Think of JPEG, GIF (pronounced as 'JIF').

For other acronyms I think it's because there are no agreements.

I usually go with 'More Peg'.  MMORPG always looked like that to me.

Actually, I think the "More Pigs" candidate sums it up quite nicely.

    I just pronounce it 'morphine'.

I refuse to shorten it beyond saying each letter individually.

What's the point of this thread?

There is a difference between a three letter acronym and a six letter acronym.

I only use it internally. People look at me funny when I say it aloud

MMORPG isn't an acronym, it's an initialism like CIA and FBI.

+1 to the one who gets it. Both acronyms and initialisms are types of abbreviations.

Acronyms can be pronounced as words, like NASA.

Initialisms cannot, like FBI or CIA

I've been saying it one (wrong) way phonetically to myself for years and years now. And it's been good enough for me. That is - just plain 'morg'. But if I'm speaking with other people I'll pronounce the letters quickly and individually, mmo - rpg.

Watch any of Zero Puncuation's MMORPG reviews and you'll hear him "pronounce" it. It's quite funny.

It sounds kinda like Meh Mor Peh Gah

I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil

"Em Em Oh Are Pee Gee"    typically.

Or.......  " Emhem Ahhh Peegeez"   if you are intoxicated.

Or......  "I hate this freaking stupid piece of rat s**** a** bunch of bull****"    when they frustrate you.

Or..... " BUT MOM......JUST ANOTHER HOOOOOUR!  PUH LEEEEESE! "  if you have no business playing one in the first place.

And finally, if you have a wife, and enjoy MMORPG's she may refer to them as,

    " I want a divorce. "

Morgue, seems appropriate for many of them.
