First time doing an RMA. Help

lilreap2k3lilreap2k3 Member UncommonPosts: 353

I realize there are probably better places to ask this, but my fellow gamers have always served me well in the past.

I just had a video card go bad on me. I contacted the company and received an email with an RMA number and a return label. This is the first time I have ever had to RMA something. Could someone explain this process?

Where should I go to ship it back? US Postal, UPS, Fedex?
Will I have to pay shipping to ship it back to them for the replacement?
They said I needed to secure the product with some type of shipping material. What is the cheapest?
Should I send the entire video card packaging, box and all; or just the card?

Here's the url to their RMA page.http://www.galaxytechus.com/usa/supportRMA.aspx

Sometimes they provide a shipping label for you, which includes the cost of shipping. It will tell you who it is for, usually UPS. If it doesn't I would still send it UPS as they are fast, reliable and relatively affordable. Never trust USPS with anything time sensitive, valuable or fragile. They are a junk mail vendor and that is all.

Pack the card back in the anti static sleeve, then the original packaging and put it in a box. You can use crumpled newspaper to pad this inside of a larger box and you are all set. Put the RMA wherever they told you to.

    Good luck.

there should be a return label. Look on that and it will either say US post office, UPS, FedEx.

Most likely it will be UPS ground or FedEx ground.

Find a local drop area near you. If there is a kinkos copy shop, that will have FedEx. There are also UPS stores. Additionally, there will be areas around your town/city. Just go to the appropriate website and search. Or call them. off the top of my head, fedex is 1-800-gofedex

I would put the product, including the box in a slightly larger box that is sturdier. Tape it all up. Make sure your return address is there.

MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A COPY OF THE LABEL SO YOU CAN HAVE LOCATOR NUMBER/RECORD!

    "ok I found out"

    I called them.

They indicated that "you" need to cover costs to send it back. That's why there isn't a UPS or FedEx name on that label. The label is just for them to determine what needs to be done with it as it has pertinent info.

So I would say that depending on how fast you want to get it to them, you would then send it however you want. I would send it in a way where you can get a return receipt (USPS) or ups or fedex ground for a cheap way which will give you a tracking number.

If they don't give a label:

Send it back by whatever means is most convenient for you. If you have the original packaging that is best, if not, package it the best you can (remember if it gets damaged in route they may not cover it, or refuse the item). USPS is not terribly reliable, I strongly recommend using something with a tracking service (UPS or FedEx), and if you don't have the original box, get the item professionally boxed (this way the carrier will insure for damages without questions). UPS Store, FedEx/Kinkos, several local Shipping stores are all good options. You don't need over night, but the sooner you get it to them, the sooner they can process it and get you a working one back: Ground is usually the most economical and gets it there within 3-5 days.

Make sure your RMA number is written on the outside of the box. Also make sure to print out a copy of the RMA/invoice/notice they gave you and include it inside the box with the product.

Some companies will refuse or return packages without an RMA number written on them.

Thanks for all the replies you guys. I went to a local postage place and got it sent out with UPS for like $15. I had the clerk do everything in front of me to make sure it was done right.
