If you played the game you'll know that you can rebind the keys and also that you get to choose control scheme the first time you log in.

Most people seem to prefer space and wasd (plus shift for the more advanced stuff), when jumping and flying. I do it myself and the controls have never felt awkward to me.

So instead bashing a game you obviously know very little about, do some more research and perhaps your criticism will be taken more seriously.

Yeah I am using the wasd controls, moving using the 2 mouse buttons and have one of my mouse extra buttonsconfigured as CTRL and it just works fine.

I mean AoW has a horrible UI and a terribad translation but the controls are fine and customizable.

I even saw some idiot complain that he couldn't configure the first extra hotbar to be used with CTRL (CTRL+1, CTRL+2 ecc) when not only is perfectly possible to configure all teh keys but IT ALREADY COMES MAPPED THAT WAY!!!!!

Please to all the tards, go troll some other game, leave here people who want to discuss AoW or are looking for help. We aren't interested in knowing your tastes or your quirks...

Or how about just take it as opinion.  Now that I remember, it was the holding shift as a modifier while trying to jump/fly.  It completely takes my hand away from WASD in order to move, therefor the stumbling block.  Yes, I know you can choose a control scheme, but of the options none are like WoW/Rift/Lotro/EQ2 etc, now are they?

You realize it's a FORUM and it's all about people's tastes and quirks, they are called opinions.  Oh wait, you must fall into the category of people who can't stand when other people don't like what they do.  Anyway, back to opinions on the GAME and not other people, thank you.

Yes it's an opinion when you state it once, after the 4th post becomes a bit of a sick obsession but knowing you I am am somehow ...not surprised! Anyhow, we get it. You don't like the UI. You not going to play. Fine. How many dozens more posts are you going to write about it?

Played the game for the first time yesterday, played for aprox 5 hours. The free trial does allow for up to 10 hours of playtime between the first two days and then an hour per day thereafter.

I like what's there, but ultimately it's lacking a couple of key elements that are deal breakers for me. Ambiance and atmosphere are critical for my long term enjoyment of a game. I know that I am in the minority on that though, so not knocking the game, just not for me is all.

The combat was awesome and the range of motion was great. Jumping roof to roof was a lot of fun and the systems that I experienced were interesting. Things like protecting your school's secrets and the bounty system seem thrilling. The world felt very open and explorable to me. The UI didn't bother me, the cash shop looked fine to me.  I would imagine that anybody who isn't hung up on little details regarding ambiance might just find the game worth checking out. For me though, combat and range of motion is so much less important than things like day/night cycles and dynamic weather systems.

It's beta though, I will watch from the bleachers to see if they add the things that would complete the experience for me, and if so I will certainly reinstall and buy some premium time.

AFAIK  the beta is only for the localization, the game has been running for months now in China. If those features aren't in, I doubt they will be added soon. Also, in my experience, chinese and korean games are stronger on things like combat and 'systems' but very short on the packaging...

Better off playing the Russian beta that's happening at the moment. This version of the game is much better than the US one - the graphics seem sharper and the UI is better (especially the chat/system text). It also has some slightly more advanced features, like the meridian system, which isn't in the US version.

After playing both it seems Snail Games US is really short-changing their intended customers. I hope the EU version will follow the Russian one, and therefore be more like the current released version in China.

You can find details about how to play the Russian beta in English here: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/373117/page/1

That's true, I suppose if it isn't in by now then it likely won't ever be. It's interesting to me that they have things like hunger and swimming under water, ambient sounds throughout towns and the wilderness and then stop short of a day/night cycle and weather. I could have sworn I saw a snow storm in a video before I downloaded the game, but when I asked in game I was told that there's no weather system.

I definitely feel that what is there is strong, there's a ton of systems in place that I feel are done right.

Read this http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/12/18/first-impressions-from-the-age-of-wushu-beta/ Then read about all the features of the game here, everything you need to know http://uk.ign.com/wikis/age-of-wushu/Novice_Guide And then actually see for yourself and download the game http://www.ageofwushu.com/
It seems like whenever people ask how this particular game is a sandbox they don't get a direct answer.

Instead of sending us to a series of pages, would you be able to answer the question for us?

Pretty much, not to say provided links are just useless when it comes to figuring out game concept.

I canceled the donwload when I read that there are "stalls" to sell your stuff...so much EVE like indeed :)

Dunno, it might be possible that they have it in the chinese version, till last week I didn't know much about AoW.

Worth checking some forum that has info on that version

    @ Mithrandolir

Totally agree. The lack of weather and a day/night cycle is pretty weird in a game like this. It would have been great with some interesting systems being integrated with the time of day or the weather.

Still, the game has so much going for it that I have no problem ignoring the constant, never-changing mid-day sunshine.

It's about the EU version but nevertheless talks about a few issues that might interest even NA players:

Thanks for the info, and good points by all.

I might stick it out a bit and see if I can get past my vices here :)

I play Wurm, so I do get my dose of day/night and weather systems there...

The AoW Open Beta for China began only in August 2012 (four months ago) - this is roughly the version in NA CB2 (sans translation issues). CB2 is roughly 2 to 3 new feature patches behind the China version.

Currently, even the China version do not have all the planned systems implemented. In China, a feature patch is released about once very two months.

The China test servers has more features but  only those who paid for early access package in China (similar to the Deluxe and Elite here in NA) can create accounts on them.

     A day/night system should come in 2013.

This is good news (and good information too!)

    Thank you for this.
