50+ people in a 30m area with combat and npcs everywhere, abosolutrly zero fps studder.

It's obvious I'm digging the game for a lot of reasons, but the performance of AoW is astounding. I'm playing on an AMD P4 9k series, cpu that's a debatable step up from an intel dual core. Rift, swtor, tsw, gw2, and from what I heae df:uw all have issue to varing degrees.

Yah too bad they don't speak English.

    The translations are horrible.

    The keyboard mapping is horrible.

The way you move is horrible.

But other than than that 0 fps - AWESOME!

Yeah, i have to agree that the performance is really good but then againn the whole freaking game is good.image

Agreed, I was actually very surprised the game runs so well when some graphically inferior games fart along on my rig as soon as another player shows up.

Western coders have a lot to learn from these guys. Not to mention western game designers...

There is one severe limitation tho. You cant see players who are basically 10 meters away. They pop out from nowhere.

I have a strange issue with this game where I can't see any scripting. So I'm left with many empty windows and no idea what  is going on. Basically cannot play. I haven't found any posts about this issue on their forums, and my support ticket has not been responded to yet. Glad I didn't actually PAY anything for this yet, like I could have. These things that make games "unplayable" should really be ironed out before offering a paying version of a game.

It can be a bit challenging at first, but if you actually give it a chance and learn the systems (they are a bit confusing) it's really incredibly deep and rewarding.  I would put it right on par with EVE's game systems.

There will probably be an incremental graphic engine update next year.

I got a video link here which demo small improvements to be added like cloth simulation.

Who is this they you speak of? The other players, the NPCs, the developers, or the GM team? The game itself is an import. Most the players I've run into speak English, though there is a sizeable Vietnamese community on the NA server. When I contacted a GM it was in English.

    The translations are horrible.

Beta, translation is a work in progress. Admittedly,  it still needs a ton of work. If you just skip the dialog it isn't so bad... but some things are still confusing as hell.

    The keyboard mapping is horrible.

See game settings. This one is configurable. Personally I ditch the AoW commands and pick the traditional MMO default keybinds. Then move Block over to Shift (as it is in DCUO/Champions Online). On the forums it seems others are moving it to Q.

The way you move is horrible.

See above. Get block off your right click and mouse movement isn't clunky as hell. Also, disable click to move is you want.

But other than than that 0 fps - AWESOME!

In-house engine known as Flexi.  Sounds like it's a good performer.

The first few hours can be slow, unless you channel you inner Jet Li and soak in the wisdom. You have to do the 1st chapter of the personal story, and first chapter of your school story to unlock the second set of your schools abilities, after that it's no holds bared. Do whatever go where ever.

I have not seen any open world content gating. I've killed the highest ranking mobs I've seen "Unfathomable."

Sadly, no invertable mouse.   That pretty much kills it for me, my perspective and reflexes get totally hosed.  Otherwise it seems to have decent keyboard rebinding.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

    [mod edit]

I've logged in and I've played.

It's extremely frustrating when you are in an instance with jumping puzzles and the movement keys/point of view keys are all messed up.

I tryed everything - the right turn key bind and right camera pan seem to do the same thing.

The camera pan with mouse does not work.

To me movement/straffing/mouse point of view in an mmo is the most basic thing - if you can't get that right for a Western audience - why bother?

I've always wondered how people ended up using inverted controls like this.  The standard for mouse/kb movement has been the same as long as I have been gaming with a PC since back in the early 90's.  How did you get stuck with inverted controls?

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

Awesome thanks for that I was wondering since every video I've seen has been crappy rez so far

Was wondering how this game looked and played.

I use inverted controls on a 'look' thumbstick for consoles.  I am used to it.  However I have no idea why anyone would want to move the mouse up on the desk, and have the cursor move down on the screen.

Lag isn't measured in frames per second.

Fps lag... what would you like to call it? Yes the generally accepted use of lag that is more correct than the other has to do with latency. FPS studder, maybe?

Don't want to make a new thread, but I have played for atleast 30+ hours and have not had a single crash. Not one. Not even a slow down.

I googled Lag and the very first result was a wikipedia entry.  Maybe you should read it as I didn't even have to click into it to realize that Lag doesn't just mean internet latency.

The term lag is often also used as a synonym for communication latency.[5] This can be misleading because there can be other causes for the symptom.

If you need to google for it, you shouldn't educate people. Latency and lag are time periods. So, in seconds, or subdivisions.

Well I can only speak for myself, but after learning to fly many years ago, and then also hooked on various flight sims, the whole pull back control column to make the nose go up kind of sticks with you for motion/sense wise through all gameplay after a while.

Im guessing its the same for those that are very into flight sims alone, that the whole feel of moving said mouse or control stick backwards makes things go up in the air :D

I play first person shooters the same way, mouse towards me aims up :)
