran with various press people? I watched the game footage like most others and in my opinion its not WoW.. the dungeons are just that dungeons. the cities looked huge and were populated. not with camping players but NPC's now of course that could change as there are going to be alot of players sitting around showing off gear or just afk.

Combat was sweet, you had to have position, randge, get the heck outta the way, with nice aoe effects and the daily abilities looked kewl. I especially like the trickster rogues leap Stab ability.. so funny to see a dwarf jump 4 feet straight up to stab the enemy in the head.

the dungeon looked great.. no sci fi BS in them, they looked down right dungeony. the mini bosses put up a stiff fight but the last boss really gave the impression of barely controlled chaos. And the end game dungeons will be alot harder.. then at max level you can run the dungeons in a harder mode. Kinda like heroic. Then you have the puzzles, traps, secret rooms, chests, and end dungeon reward to take into consideration.. its not just a romp in dungeon and down the boss. theres other things to do in the dungeons.

without playing the game you are making a biased opinion. seems very silly to me. personally i dont care if you play or not, but dont feed misinformation as it has no basis in fact.

As long as it does dungeons good. That's what it's all about even if it isn't as good as the PnP version or other offline single player D&D games. It should be about groups and classes working together but wouldn't surprise me if dungeons are soloable like in DDO. It's going to be an ok game but not something really awesome. Kind of like what DDO was.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

Dunno about dngeons being soloable i just know that for the most part youd have to be many levels above the level of the dungeon to solo it as the last fight in the first dungeon was chaotic with over 20 adds involved..

not necessarily. all the classes have a ranged attack in the case of the trickster he can throw knives, the guardians charge the target and the cleric well t was just bad ***. the Wizard will be a control freak, and the greatweapons warrior will probably have a leap attack or some such. so having a archer class isnt really a requirement at the beginning.

That said, I respectfully request that cryptic change the name of this game to "Plungeons and Plagons" or "Severwinter" or some combination of the two, in an attempt to accurately portray the game and not mislead true D&D fans.

Someone would have to be a retarded monkey to get misled.  This game has trumpeted the action MMO card from day 1... Plus it's CRYPTIC. Cryptic isn't going to make some complicated super deep dice-roll game, that's like the opposite of what they are good at.  Anyone with two brain cells to rub together knew it was going to be a loose representation of a D&d rule set  with  A Forgotten Realms backdrop.

Yep and the D&D fans have a right to run the game into the ground for using a well known name for cash grabbing purposes.

Do we all really have to do this dance every time a new game releases? People give negative opinions on a game, fanboys use the "it's not released to most people and you can't know from videos." Then beta is released and the fanboys say "it's just beta." Then launch "let them iron out the issues." 1 month "it's only been a month." Then "It's only been 6 months." Then "Hey 2k people are gold members the game must be good and therefore you're wrong."

Honestly guys just take the critism, it's only going to get worse from here.

I shall gladly take criticism on a VIDEO GAME when it is offerered. Simply stating "THIS IS THE WORST GAME EVER!!!!" is in no way criticism. I'm not saying you in particular, but I'm sure you've seen more than enough examples on these forums.

If you guys are getting your information from Alpha Testers or are Alpha Testers yourselves, I do remind you that there is such a thing as a Nondisclosure Agreement that you click I Agree to test the game. Clicking I Agree enters you into a legally binding contract with Cryptic and PWE. Talking about the game here without the express permission of them is a clear violation of an industry standard NDA.

So in summary, (1) provide actual criticism with evidence and (2) stop speculating or violating a legally binding contract. Thank you for hopefully becoming rational human beings (both "trolls" and "fanbois")

you have to keep in mind this is forgotten realms based so yes clerics can be casters then there are the plate wearing clerics.. it was all based on the diety you chose to follow. they all had restrictions and benefits.

dev stated that s in the works they didnt want to release everything all at once.. saving for future content release.

Soooooooooooo we release two fighters instead of a ranged DPS.

not necessarily. all the classes have a secondary arcade ranged attack in the case of the trickster he can throw knives, the guardians charge the target and the cleric well t was just bad ***. the Wizard will be a control freak, and the greatweapons warrior will probably have a leap attack or some such. so having a archer class isnt really a requirement at the beginning.

    Fixed.

20 years of PnP D&D under my belt, throwing knives probably at the bottom of the list of used attacks, right below throwing axe.  Simply bad design to have throwing knives as your ranged attack.

    That's not D&D, that's Street Fighter.

How many classes do you need?  STO has 3, oh wait you guys hate that game and by proxy this one because Cryptic also made it.  EVE has one class that can do anything and probably less content than STO.

If it's because it's free to play with an OPTIONAL cash shop that will most likely have a way to earn Zen in game, ...

It has not release yet.  Prejudging at this point is just stupid.

i am with you that throwing knives arent my thing but when you think about it rogues use throwing knives in Forgotten realms. it part of the mythos. so i suppose the devs are trying to stay true to the lore. take into case the two most well known rogues in forgotten realms:

Jarl'Axle and Artemis Entrari.. they both used dagers and both threw them.
