PoE F2P open beta coming in 30hours

tomato_kwantomato_kwan Member Posts: 44

If you miss the days playing diablo 2; if you got disappointed by diablo 3; if you are still looking for a decent mmo; if you need a temperary game before you find your "the next mmo", check this game out.

The OB is coming in ~30hours. F2P, with some non-game influenting microtransaction options.

(It's actually a soft release as there will be NO character wipe when it's officially released)

It has a VAST passive skill trees that allows unique builds. Even with simular keystones (major passive/game machanic changing passive), you can still choose if you wanna go more offensive or defensive.....heck you can even choose how to be defensive.

Combine that with a skill combo system (you dun "train" skills. You obtain "skill gems" and you can use them by putting them into item sockets), you can have different playstyle than the 937489327 other players you meet. It is how diablo 3 was supposed to be.

PoE is more diablo than diablo 3. It's F2P. Check it out -- it doesn't hurt -- and you will, very likely, like it.

Welcome aboard! The classes in POE are quite different than other games. Classes are mainly starting points of character types specializing in one of the 3 stats Int, Dex, Str.

All skills, being droppped loot, define really what type of class you want to play: A ranger will have quest rewards with arrow skills or dex abilities.

A witch will be rewarded with ice and fire abilities or int orientated auras.

The passive tree is composed of 1100+ passive skills which influence players stats/skills etc

Nothing prevents you from playing a Ice n fire shooting ranger, apart from the effectiveness that build will have when trying to tackle the harder content.

    Skill gems: http://www.pathofexile.com/skills

    Passive tree: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree

Respeccing is not an option(only very limited) so theory-crafting and experimentation is strongly encouraged.

and follow Kripparian on twitch.tv if u get a chance he theorycrafts and just talks about the game in an informative manner, can be usefull to tune in occasionally and pick up some pointers.

    See you in game!(hardcore only)

If you mean it literally by saying "what's the story", there isn't a lot about them. You can view it when you create the character.

Well, the short version is that you were thrown off a boat just off the shore of Wraeclast and told to swim for it, as punishment for your crime(s) in Oriath. This, for most people, is a death sentence in everything but name.

If you dun mean it literally, Bombzaway has explained it well -- classes only affect your starting stat (quite irrelevant), passive initial location and quest reward options (for example -- only witches get clarity, the mana regen aura, early,  as quest reward. Other classes get it late in game. Rangers get a lot of projectile enhancing options etc)

You can make a melee witch if you wish to (and it has been effectively done). Builds are all about passives and skill (gem) choice.

You can play with the passive skill planner on official website while downloading/waiting for OB release to get familiar with the game. It will help understanding the game a lot -- there is too much to type. Note that there will be a patch for OB release so the passives will be changed.

ps. fire+ice+lightning ranger can actually be very effective -- namely Elemental Equilibrium Elemental hit ranger with chain+lesser multiple projectile.

You can be an infinite variant of rogue types in this game. Duelist is what you will probably find most similar but how you build it...well that power is yours to decide :D

Enjoy the game! I know I am!

"Phase Run" was supposed to be stealth (reduce mob detect speed, increase first melee damage done). However most players use it as a movement speed improvement skill so it's getting disabled in the coming patch.

You would have to define "rogue" class more.  Hack-n-Slash games like D2, TL, and this title offer no situation where stealthing around would be useful.  Everyone is spamming skills killing massive armies of enemies.  Stealthing up to back-stab one guy wouldn't be very useful or enjoyable.

They have "rogue" style class in the sense you dual wield and attack really fast and can learn escape abilities to help get you out of bad situations.
