It's a more varied form of Paying to Win. Whatever really defines a Win in P2W? What the person is winning is not even really the important part here.

The important part is the amounts of irl cash that is being converterd into in game silver that is then used to purchase wares that are at outrageous prices. Purchasing these items at extream prices encourages those who are price gouging to continue to do so and gives them the reason to increase prices on stuff that is only slightly better..

Another thing I keep hearing. Gear doesn't matter.. That is true to an extent but gear is not useless by any means. It adds to hit points it adds to internal points. It adds to damage done and damage reduction. Gear matters.. Skill comes into play when perfoming combat moves properly and "out skilling" a opponnet.

If gear didn't matter then it would not change any stats and you wouldn't see people running around in gear thats all for their school stats and you wouldn't see how some of these players moves are able to kill others in a matter of seconds. Thats' not even the argument here but when I see that, it makes me laugh that people try to convince themselves that things like this do not have an effect on the outcome of fights.

The Paying to Win comes in the form of having to spend more and more just to be on the level playing field with the richest of the rich players. They will have much better gear than you and they will have skills from schools and the Jianghu ones that just makes them seem even more powered by the amounts of money they have put into the game.

They aren't the only player in the realm so of course it's not an absolute shutdwon the server win, but if you are ahead in the race you are currently winning.. amirite?

You are intentionally being dense with your argument now... You could spend a million dollars and it wont make a difference. Wait I lied you'll WOULD have been 2 weeks ahead.

Thats a pretty HUGE advantage for some people, since the P2W people can pay and play they will always be at least 2 weeks ahead of players that play every min they can.

Thing is, if your going to call Age of Wushu P2W, then you need to say that GW2 is P2W as well as it has the same type of system in place, and in an even stronger form due to the fact you can basically trade for the best gear and gold having a big value in WvW for seige items to boost your ability to perform.

Basically, if your going to call Age of Wushu P2W, your going have to claim other games are P2W as well, and in that form just how much 'P2W' they are will depend greatly on what the user views P2W as.

Sorry, GW2 is not - the items in the cash shop are cosmetic.. Sure you can buy XP boost tiems but you can also make them and get them easily other ways. So, GW2 is not P2W.

Don't know anything about AoW and basically reading all the threads, don't care to. The game sounds more like a job than fun to me.

Sorry to say it but any game that allows the players to buy an advantage over other players with real life money would be a p2w game set-up by the sheer fact you will now have an advantage over any other equally skilled/advanced player bought with rl money. Even if that advantage can be over come by other more skilled players, or by spending time in game to off-set it, you are still giving players an advantage over other players at a rl price.

I mean if you have two equally skilled players in the game pvp against  each other, than they will have largely an equal chance of winning. Yet in this aow's set  up the same two equally skilled players would have differentt chances of winning based on which one paid to gain gear an skills faster, and so now has a tangable advantage over the other player till they choose to pay to equalize that difference, or the paying pvper reaches the cap an the non-paying pvper catches up (which could take weeks.). Yet this is not a like other games where you literally pay to gain the  best gear, and suuch via money, but it is still pay to win by the fact you are paying to gain a advantage over other players (even if this advantage is largely able to be off-set by the difference in skill between two players.).

No, they will not always be two weeks ahead. Skills are capped. That's why I said " WOULD HAVE been." Spend all you want, you might be able to hit cap 2 weeks before the other guy, but in two weeks the other guy will be at the same cap.

Botrytis.. you cant even buy xp boost in AoW cashop. The systems they run are almost identical. Replace the word gold with gems and wahla.

I do feel it's easier to make money in AoW than GW2 though. Imo it's easier to make money in AoW because professions are profitable at all levels.

    An example:
I dueled a friend of mine this week. Both characters are from the same school. His character is all decked out with higher internal and fighting skills, upgraded armor/weapons, while mine is not. Still I won every single duel against him.

AOW combat system has way more to do with knowing how to counter your opponent's attack or defense skills, when to block, when to get out of the way, timing of your flying or combat skills, than with who has the most shinies.

I think non AOW players, when watching videos of the duels, might assume it's just button smashing, when it's not, because it's what we all are used to from so many other games.

Sadly, I have experienced P2W games, but this surely isn't one of them.

Us, who enjoy the game, can give examples, or state facts till the cows come home. It won't stop the trolls from insisting this is a P2W themepark with undercover snail employees and all that other nonsense.

I mean look at the last response I've received. That guy, in his desperate attempt to make a point, is now having conversations with himself lol

Whatever positive things we state here is like catnip to the naysayers.

Yeah, that last comment about the Japanese game just killed me. I really hope they're trolls and not 12 year olds for real.

This thread proves how big of a cesspool this site is.

I just hope it lasts. I still see closed beta signup on the euro site. I remember another game from that stable that was just great in closed and later open beta. The people in charge are in charge of making money, and that's just what they'll do, no matter what they have to do to the game or the cash shop to make it happen.

Your claim may have some truth to it now, but how long will that last? Enjoy the ride while you can. Fool me once...

