I'm slowly upgrading this old computer, starting with the video card (it's already preventing me from playing some of the games I want to play).
I currently have:
Asus M4A77TD motherboard
Athlon II X2 240
2GB RAM
GeForce 7800 GT
500W PSU
Windows XP
I plan on getting new CPU, mobo, memory, and OS later, but that will have to be all at once.
Needless to say, I'm used to some pretty low-res gaming with the 7800 GT. I'm leaning toward the GeForce GTX550 Ti, if I can find one for under a hundred bucks. But I'd go with a lower end card if the savings was worth it. I don't do a hell of a lot of gaming anymore, but I'd like to try out some of the newer games even if I have to turn down the eye candy.

Thats a 7770. Its just a little over $100 but worth the extra $10-20 bucks. Should let you play pretty much every game, just not at max settings.
A GDDR5 version of a Radeon HD 7750 is probably the best you'll find for $100 or less.

A GeForce GTX 650 is about as good. A Radeon HD 7770 is better, but tends to be a little over your budget.
The older Radeon HD 5770/6770 and GeForce GTX 550 Ti are about as good as the Radeon HD 7750 and GeForce GTX 650, but the older cards will use more power. The GTX 550 Ti mismatches the memory channels, too, so you can only get the full memory bandwidth up to 768 MB of memory, not the full 1 GB.
7770 is a great card with some OC room. you can find them for the 115 range too

Purchased that one very recently and no gripes about it what so ever. Replaced a Zotac 9800 GT eco. It runs cool. Very low noise. I was wondering what the difference is between it and MSI one that was posted and why that person didn't mention this one. Core clocks are the same. Effective memory clocks are different. I assume they just played with the numbers differently considering both are GDDR 5? Just curious. Thought about mentioning it after Quiz posted and brought up 7770's. But it doesn't come in at $100 until after the rebate.
