Not true in the e-sports game like SC2, or LOL, or even WOT. You can chat with anyone.

But they aren't MMO's, the thread is about MMO's as per its title, please try not to derail.

I get the impresion that DEV are catering most MMO games now to the pvp crowd.

    Am I wrong?

I could not care less for pvp then I currently do. PvE is only world I'm interested in. I was also always kind of person that will help any player in trouble with pve world, does not matter if "opposite faction" and not to jump on his troath when alredy half dead from pve fight.

So what are these pvp centric mmorpgs ? I would love to try them.

I'm still trying to figure that out.  I asked about that earlier in the thread and didn't get much of an answer.  According to this site's game list, there have been about 250 games released since Jan 2008.  Of those which ones force PvP on the players... the only answer given was Aion.  That's 0.4% of the population.

How can anyone complain when they own 99% of the market share?

Eve Online has forced PvP.  Darkfall is forced PvP so is Mortal Online, Archeage seems like it will be (sad to say, otherwise I'd play it in a heartbeat), Age of Wushu/Wulin is forced PvP, and many games have PvP servers.

Personally, I'm not interested in either getting ganked all the time when out in the open world or having to run around with 20 people everywhere I go to not get ganked, so these games don't remotely appeal to me even though I love being able to go to an area with large scale PvP if and when I choose to.

From the poll results so far, it seems that PvP players are just a vocal minority. Glad to hear it tbh. I always feel i get a lot of crap for being a purely pve player.

Ok.  We're up to 3 games now.  Archeage doesn't count because it hasn't been released.

Eve was released 10 years ago.  I looking for games in the past 5 years.

    We're at 1.2% PvP vs 98.8% PvE.

I'm curious whether PvP can break 5%.

I agree PvPers get the short end of the stick when it comes to MMOs.  One reason why is we are a minority that is subdivided into smaller groups.  And those groups are often hostile to each other.

Like full open world versus restricted areas and every category of that in between.  Like large scale versus small scale PvP, and solo versus group (this one is a big deal when these two are mixed because of what premades do to randoms).

We are divided further by the things that divide other gamers, like sub-genre (fantasy, sci-fi, other).  So yeah, we don't have as much voice as pure PVE players.  And I believe our content is much harder and more costly to develop and maintain than your average dungeon grind for shinies PVE content.

Eve online doesn't really have "forced pvp", its possible to avoid pvp if you build smart and stick to high sec.

Forced pvp in last 5 years - aion, planetside 2, darkfall, mortal online can't think of any others.

Forced to grind out linear stale boring as hell pve though - bloody loads of them.

This site hardly counts as average mmo gamers. Lots of grumpy ex EQ, swg etc.. players here wanting a hard pve game.

I'll grant you that, Eve is a unique duck.  There are some who don't even risk that much PvP because they never leave station!  But from what I gathered during the admittedly short time I played there is a lot of content players who aren't interested in PvP will never see and a lot of things they'll never be able to do.

    Planetside 2... good catch.

That brings us up to 1.6% PvP vs 98.4% PvE.

Calling that 'forced PVP' is like saying Monopoly has forced dice rolling.

I almost always focus on PvE, I have never in all my years ganked anyone. I like questing and lore if its good. PvP is something that I sometimes indulge in. I loved Wintergrasp and WvW in GW2 is awesome, but thats about it. Ive stopped trying to play on PvP servers ages ago.

I'm no math teacher, but it looks like 57% to 8% dude. I did get a good laugh out of the washington politics style poll reading though. I love PvP, but a good PvP game hasn't come out in years, hopefully this one will make up for it. Thanks :)

    Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV
    Have played: You name it

True, but I think you would agree that if he had said that strictly PvP players are a vocal minority, that would be true but not very enlightening (Did anyone in mmorpg history ever think that strict PvP'ers were the bulk of the fans of the genre?). But a significant number do both. And if the poll question was, "Would you play a mmorpg that was strictly PvE?" I think we would see a much different result.

They should be playing TSW.  That game is fantastic for folks who like challenging and meaningful PvE.

PvE only, as MMO's these days make absolutely horrible PvP content in the game these days in my opinion. The last MMO game were I sort of enjoyed PvP was Warhammer Online, but that game is centered around PvP and not PvE.

Give ps2 a try, a decent try the first hour or so is hard.

I liked wars pvp a lot better than recent games (well until bioware broke it with 1.4), but I like ps2 more. If you played gw2 and thought "fun at the begining but lacks rivalry for long term fun" you might find whats missing from joining a ps2 guild.

    @  RefMinor.

    Actualy.

    pvp 8.8%

The rest are those who prefer pve 57.1%

And those who like pve and pvp in mix are 29.9.

So 8.8% hardcore pvpers are most vocal in whole, compared to pve community.

If you mix first and third option? then do me a favor and count second and third together as well.

I simply added those who liked PvP and compared them to those who like no PvP

Then, you have to split third option and add one half to pve the other half to pvp, that at least would be fair count.

Most PvP players also like to have PvE in their game. Every person who picked "both" likes PvP not half of them. 43% of the poll like PvP in their game and 57% like no PvP, it's fairly simple
