Excellent choice in Trion, I think.  Although I'm not currently playing Rift, I did play betas and early release and was extremely impressed by the polish and high quality of customer service.

I've had my eye on ArcheAge for some time now, and this is another reason to hold my interest.

Trion is one of the few, if not the only, western mmo publishers that I trust and respect, I had not expected Archeage to be published by them. It gives me even more hope it's success. Can't wait.

That other game they're working on Defiance isn't out yet.

Crytek's Warface (which they're publishing) isn't out yet.

They don't really have an outstanding record as a publisher.

They really support their game and the community. From a gamer's perspective, what more could you ask for?

How have they really supported their game and community?  They pumped out content at a good pace for the first 18 months, then xpac, and now few months later?  Unless they can match their first 18 month pace then they were full of a lot of hot air and marketing bull.  So far they're not on pace.

The fact is they don't have an outsanding record as a publisher.  I can see being excited that EA isn't the publisher, but that's different than throwing accolades at Trion where they haven't earned them yet.

So you're saying that they've been slacking in the last six months in terms of updates to the game? They've patched the game over 50 times, and have made significant changes to the game 10 times. They're already gearing up for 2.2. This is all while developing and preparing for a major expansion.

What do you want from them? A reacharound and a sandwich after?

god I know right, some people are just sick and messed up in the head and cant stand when others are happy, 98% of the thead is all positive and then you have these 2 ..

I think you should do everyone a favor troublmaker, and Torvaldr and shut that hole in your face. do a lil reasrech and investiagate things before looking like morons.

If your not intrested in AA or Trion, then I sugest you move on..

On a lighter note, I am very happy Trion has picked up AA, could not ask for a better company :)

And those are the guys who i dont party with, those who belive they know all. To be hardcore does not exclude you to enjoy the little things, and specially when learning your character.

If you want to be one of the hivemind koolaid drinkers then be my guest.  You sound exactly like the GW2 hivemind from last summer.  Are we going to get your "why I quit" or "why I was wrong too" posts after your hype fails you?

Asking critical questions or questioning decisions should make you feel insecure at all unless there is something to actually worry about.  What are you worried about?

The problem with people that take your attitude is that you need everyone else to hoopla and dance too.  I never said I wasn't interested in ArcheAge or I thought Trion would fail.  I said Trion is unproven at this point and has mediocre success at best, with one major title.  As for Jake Song, I think he's one of the most brilliant designers in the genre.  Lineage was my first game and I can see a lot of his early design philosophies and ideas show up in ArcheAge.

Consider that and consider also that I'm not going to shut up so you can feel more cozy.  I'm not flaming and actually have points to my posts, unlike you.  Maybe you should consider that before you shoot your mouth off.

If you're very confident about your last sentence maybe you could tells us why you think XL couldn't ask for a better partnership.

I am so excited about this news, there's hope for an awesome sandbox yet!

    No bitchers.

  • CatibrieCatibrie Posts: 36Member Uncommon
My hope is they add a PvE server and also factions to the open world PvP. On faction servers I would like to see contested areas like in WoW. Please also areas where you have no need to worry about being attacked by players.

    Perfect solution, IMO.

How do you train someone used to theampark MMOs to play a Sandbox MMO without leading them so they feel fooled later when the guided game play poofs?

Sounds like great news! Trion has proved that they can do smooth game launches with Rift and are generally considered to have a favourable reputation with regards to customer service. Can't wait to hear who will be doing distribution in Europe, and more importantly if IP locking for regions will be in place. Yes, I am looking at you TERA, cause I hate you!
  • HatefullHatefull Posts: 774Member Uncommon

Trion is a triple A company with a sterling reputation.  I honestly would not have asked for a different publisher, were the decision mine to make.

This bodes well for the future of this game, and I for one am far more excited now than I was when I heard the game was going to release stateside.

    Great news all around.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

wow this is promising! I kinda lost interest in Rift, but still respect what they and Trion have done in a relatively short period of time.

LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity.
I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already :)

Im very happy that AA finaly come to west, Trion or not.

Now, i just hope they dont start with that bull**** of "westernizing" (whatever is spelled) and keep the game like it is (good or bad, no idea atm but have some hope for good)

I happy now but im guessing others have seen that its not pure sandox (which i'm glad for), but this seem (so far) to have the right blend/mixture)...

Seeing as this is still in beta and alot of mmo coming out this year, I think its best to position this to launch early next year.  No need to rush and that 30 lv tutorial can be over maybe within a day or two, depending on pacing (which i think is critical)...

  • craftseekercraftseeker kynetonPosts: 845Member Uncommon

Actually Torvaldr does play Rift and is very active on the Rift Forums and is known for his thoughtful and constructive posts there.

As for TRION, they are going through a period of upheaval at the moment with major changes to their customer service team. Extensive staff lay offs and Scott Hartsman (Original Executive Producer of Rift) leaving the company.

  • FallguyArmyFallguyArmy Davenport, FLPosts: 80Member
Trion this, Trion that. They first need to release the game and maintain it properly (i.e. avoid making ridiculous changes) and then maybe, just maybe, we'll give the praise they deserve. Maybe I'm just cynical after having so many overhyped games fall hard in the past years, and so all the more reason to be more cautious even if an upcoming title seems like it could potentially be successful.

May seem excessive to some but remember there are plenty of people that will probably need it since the MMORPG genre went down hill since WoW there aren't that many bright players these days.

It's nearly 4AM here and I literally  laughed out loud at this.  Sad but so true.  And too many of those "bright ones" are focused on getting to max level like yesterday.

"Flowers?  Chill and smell the flowers?  I DUN CARE bout no F'in flowers!!"  LOL

This is very good news, however I REALLY hope they don't "westernize" the game any further than translations. Pretty much all western (typically American) MMOs are aimed towards impatient little punters who want everything instanced and fed to them on a plate with as little player interaction as possible.

ArcheAge seems to be an MMO that is based around player interaction, which is what an MMO should be. Please don't cater the English version towards American players. If so, many gamers won't end up staying subscribed for longer than a month.

    _________
    Currently in casual mode!
    Playing: Few FPS games.

Watching: Albion Online: Summer alpha was great, but the game seems to be progressing towards heavy instancing.

Always hating on instances in MMOs! Open worlds, open PvP, territory control and housing please. More persistence, more fun.

i liked archeage since i saw the first beta videos. i thought it will be a nice surprise.

now with trion involved? its my new mmo hope.

i may played no more than 6 months rift but it was well enough to realise how serious they take their games and their player base.

now i m really on about it :)
