just WOW. This game has changed. I encourage those who haven't to give it another go.

So I played this game in beta and I really liked it. I didn't get extremely far and left it a little while afterwards as I got kind of bored.

I recently went back to give it another go and the servers are all populated extremely well. Sith and republic sides are actually pretty even. Ship combat has improved and the game looks phenomenal. I thought GW2 would be my game of choice but it failed to capture me.

I found myself coming back to SWTOR and am extremely happy with my purchase. I recommend everyone let go of what they think to be true and give it another go.

Also all of the reports about doom and gloom are unfounded. An article was just released that there are still 1.3 million players playing the game. they only suffered a 400k loss (http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/05/07/swtor-subscriber-base-shrinks) from 1.7 to 1.3 million. Which makes it the second largest sub game out currently (to WoW of course).

An expansion is also planned to be released shortly.

     See you guys in game!

Is this some kind of wind up? That article was done in May 2012, 8 months ago, when the game was not F2P, and it had 200 servers.

The servers are only full for now, due to F2P just being put in and the holidays, but enjoy it while it lasts, as in a a few months time it will be a lot quieter.

Do you have something against joy? lol. That is the last known report of the SWTOR subscription base. As far as I know its still the second largest MMO out there. The article isn't THAT old. The game didn't have 200 servers then either.

Regardless I'm loving it. The chat is full of people who are also. So I guess you can sit and rage about how people like the game lol.

Actually it is good. As the reviews state clearly others loved it also.

Do you guys even play MMOs? if so which one do you play?

If you think any MMO is really ever a ghost town you know nothing about MMO's. Once servers become too light they just merge servers.

Due to this it is extremely difficult for any MMO to really die. Does it matter how many servers there are? Not really. All that matters is when you log in there are lots of people. Which there are now.

seriously? Your calling me a fanboi just because I'm asking people to give it another go and saying that I'm having fun in the game?

Your the one pulling drugs and insults into it lol. I'm just saying I'm liking it. Its fun, populated, and as far as the statistics say not nearly even close to dying.

There are pages of full servers as of right now. Not many people are even using the F2P thing as its pretty limited and only intended to be a small demo. Everybody I've talked to at all online is subscribed.

SWTOR has far less then 1.3 million active subs. In order for them to break even they need 500k subs, in order to make money they needed a million subs. They obviously arent close to that since they went F2P. The servers are popular because it just went F2P and it is still pretty close to the holidays. Give it a couple of months. Although, I would assume by then you will have taken your rose colored glasses off. SWTOR is no where close to #2 MMO. I would say GW2 is #2 atm. Considering that Aion was the 2nd biggest before GW2 and GW2 is making way more money then Aion.

Not to mention that most F2P players are not actually buying anything in the cash shop and the only thing F2P is managing to do is pull in additional revenue from the current subs. Most of those guys accept the restrictions and are simply playing through the story without paying a cent. (i know a couple of them) So the second you start getting to the sub base of the game and deal with long warzone que times, flashpoint finder que times, and a difficulty in finding a guild with an active raid group..it is pretty hard to judge the population at a glance.

Do you spend your time ingame asking people if they pay a sub or not? If not, your data doesn't prove anything. If yes, is the game that boring?

its true I am. There are times when I'm not logged on believe it or not. Right now I'm waiting for an update. I guess the biggest part I don't udnerstand is what are people actually playing then?

If this game is so horrible I fail to see any game out right now that would appease the standards set. It certainly isn't star trek online.

From what I can see this game offers the best at everything it does. I don't see any other MMO's out there to play. Tried WoW. Tried GW2 (clearly as I haven't even changed my sig yet). Tried TSW. I've tried all of those games and SWTOR seems to be the best one out there.

I'm also confused why some people think its dying. Have you even logged onto the game? Its far from that.

  • TheLizardbonesTheLizardbones Member CommonPosts: 10,910

There were plenty of people around me when I logged into after the F2P transition. Not as many as when I played just after release, but that's not surprising really. It's not likely that they'll get back to 1.3 or 1.7 million people, but they'll certainly get more people into the game with "free" than "box + sub". Anyone who liked the game, but not enough to pay a sub would probably enjoy the game now, for free.

It's not substantially different from when the game released though.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Here is a more recent report

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19077238

with figures declined to below 1 million and the "current performance "not good enough"" from EA themselves.

and there has not been any official numbers released since, meaning the figure is nothing to be proud of, and worse than that

btw, I am not against people having fun, but posting old news is wrong / misleading

Its hard to judge GW2 at any given point due to its unsub format. I wasn't counting it as technically it has zero subscriptions. As I stated I don't know anyone who is unsubbed. No I don't run around asking everyone but at the same time its pretty easy to tell who has the restrictions and who doesn't. Personally que times don't bother me ever but I know from personal experience I don't wait over a minute ever. Is that long? to some I guess.

Do you have a source for saying it has less than 1.3 million subs? because I have a source saying the opposite. An old source is better than no source at all in my book, thus I will rely off of the valid statistical evidence provided.

Anyways I don't really care how many people are playing because there will always be enough to fill at least one server. So really it doesn't matter. I could care less what people are doing on other servers, I don't play with them.

As I asked before what is anyone playing then? If not this? GW2 quickly bored me as did WoW and TSW and Rift and TERA. Unless everybody just runs to different forums to hate on everything that's out. I could point out far more flaws about any of those listed games than SWTOR for sure. Which is why I've landed back here.

Your argument is so terrible, it's difficult for me to express how deeply my facepalm is being expressed.

8 months ago an article expressed that the population was declining rapidly by showing that the subs went from 1.7 mil to 1.3 mil. Some time after that, they merged ~200 servers down to 20 servers. After that, the game went F2P in order to attract customers who would not have payed to play the game.

