So how big is the land really?

I'm a little confused as to how big this game really is.

Are we talking Vanguard-sized world or WoW-sized zones? Will distant places feel distant?

Best answer is huge... Difference from most others is the lack of invisible walls, you can climb, glide, swim every inch of the map.

Right now, if you look at the world map linked above, it takes about 20 or so minutes of sailing in one of the faster ships to traverse the ocean from the mid-western coast ("Lost Ocean") of the Eastern Continent to the southern horn of the Northern Continent with many islands and even a Kraken in between!

It is definitely a very vast and epic world to explore :)

(FYI: currently, islands are not shown on the map and game terms are not final for the English release - www.archeage.com/en is not the official website for ArcheAge in the west and is managed by XLGames not Trion, official game details and information will be published on www.archeagegame.com in the future!)

Also keep in mind that the whole of the ocean floor is also explorable.

Thats a good point, theres a whole continent worth of space under the water.

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

Sunken treasure chests to find, lost cargoes from player ships, underwater farms to place and harvest. Uncharted islands to find and claim, some just to farm, some to build a house at.  The Kraken world Boss, numerous lesser foes, other players shipping, all waiting to be found and fought.

Yes, the ocean is as integral to play as any of the continents. :D

I've been playing for a while and i traveled to every region including the northern continent in this game. The world map is huge but only a little part of the three continents are released right now in Korean retail version. There will be updates every month (medium sized update every month, large update every three month) and they will release a few more region every month. When the game reaches other countries outside Korea, the continents will have more regions to explore.

There are 3 continents with quite a lot of islands in the middle of the ocean. West and East continents are the starting area for players and they have safe zones where you can't have wars and unprotected zones where each faction can start a war. You can build houses on every region of the map but the housing  zones in each region is not that big. (adding all the housing area is huge tho) In other words housing zones in Western and Eastern continents are restricted to certain areas. But in Northern continent where there is no law, if a guild claims land, you can build houses in any area you want. Ofcourse it won't be safe. Guild master can set the weekly tax fees (maximum of 50% more than safezone taxes). If another guild wants to take over that land you have to start a war and win it (it's not implemented yet but it'll be soon. I heard the castle pvp will be 50 vs 50 max and you will need special raid mob item to declare war if you are the attacking side)

Right now the map size is definately smaller than WoW but once the regions are all released  it'll become bigger than WoW. Since there are still plenty of areas to be released, the housing area problems(where most of the areas on Western, Eastern continents are full) will be solved.

I'd think he knows that.  Being Trion's community manager and all.
