Anyone else having their AoW experienced ruined by WinRAR?

TuyetTuyet Member Posts: 135

I HATE  WinRAR.

I expect my games to download easily with just clicking on yep go ahead buttons.

Looks like I've got it figured out now but i really do hate WinRAR, looks like it defaulted to extracting to a folder that doesn't exist at least for my viewing, just had to re-etract to a folder i could access.

I posted on game forums to get help but then timed out and now cann't even log on there, thanks WinRAR.

lol, yea it was kinda weird todownload a .rar file..........other then that I had no problems extracting.

On a side not, the .rar file is 7 gigs and I extracted 7 gigs lmao? So to save some HDD space delete the .rar file lol.

You don't need WinRar to my knowlege. All I did was run the installer exe, and thats it. I didn't have to unplack the rar files.

I don't doubt that WinRAR isn't needed but I just tried to get the game installed. And like I said, I expect downloading a game to be easy unless there are instructions on the download page that would lead me to believe otherwise.

After the download finished, I ended up in a WinRAR window, so I tried "Extract To" using defaults.

After that I ended up in my desktop with no icons, no indication of anything being successful.

So then I asked for help on game forums, got a response in 10 mins or so but was anything but specific, so PM the responder for more help. Apparrently I've been banned or muted from the forums now - I cann't log onto the forums to post. The Forum post has been removed as best as I can tell.

Checking my e-mail, I find a confirmation e-mail from the company that takes the money from my bank account. However no e-mail from Snail Games that I have created an account -- that's sort of weird to me.

I've figured out how to extract the .rar files and run the game setup. I've run the game and created a character, I can still log on to the character selection screen even though I cann't log on to the forums.

Personally, I'ld take my money back but prob will just have to figure that that's $20 down the drain, doubt I can put up with being muted from a game forum for asking for help.

The first download link is a single WinRAR file which need to be extracted as the OP mentioned.

However, on the same webpage there is also a  6-part installer option the first time I checked (Dec 18th) which doesn't required WinRAR. This is the installation method I used.

Those who have a existing CBT1 client appeared to only require a patch of around 58 Mb.

Ready to get back into world of Wushu? -- aren't the server down till CB2 launch?

And if I'm not mistaken its not just the 7 gig file that needs deleting.

The 7 gig file extracts to 4 other .rar files that total 7 gigs too + at least the setup executable file which apparrently uses them.

For me I have 2 instances of the extacted files so I got 21 gigs to free up.

Use 7zip, WinRar keeps bugging you to pay for it or whatever if I recall right.

Unless you plan on needing to compress your own files into .rar's, 7zip works perfectly and quickly, and won't nag on you about anything.

    Hah, you're doing it wrong.

I only ever use WinRAR via Windows right-click. I never open up the actual program, so it never asks me to purchase.

Why use a shareware application though when 7-zip does what WinRAR does but better and completely for free? *shrug*

Yeah I hate having my entire experience with a game ruined by a very common program helpful in allowing me to download one file instead of many that doesn't even require any mouseclicks to get to the part where the game is installing.

    How horrible it is!

I will never understand games that make it hard for players to DL and update. FFXIV with its pathetic torrent client is a prime example. Now a poorly used WinRAR file and install.

Then even worse to make it hard for people to pay for the game, sub, shop...  WarZ accepts 30some different payment modes, yet Sony will only take Visa/MC?

Sorry, but this thread made me lol. User error strikes again. You could always try 7zip or one of the other 100s of programs that can handle rar archives.
