Choose 1 movie, How would you turn it into your "ideal" mmo?

steamtanksteamtank Member UncommonPosts: 391

Or franchise if your movie happens to be part of a series.....

So I guess this is a wishlist of potential IP adapations combined with where we would like to see the mmo market go

I am going with TRON:

Style: Sandbox

Overall feel: EvE meets DAoC meets Minecraft meets Secret World meets Dune

Players develpp skills by using them. There is no cap on any skill, but there is diminishing returns.  (a lvl 1 skill vs a lvl 100 skill is big. A lvl 100 skill vs a lvl 200 skill isnt as big a difference) Skills also take longer and longer to develop.(lvl 1->2 might be 5 min. lvl 99->100 might be 1 week. Lvl 199->200 might be a month)

The world would be shaped much how EvE is structured. A giant network of systems. These systems are connected by Solar Sailers. (The tron ship that rides a light beam)

At the Heart of all the systems is the 'safest' system.  Data supplies (used for crafting/trade) are available, but with risk comes reward. The closer to uncharted you get the better chances you have of collecting rare supplies.

Clusters of 'safe' sectors are run by NPC groups. You can complete quests for these groups that align you closer to that groups ideals. However some tasks will negatively affect how other NPC groups react to you. So your 'safe' zones might not be the same as someone elses. Tasks might even include killing Programs from other factions, or Users aligned with those factions.

Open sectors can be owned by Users and User coprorations.  Each system in a sector has its "laws" assigned by the controling corporation. These corps can build cities, defensive structures, hire NPC's, cultural centers, trade areas, and military assests.  The "laws" go beyond just who is considered friendly and what makes you considered a foe. The laws can affect things like gravity, lighting, etc.

Territories can be contested in several ways. They can be bought (if your corp is all about trading), you can destroy everything your enemy has built in open world combat (reduces your standing with all NPC factions), or if you wish to contest for a territory and keep infastructure intact... you challenge them to the games.

Open world combat is perfectly reasonable for taking territory. Smaller guilds who own territory can buy NPC defenders, work alliances etc.

Games work a bit differently. Every territory has a $$ value. Every asset in that territory adds to the $$ value.  Opposing corps can either wager equal assests in territory, or the raw $$ amout. The winner of the games wins all the assests.

The games are based on the size of the smaller of the corps in question (say a corp of 10 players happens to own a property but gets challenged by a corp of 100 players... a large game wouldnt do)

The games are:

5 users per side  enter 1v1. Each user stays in until defeated. Damage recieved in previous combat is not healed when a new user enters on the opposite team.  This means a single player could beat all 5 from the other side, but chances are unlikely.

5 users per side enter 5v5 lightcycle battles. player stats affect how the lightcycle functions (speed, armor, distance each light line can cover before recovery)

10 user per side Tanks. 2 users per tank (pilot/gunner) Tanks can take 2 direct hits before destruction

20 users per side, all in. Players combat on a randomly selected map.  Rules may be set to: single death eliminated, most kills over time, most map owned.

Strategy board games, card games etc. (chinese checkers, poker, stratego) These can be used as well

Etc.

The game is chosen by the defender, but the variant rules are chosen by the attacker. To take a territory your side must win two of three rounds. No game can be selected twice for a session. (So say defenders win the 1v1 game, attackers win the lightcycle game, defenders choose 8 man poker as the 3rd game since they cant play 1v1 or lightcycle )

So thats basically it. Each map  outside the safezone is buildable by players. Players fight, buy, and gamble their way into owning as much as their corporation can handle.  NPC attacks in areas are random. Players are free to work for NPC factions, strike out on their own, become bounty hunters, become traders, become skilled builders for hire, join corps, etc.

So who is up next?

I got this from another post a long time ago. But I completely agree with it.

If I got to choose a setting, it would be He-Man (Masters of the Universe).

Sandpark (but more sandbox). A SWG with a hint of EQ2 and Path of Exile (Deep Passive Tree).

Deep Character Creation: You must create your own unique character, race, and profile.

We have Swords, Shields, Magic, Guns, Tanks, Flying Ships, Creature Mounts, Factions, Combat, and more... It's pure virtual bliss.

Our players won't be limited by mere Sword & Board / Duck & Shoot combat skills. With MoTU's history of unique characters and how each one has a unique combat attribute, we have free customizable reign.

It's time to create the greatest MMORPG in the world: Masters of the Universe Online.

On Golden Pond - it would have a fishing mini game and permadeath.

I didn't really understand the whole "Avatar" (James Cameron) hype, but I think this would make a great MMO.

Such a vibrant and expansive world with interesting creatures. Switching between your human and Avatar would be pretty cool, or just have the two races completely separate.

Highlander. Where fights can happen but you can only kill another player in a single player duel without interference and it is permadeath. last one standing wins the prize!

Edit : lol above post was done while writing this.