Your "statistical evidence" is from 8 months ago and useless. So embarrassingly useless, that it only serves to help discredit whatever positive message you might be trying to get across. Populations have gone up since F2P, but 20 servers are not housing 1.3 million players.

Yes, i remember people talking about how the game will die like a year ago and the servers have been heavy even after the F2P, 1.7 update is close and it will bring back Illum, then the expansion, im sorry but the population will keep growing in the next months.  Is ok if you dont like the game, but there is really a lo of people who play it, and enjoy it everyday.

I thought you were going to say they've actually improved the game in some way, or are you just excited that it's more populated?

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

I'm playing Aion for the first time and it's pretty fun.  No interest in playing Star Wars, I never did like the movies anyway.  George Lucas and Steven Spielberg raped Indiana Jones.

(i know a couple of them) So the second you start getting to the sub base of the game and deal with long warzone que times, flashpoint finder que times, and a difficulty in finding a guild with an active raid group..it is pretty hard to judge the population at a glance.

EA THEMSELVES announced at their last conference call (still a fair bit before the game went F2P) that the numbers had dropped below 1 million, but were above 500k. That was the last announcement on numbers for the game, and most likely will be the last announcement ever - unless they have an absolutely huge increase worth announcing.

Game hasnt changed in any way, well, UI is MMO standard now and theres a cash shop and free trial to level 50, paid content updates, but thats about it.

Oh, and they just announced open world PvP is on back burner indefinately and they will concentrate on WZs. So yah, it has changed as in no more open world PvP.

Nah, last one after 500k-1m was "we dont want to discuss subs any more".

Its one thing to enjoy the game, completely another to say "just WOW it has changed so much" when it didnt change at all and linking 8 months old nubers which have dropped off significantly.

The servers are only full for now, due to F2P just being put in and the holidays, but enjoy it while it lasts, as in a a few months time it will be a lot quieter.

I also remember people saying to the dying comments that it is not dying and all servers are thriving, and not dropping at all but increasing and growing, yet it went F2P and servers went from 200 to 20, with EA themselves saying "the performance is not good enough"

Heavy is not good enough, they were Very Heavy / Full

I do not have a problem with the last bit you say, but the game is still the same as it was which bled millions of players. There is nothing coming that will stop the bleeding. The game has gone F2P and is now on its last legs, if it had not gone F2P then you may have had a point.

         See you guys in game!

    lol...

They don't have anywhere near 1.3mil subscribers. Nothing even remotely close to that lol.

The most recent information from EA themeselves states this. The fact that they were forced to switch to F2P states this.

And what do you mean you are happy with your purchase? You didn't have to purchase it, it is a free to play. You download it and play for free until you feel the need to buy something off of the cartel. Do you mean you are happy that you are paying a sub fee for it?

That article was also not "just released" lol.

I don't understand the need to be in an overly popular title.

As long as it's not completely empty and I can have fun in it I'm fine.

I don't see a need to be in the biggest lemming group.

    Dear OP,

Do not feel bad, the game is fun for those who want to enjoy the game for what EA is currently giving, and for what they said f2p is going to be. The f2p model is currently in flux due to the company trying to make a larger gap in the differences between the 3 levels. Eventually all will be ironed out and the 3 gaps should look more along the lines of other f2p. The same group of people will jump in on any person who defends the freedom of choice to enjoy a game of SWTOR becuase "You just don't get it" (Sorry if I'm paraphrasing as I do not want to dig down the quote from one of the members in a prior reply to myself).

SWTOR is not SWG2, the f2p model is not the same as any other game (then again very few f2p models are the same, but doesn't count for anything as the games THEY defend are the bestest), Cash shops are across the board a grab for money no matter the company behind it or the warm fuzzy feeling you get, Holiday events are the end all be all of a MMO because everyone in the WHOLE world recognizes and celebrates the same events at the same time, The UI interface is obviously a complete fail because it isn't what "I" think it should be. EA is a money grubbing company who only cares about the bottom line (but other companies REALLY care about your feelings and if you are having fun, they will put their bottom line on hold just to make sure you are having fun)

SWTOR is the WORST game in history. EVERYONE says so, just look it up online, everyone admits it. That makes be a fanboi because I support peoples choice for playing such a horrible game I should feel bad becuase "I'm what is wrong with the MMO industry" (again paraphrasing as I'm just to lazy to track down that post as well) If I would just admit that I'm wrong and acknowledge that the game is horrible than the game can die a thousand deaths and a better SW title can finally be made becuase the next people will obviously listen the the rantings of prior SW games (like they did for SWTOR).

Just remember on thing. If you enjoy it keep playing. If you feel like supporting, do so. If/when the game has a resurgance then you can be glad that you were part of that rebirth. If it dies then it can join SWG in the trashheap where it belongs, like so many other "great games" that did not make it. Just do not give in the the "haters" who proudly proclaim in every post (including the ones not about SWTOR) that swtor is the worst thing to have ever even been dreamed of.

Play what you Like. I like SWOTR, Have a referral to get you going!

The strange thing about your post is that no one in this thread said the game was horrible. At most, they said it was pretty much the same as before. Which is pretty much true from a gameplay perspective.

I played the game at launch and only lasted like 45 days, went back once and didn't care for it again.  Decided to give it a try this past week since it was F2P and I am enjoying the heck out of it.  Guess I just took the game for what it is and am enjoying the story.  Don't know if I'll sub, but I'll probably just buy some cartel coins and go for the unlocks.

LOL at OP.  Their last official statements on subs was between 500k and 1 million.  YES, they made it a huge gap.  My guess is it was closer to 500k, otherwise why throw that number out there.

The game hasn't changed much at all really other than the group finder and getting rid of Ilum.
