Having trouble making money in the game. Advice?

Hey so here I am having a hell of a time trying to make unbound silver in AoW. Bound silver is too easy and I have a boatload of.

I mean there aren't that many ways to begin -  financially wise - with tradeable silver in this game without shelling out money for the average dumbass like me. I've got it my day all planned out, and in my brain it comes out fine but I end up with my pockets empty averaging 1-2L A DAY??!

My main problem consists of  splurging on random pieces of stuff I don't even need, like a hair ornament, gazhou green material (FOR WHAT?), and a low end 8 dmg claw. In my head I'm thinking I'm going to resell the claw for a good value! But it never happens. I can list several reasons and I will.

a) Chengdu is overpopulated and my stall is like a needle in a goddamn haystack. Even if all I do and gather mats, I can't sell them - I am in no position to compete with Asian farmers and their below the belt pricing. I end up with 0 sales on a daily basis.

b) apparently people only want high end gear and books and skills now.

Aside from that the activites that I do on a daily basis net me around 2L per activity. I must be doing something wrong. Let's see I go kidnap a person even a one with nature dude and the tea shop owner gives me 25L...but wait! Only 2L in unbound silver. Damn.

So I go and farm mats all day and try to sell that but Chengdu is asia farmer territory and other cities are deadzones.

And what else is there to do? I can't bounty hunt since Im low lvl, and I can't rob carts because I'm low fking level. This or...buy the silver. Those are the only 3 options Im seeing people. Any help? Thanks.

Somebody, somewhere has better skills as you have, more experience as you have, is smarter than you, has more friends as you do and can stay online longer. Just pray he's not out to get you.

Join me in pillaging and robbing those filthy guilds of their precious escorts. If not I just sell my stuff in Jiming or Luoyang, half the time I can barley even set up a stall in Chengdu due to its over population.

    Get out of Chengdu.

    Kidnap low-level chars.

    Learn a craft.

    Join a guild.

    Do escorts.

Do instances for flying skill books.

Im a lvl.6 Tailor and have a Poisonmaker in my Guild with same lvl.

I got all Copper Recipes except Top.

Every Day i craft 10-12 Armor Pieces to get 3 with 54 Def.Rest is 37er Crap.

Its cost me 150-180 from my 360 Daylie Bound Silver and 300-360 Vigor.

With the 3 54er Pieces i go to my Poisonmaker and make the first upgrade.

All Pieces <+18 Defence will be disassemble.

Second Upgrade is realy random..u get Crap like Tai Chi with +10 Balance or good Stats like Yang and Harder +11 Brawn.

If i get lucky and got +20Def/Ying and Softness +11 Breath, then i make the 3. and 4. upgrade.

This Armor i can sell now 4 700-1000 Liang, -200 Liang 4 my Poisonmaker.

For a good one I need mostly 15 attempts, so every 5 days.

Its a lot of Work because u need to make the Xuawen Satin and Fine Spun Cloth too.

Easist Way to unbound Silver is Script robbing Event.

If you're lucky and get the Wudang Flying Horse Basic Script,u can sell it 4 5Ding.^^

Kidnapping is based off time offline not power of the character, so chengdu is a bad spot unless you are grabbing people from way out on the fringe that no one else bothered.

Chengdu is great for seeing what people need, just press V and browse some stalls..... silk going for 400 wen a pop? Monkey skins for 500? Ox bone for 400? Ok well I know a few things that can get me a liang or thirty. But it changes all the time, I use to make good money off of monkey skins but then for weeks the market was flooded. So now I am not telling ANYONE what I make my money farming.

Once you have a decent amount of liang you can often turn around good deals on people clearing out inventory room, bought an RG skill book for 40 liang and sold it for 80. Yea it was a small 40 liang profit but it required a very small amount of effort.

Learn what the upgrade materials require, poison stones and medicine cloth, and that tailor cloth...they do not go for what they once did but they do go for something. Low level tailors can still make money just farming silk and processing it, you just have to find the buyer who needs it in bulk. It only takes up one inventory slot for a ton of farmed silk to it should be easy enough to hold on to until you can price it right.

Watch out for skills, they are going down. Some people tried to hold on to step because they couldn't get 400 liang and now they can not get 200 liang for it, I imagine people holding onto goose overly long at 1.4 ding will have a similar problem as the population goes up and the price goes down.

Wait, don't buy something because it is there. If one person has it another will have it next week. One person wanted 800 Liang for an RG skill, I offered 300 he laughed and said no. Two weeks later I bought that skill for 200L off of him. Do not even know if he knew it was the same person he said no to weeks before but just because something THINKS they can get x amount of money off a skill doesn't mean they will not be sitting on it for weeks on end trying to do so.

edit: If you are VIP make sure you log off somewhere with jobs available, otherwise you will not get that 50 liang of offline work liang.

What? Are you telling me they want us to spend MONEY on the game?

And I thought Snail was a non-profit organization giving away their game for free! You've really opened my eyes here!

Elmintzer's point is of course that the OP's stuggle for money is a feature of the game rather than a result of him not doing it right. Even staunch defenders of AoW admit it has P2Winny aspect to it.

If you're not VIP, your best bet would be take part in script stealing events and sell whatever you find. If you're lucky, one day you'll get something valuable. But I agree, there arent many ways to make money. And prices are insane, at least on russian server

I have more in-game money than I need and the only real money I've ever spent is for the Deluxe package back in December (basically a sub fee). Never had any issues earning unbound silver, so I guess I'm doing something right then.

But of course the game is geared towards people spending money - that was the whole point of my sarcastic post above. It's free to play and the money's got to come from somewhere. I would have prefered a p2p model myself but sadly those days are gone and f2p/b2p + CS is the reality of MMO gaming.

I'm the first to admit a CS like this one needs to be run in a very careful way, but if you have issues with the current model you will have issues with most if not all MMOs with a CS. Those screaming ptw here are mostly people who have a limited understanding of how Wushu works and how useless it is to try and dominate by spending money in this game.

What people see as pay to win, i.e. rl money for gold - gold for cultivation or unbound silver, is actually pay for convenience. The only thing you'll "win" is the battle for your own time. There is no way to insta-buy yourself a God character  since you can't just stand around cultivating 24/7, you need the EXP which can't be bought but must be earned by playing the game. All the good gear and skills can easily be obtained in game through normal gameplay (no insane grind required).

Not saying the current state of affairs will prevail though, things could change towards straight up PTW (CS exclusive power items/skills) and then most players will probably leave and the game will see a rapid decline. I think Snail realizes this though, as they have been very open about not wanting the ptw label.
