Blizzard Entertainment has announced that World of Warcraft players raised over $2.3 million to be donated to the American Red Cross to assist victims of Hurricane Sandy. The money was raised through sales of the Cinder Kitten in-game pet. 100% of the cost of the Cinder Kitten was donated to the ARC.

I love this use of microtransactions. Everyone wins, people in need get resources, players get a cute kitten, and Blizzard gets loads of goodwill.
Fuzzy feelings all round. I'd love to do this kind of stuff for my game.

Friend, 100% of the proceeds went to Hurricane Sandy peoples.
Try to be excellent to everyone you meet. You never know what someone else has seen or endured.

Apparently 100% of proceeds donated doesn't make sense to you? Haters gonna hate. Good for Blizzard. My respect for them has risen immeasurably.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's a nice gesture indeed and that’s a large amount for charity!
It also shows how much they make from each in game item which is pretty obscene, no wonder they have mounts and all sorts in the store, it’s a cash cow indeed.
its great what Blizzard did
the 100% donations ended in December tho - the rest is profit

so say we all
was actually aiming more for gibberish, but hey close enough
And without Blizzard, how many players would have likely given to hurricane relief? Not nearly as many. Then add in the administrative nightmare that collecting charitable donations in the US is and you have a HUGE contribution by Blizzard.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Well Said!
For all the evil that is happening in USA now days 'yes another shooting happened where a madman opened fire at high school), it is amazing that some people can not just feel happy for something positive like this..people care about people.
People are too prone to negativity that they are stuck in thsi black hole and refuse to appreciate any good around them.

LESS money that what they would normaly give for promotion... although i think that was in their budget of promotion strategy anyway... at least some people got benefit..ill keep that.
I don't play WoW anymore, I don't have a job, and I don't like NJ, but I bought one anyways.
Would be funny if they gave the money in BNET balance... lol
