So ladies and gentlemen please give your opinions on what was the best MMORPG you have ever played?

Also give a few reasons why it's the best. Thanks.

I will start, I know it's not popular and today the version of it doesn't interest me but the best mmorpg I've ever played is WoW. I started at the start of bc and played until the start of cata. I loved the world, the quests, the dungeons, the raids even the arenas. Of course over time that changed and the game is something I don't recognize now but that's what drew me in and kept me playing for 3 1/2 years.

FFXI was the absolute best... But only in the first 3 years. Once the botters started getting out of hand the economics of the game went to hell. I loved camping NMs, getting together with LSs for O hat runs, lvling in groups (I prefer solo now though). It was my first mmorpg and no other game has had such an affect on me.

WoW came close but it didnt take the number one spot for me.

Howbeit; when FFXIV came out I was hoping for the same but better and was completely dissappointed and canceled the game after the first 3 days... Sad. Lets see if ARR does well once it gets out on PS3 too.

Started it way back in 2003 and played it for years all the way up till the Wotg expantion.

    1. Took a long time to level, loved the pace of it.

    2. Very luck based, lot of items had low drop rates and had to work for everything.

    3. Lot of competition for NM's,

    4. There was  a TON of endgame, so much to do when you hit lvl 75, and all Group based/ Allience based.

    5. There was so many areas you got to explore and so much extra stuff you could do while you leveld, like bcnm's, escort mission's, campin NM's, farming, ect. always something to do.

    6. Your job you choose had its role all the way through the game, if you played a whm you would heal and support, if you played a paliden you would tank, if you played a warrior you would tank or DD. So many roles, and the entire game was Group focused.

    7. FFXI had a really great community, everyone needed help and wanted to help others, it just created so many bonds between ppl.

I really miss the old FFXI :( i literally played it maybe 4-5 years, every day loved every minute of it

    What server were you on?

For me this one is easy: Everquest

IT wasnt my first MMO but it was the one I knew was my home the first five minutes in the game....THrown into a world with no directions, no tutorials, no symobls over NPCs heads, and a rough brutal world just waiting for me to explore it......When I started there were very few max level players and it was such an accomplishment that it used to be broadcast whenever someone hit max level.....We had to work together with other players to survive and everyone had skills/abilities that were valuable.....No other game has captured what EQ did.....

    SWG Early

DaOC (pre TOA and the buffbot craze)

AC1 (I'd play this again if they upgraded their GFX)

    Vanguard

I'd have to say Ultima Online, but that's also partially biased by the fact that I already loved the single-player Ultima RPG series.  Still, Origin did a fantastic job of carrying over those "sandbox" elements from the Ultima series into a MMORPG environment, and it was almost perfectly executed.

I'd say a very close runner-up for "Best I ever played" would be Dark Age of Camelot.  I have many fond memories of my adventures in the realms of DAoC.

I've read several posts stating the same thing. What was it about CoH that was so cool? I never played it but I've read the freedom for character creation was one of the best features I have a feeling it must have been deeper than that to get so much love.

it was fanbase and community, toon creation and design, fan base and community, pvp, fanbase and community,i played from issue1 to the end and never got bored.freedom server.....daddy dee over 50 fifties,Man i miss that game

    Is AoC f2p now?

WoW has kept me entertained off and on for 8 years, so definitely the best in my mind. I'm taking a break currently, but I expect I'll be back AGAIN in the next couple months sometime. I don't think any MMO will ever give me such prolonged entertainment ever again, and the only other games I played extensively were Asheron's Call for three years, DAoC for a year, and FFXI for a year.

Nowadays, I'm lucky if I don't get bored in two weeks with every new MMO. :(

I loved SWG before they ruined it.

My first MMO was EQ1 and I loved it until lvl cap and LFG made me quit

CoX was one of the funnest me and my wife played

I like SWTOR but they wasted so much time and money on the "story telling"

Best overall game for me?  Eve Online

    My favorite game i've played (there's a difference!) ? Probably Eq1, maybe FF11 though.

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

    Sandbox type - UO

    Themepark - EQ

    RvR/PvP - DAoC

Best MMO in the last 6 years....Vanguard despite its problems, shame they got rid of the pvp servers and left it to rot for so long.

Vanguard and SWG had the best crafting/harvesting.

SWG pre CU. There were few other great MMOs during that time but I had the best guild and most fun in SWG.

WoW hands down. i've played mmo's for 12 years, but after playing WoW for 5 I haven't been able to get into another mmo. Everything else just seems like a crappy knock-off.

I'm hoping that ArcheAge changes my mmo drought though.

Everquest 1 and 2 guilds and housing is awesome and special mention to Vanguard for the crafting and the different classes the bard is awesome and really feels like you can be different from other bards by the way you combine your spells (have to have played it to know what i mean ) :)i see a lot of talk for innovation these days and even tho its an old game check vanguard out one of the best