Ok maybe u can say that it is not P2W, but at least it is still a sub game where u need to pay around 10USD monthly for VIP status. 10USD=30gold=1 month VIP

nonvip only source of unbound silver is from selling stuff and have 70% culti pts of what a VIP has. So i would call it a sub mmo.

Dont talk about kidnapping for non-vip if u havent tried so. non-vip kidnap fees are capped to 1L per selling!

non-vip have 30% of their culti pts put into escrow and only touchable thru gold not unbound silver.

Yeah, it's a sub game with a limited trial (will be unlimited after launch) and a cs.

Personally I see nothing wrong with that, I prefer paying a sub and get full access to having to constantly shell out $ for content, gear unlocks, classes, skills, and whatever like in most ftp games.

If I want faster leveling for a while I can pay some extra but it's not mandatory.

No they changed it, 1L for non VIP.  At first I was getting between 8-10 L per kidnap, then one day that stopped and I was only getting 1 L or less, I was wondering what happened and checked the forums and others noticed it also. I am VIP now so they might have changed it back, that was 2 weeks ago.

limit for non vip was and always will be 32, You just have to learn how to handle black market

Well there was a few days where the max I got was 1L ( on 3 different characters and many different places ). Maybe it was a bug but it changed when i went VIP.

If someone is willing to pay 100 dollars to have a gear that everyone can get the EXACTLY same gear in a few days of playng.

Oh and that days he had ahead wont guarantee any win at all - far from it.

Yes he is payng , but tell me where the hell is he WINNING?

Umm all P2W MMOS use same model. All the armor, weapons etc  that you can buy in the cash shop can also be acquired by playing but it takes longer and usually comes with huge grind. So why is it ok to call those MMO P2W but not AOW?

I've played this game a lot in the last month. In my opinion, it is pay to win. The OP makes a point about the gear and yes, you can get the gear eventually by grinding, but it takes forever. Each piece of gear is around 100-500 Liang. You get 15-50 Liang from kidnapping which is capped at a once and hour limit. So to get the 14 or so pieces, it would approxiamtely take you 140 kidnaps. Keep in mind that the P2Wers who are just buying gold can purchase this gear instantly. So by the time you are fully geared, they will likely be instant buying the next tier. And this whole theory about it doesn't make a difference in attack is not correct. It does.

Additionally, he fails to acknowledge the real source of PTW. Only people with very large amounts of silver can purchase the overpowered skills from the auction house. There is one skill that completely heals you full by swapping your magic and health bars. There's another that refills your magic. And yet another that helps you build "rage" for your big hitter much, much faster than others do. These skills are selling for around 5000-10000 Liang each. If you want them, you would have to kidnap 300 times or so. And keep in mind you can only do it once an hour. So even if you do it 15 times a day, it would take you 20 days to get one of these needed skills. And I just put down the big 3...there's about 10 skills you really need.

I PVP a lot. In every game. Never in a game have I felt so singled out and disadvantaged as in this game. At one point I was screaming at the monitor last night as the same guy killed me for the 3rd night in a row as I tried to script steal. Script stealing is a once a day event lasting 30 minutes where you can try to grab a script and run all the way out of a zones map before being killed. Imagine trying to steal something from Stormwind and having to run to Duskwood to be safe all the while being attacked by anyone who doesn't have a script strapped to the back. Because I have such ugly gear and no survivability skills, other players know I am an easy kill.

I must admit, I like this game a lot. It's challenging, engaging, and requires you to group or guild up. I don't really mind the grind as much as I hate losing day after day to the same players who just hit their OP buttons which I have no access to get. I've tried crafting, gathering, kidnapping, and many other means possible to try and make more money, but it doesn't come close to the amount you would need to remain competitive. It's too bad, but I'm really leaning towards quitting.

So in summary, this game is P2W. Even the OP admits it gives you an advantage. Many people try to justify that you can be competitive without paying. I agree, if you want to dedicate your life to this game.

Nah, all you just have proved you are not very good at making money and getting gear.

The game is heavily level and gear dependent just like all themeparks but there is no P2W, that would be silly to say.

coz dumb ppl agree to pay for overpriced items? go play in russian version, prices are few times cheaper there yet You have same game, in chinese version 2nd lvl of few "flying" skills cost only 5L so how game is P2W?

I made 5d from script steal the other night, Hellwind. I've probaly made 10-12D total from  scripts, and another 3d from from robbing escorts and selling the goods. Another 1-2D from blacksmithing.

Making unbound silver should not be a problem for anyone, as long they do SOMEthing. They wont get it sitting around.

My issue is making bound silver, the npc/pve stuff. I never have more than 4-500L.

Maybe you were the guy who killed me three nights in a row. Making silver is a problem. At least enough to pay for things you need like gear or the needed skills. I constantly kidnapped, dungeon run, script stole, and played a lot for about a month. I never spent a penny and never had more than 600L.

The silver coins npc/stuff is a joke to get. You're kidding right? You just have to spy and you get a like 150L each time you spy (which you should be doing the weekly if you ever expect to progress end game).
