Total waste of $60 and my time, really pissed off more about time spent wasted playing it to get to the level where we found out about culling and it's abuses in WvWvW. Total waste, and yeah a huge disappointment.

Still amazed they haven't said a word on it.

    https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/Can-you-fix-it-culling

tl;dr: We are working on a fix (a collection of fixes, really) for culling and character loading issues. The fixes require significant changes to a number of game systems and thus require time to implement. We’re not yet ready to discuss a release date for the current set of fixes, but we’re working hard to improve the experience as quickly as we can.

Just in case you were curious about it, the thread goes on in great length about it. It sounds like you were frustrated with it, so at the very least, here is "a word on it."

appreciate the link, and read the response. Hate to say it, but it just concretes my vote for biggest disappointment. That response was far and away 'not good enough'. They knew the issue was going to happen, at the very least, take the ability away from the thief class to prevent the problem in WvWvW. Also, this post is a month old, and still nothing official on it.

but again, thank you for the info, I will not say ANet haven't said a word on it any longer, but they stil have yet to address the problem.

GW2 is by far the most renewing games in years, sadly most hardcore members didn´t understand it was meant for a casual friendly atmosphere, and keep kicking it in the back, making it look like the game failed, while its a huge succes.

TSW was not bad either, great atmosphere but not enough content to keep people going.

SWTOR was a great one timeplay through (actually 2 times ) story game. A bit to much RPG for most, but quite enjoyable for a month or 2.

Maybe all the MMO bashers by now should realise that they are done and over with current day MMORPG´s as they will never ever be sattisfied by any MMO any more. Its time for them to move on to other genres.

Have to agree. I expected to hate GW2 and am still playing it. SWTOR was a disappointment but I enjoyed the 3 months that I played - and it was still better than mmos like AOC, WH and Aion. TSW I tried but could not get into it.

I especially agree with the last statement. I too am burned out but I realize that the mmo that I am waiting for will never come to past. I kept hoping that the newest mmo would be the next WOW where I could spend my time for the next 7 years as I did with Azeroth. Not going to happen. There are two choices as I see it. The first is take each new mmo for what it is. Enjoy the good parts and put up with the bad. The second choice is quit the genre.

Actually there is a third option (popular on this site) - live your life in the forums and troll every new game.

City of Heroes going. Bad decision to close it down since there are reports of profit.

SWTOR. Lots of different reasons. I don't play anymore.

WoW, mostly happy about this but disappointed that MoP enforces Chinese communist thinking on the player because they are addicted and will just accept it. Bad move Blizzard, get your next expansion out make it capitalist democracy friendly asap to even that balance. The expansion was quite playable, toony Disney graphics but not too immature minded, more at the family friendly level so adults could still play and not feel like it's club penguin. Not that I play that either. I still play WoW but not at renewale sub level, WoW is being watched cautiously for what they will push on the gamer next.

Lovely sentiment but can we get back on target?

The War Z had insanely high hopes.  Anet wasn't forced to suspend a trademark over GW2...which is doing fine.

In my opinion GW2 was the worst game made of the year and Diablo 3 was the biggest dissapointment.  Diablo 3 got so freaking boring after 1000 hours played and they aren't adding content fast enough to the game.  Diablo 3 was also WoWified becoming a grossly over simplizied dungeon crawler.  The RMAH was also a dumb idea...prices for everything are in the billions of gold and maxed out at 250.00 per item because of the greed.

GW2 I just hated litterally everything about it. The graphics wern't that great and yet took up a lot of resources on my computer (and I have a beast as hell computer).  The downed state was moronic in my opinion, especially in PvP (wrecking somone from 100-0 without taking hardly any damage but then them being able to auto attack you in the downed state for a ton of your life is dumb).  Not having any healers/tanks traditionally made everything sporadic and a cluster F.  The quests were boring and not innovative and dynamic events weren't dynamic they were litterally exactly like PQ's in other games that just reset after completion.  WvW was kind of fun...for ranged but was honestly just a big zerg w/o any real rewards.  One plus was that a lot of the end game armor skins looked pretty cool in GW2.  Really my biggest gripes are the lack of trinity, the combat system, and that it was insanely boring.

The poll is missing TSW although I actually think this is the best game of the year :)

For the sake of fairness "biggest disappointment of the last 2 years", the honor goes to SW:TOR.  I figured at very worst it would be "WoW in Space".  Unfortunately it didn't even live up to that.

Yeah Diablo 3 was my biggest dissapointment even though its not on there I picked SWTOR. There were some games on there (TSW) where my expectations were that it would be garbage so I was certaianly not dissapointed to find out those games were indeed garbage.

Obviously very debateable and has been debated extensively here. But I'd say the consensus is that D3 should be on mmorpg game list by accomodation (or sensus fidelium in a manner of speaking), so yeah, it counts.

Personally I wasn't overly disappointed in much this year, but that was more a matter of low expectations than anything else.

ToR -- Never have gotten what the utterly insane amount of hate for this game is about, and I do have to wonder just how many years people are going to spend whining about it. It wasn't a great game, it wasn't a bad one, and I'm quite sure it'll live on more than long enough to drive some of the more vociferous haters around here right around the bend -- those that aren't there already.

D3 -- Another game that draws what is to me an inexplicable amount of hate. Sells huge numbers, has a huge number of players to this day, yet is declared a failure around here -- granted, 'failure' in these parts literally means nothing more than  'game I don't love'. In any event, another one I was 'eh' about, but mostly because the person I have historically played ARPGs with doesn't have time, I don't like playing with random people, and they're boring to play alone, and because, frankly I think gaming has changed, as it inevitably does, but the basic ARPG format hasn't -- at least not yet.

T2 -- Odd to me that so many have mentioned D3 when it seems to me that T2 was a bigger disappointment to many. Frankly I had no hopes for it one way or the other, played it some during a couple of the open betas and felt that it blew chunks. But a lot of people were hyping it as the D3 killer, until after its release when it just fell off the map.

GW2 -- Another one I had low hopes for. I played GW1 for two years, and am frankly shocked at how surprised people are about how Anet has handled things. If you take the GW1 rose coloured glasses off, most of what has gone on was quite predictable. My only disappointment there was in myself, for letting some friends convince me to buy it, followed by some surprise that I found myself actively disliking it rather than just, as I had expected, finding it shallow and boring.

Tera -- Wasn't even on my radar, so no particular disappointment. Played a few of the betas. Kinda thought it might be a bit interesting at first, but the changes they made over time and getting a bit more experience in the game led me to stay away.

TSW -- Probably the closest to a disappointment to me. Playing the betas I really liked the atmosphere and setting, oddly to me the whole thing had a real FE feel to it for some reason (well, there are more than a few similarities, honestly). Unfortunately the character creation was just painful -- even now (or, at least, the last time I tried it a few weeks ago) it's hard to make a female character that doesn't look simian. The silent protagonist thing kind of drove me bats, especially when you have things like the idiotic Dragon opening. Some of the cornball voice acting (especially the sheriff in the first town there) was a bit grating. The combat felt clunky and not very fun. Still, TSW is one from this year (not counting ToR, it wasn't this year) that I considered buying at launch, that I eventually decided not to is because of the ways in which I found it disappointing.

Have to go with TSW, also.  Why wasn't it even on the list?

Course, some of those games are worse, but if I didn't expect much, I can't say they disappointed me.  TSW, I thought would be decent at least.  On par with AoC or AO, maybe.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

gw2 gave me a solid month of addictive gameplay at a buy to play price. Can't say that was a dissapointment.

my vote has to go to the re-release of swtor as f2p as the biggest dissapointment.

I went back to the game subbed only to realize that it's now sub+cash grab + pay 2 win and there still is no end game. Bioware went from one of my most respected companies to one of the shadiest i've seen in my 30 years of gaming. Seriously , they punished the subscribers by almost forcing them to sub + buy from the cash shop.  The game isn't even f2p and people that think that need their head checked. Just my two cents.

My second would be tsw. game had a great idea, and it was implemented poorly. The combat is lolful.

GW2 delivered exactly what they promised, so I'm quite happy with it. TSW has some wasted potential, but it's still a great game.

I'd say my biggest disappointment was TERA. People hyped it as a real competitor to GW2, but it was so boring I couldn't even get through the trial period.

GW2 was the disappointment of the decade to be honest. At least PvP-wise it failed in almost every aspect.

I forgot about Planetside 2, as a huge fan of the first one the sequel sucks IMO. I knew this playing betas, but still I hoped that somehow the release would be better, oh well.

Agreed, and im so mad at that. GW2 has the best combat mechanics/gameplay it is different and fun. However the fricking pvp is terrible. It focuses on zerg style, i don't know which is a more zergfest WvW or spvp.

For that reason i voted GW2.

SWTOR. Sure the story was well written (for the most part) and fun to play through, but once you finish it there's nothing but the usual dungeons / raids to do with crappy loooking gear rewards.

Sad thing is, turning it into something worthwhile wouldn't have taken all that much more effort. Add in some casino minigames at Nar Shaddaa, and actually take some effort to animate the cities to make them feel alive. As it is a visit to Dromund Kaas is sort of like walking through a haunted house; NPCs stay in the same spots, doing the same activities for eternity.

NPC scripting + minigames + some basic emotes (such as /sit) + regular story content updates = A fun mixture of KOTOR and an MMO.

What we got was dead cities + horrid selection of emotes + crappy content + broken, linear planets with no day / night cycle + no regular story content updates = Fun to level in, but ultimately about as deep as a kiddie pool. During a draught.

Edit: runner-up for me was GW2, but then I never really expected greatness from it so it's hard to be disappointed. It was just a WoW clone with a few things done differently. Such as making your character feel like a complete WUSS instead of a hero, and making you dodge about like a ping pong ball in a clothes dryer. Fun for a bit, but ultimately wiped from my HDD.
