Hi everyone - I asked Jeff Hickman for some clarification for you on whether Makeb will feature an extension of class stories. Here's the info:
"The intent for Rise of the Hutt Cartel is to continue your character's story, but envisioned as part of the ongoing struggle of the Empire vs. the Republic. There are lots of great moments for you to enjoy, and it will be shared as two clear storylines. No class specific storylines are included, though I know you guys are going to love what RotHC has to offer."
We hope this helps clarify!
Well I guess it was only touched on before with various interview comments, but now it's written in stone. No new class stories.
Enjoy what class story you had because that was THE END. lol

The Enlightened take things Lightly
They always said as much.
Makeb was originally supposed to be a content update.
Here's an interview from May where Erickson ducks the class story question in regard to Makeb, http://www.darthhater.com/articles/swtor-news/20634-e3-2012-darth-hater-interview-with-daniel-erickson.
[Later interviews revealed that class story was taking a back seat. Hickman stepped in and muddied the waaters a bit.
I'm sure others can pint you to his comments. I'd rather not discuss Hickman.
Back to Erickson (who quit Bioware, apparently not keen on the way EA was remolding it)]
... and pimping Makeb at E3 as a content update, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qbPPrG4Xts&feature=player_embedded#t=236s
Here's Erickson reveals that Makeb was in development before SWTOR launched. http://www.gamefront.com/e3-2012-interview-lead-designer-daniel-erickson-on-the-past-and-future-of-swtor/2/
"Makeb went into production before we launched. They were already writing it, they were already doing concept art for it."
Another complete and utter failure on the part of EAWare.
Seriously, a year out and still no sign of the promised continuation of class stories? That's just pathetic.
And on top of that, they have the nerve to CHARGE for it. Unbelieveable.
Also, quoted for further reference in case someone argues about makeb stuff.
This have been a good conversation
It wasn't just Erickson:
"James Ohlen brags, “It is basically the biggest non-expansion pack piece of content that, I think, any online game has ever released at one time. It is a whole planet. I never heard of that being released, um, except in something like an expansion pack. It shows how much we really care about giving our fans what they have been asking for.”

Expansions in general are a bit of a cash grab. Just think back to the drama at Blizzard between Actvision, Vivendi, and Blizzard North in regard to WoW and TBC. (You wound up with Arenanet.)
The Makeb as an expansion is kind of unprecidented though.
If someone can think of an example of a company withholding either completed or nigh completed content for months on end to then charge for an expansion, please do tell.
Bioware made loads of mistakes, but EA killed any possibility of the game surviving long ago. Call it a combination Warhammer avoidance, stock price/takeover fear reaction.
I think they've been treading on water.
I don't even own a pitchfork.
Since people are including some nice quotes in this thread, I'll include another .. It's from a conversation with Damien Shubert that got snuck under the rug, specifically CE/VIP items will now go to the Cartel Market. TORWars deleted original statements and their comments, but .... they live forever in Googles cache .. thanks Google! (IE the interview with Duffy [http://dulfy.net/2012/11/16/swtor-f2p-future-content-interview-with-damion-schubert/] was modified). The cache links Duffy's interview and it's different.
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:VtMrXD_1hu4J:http://torwars.com/feed/podcast
You have to sift through cache content, because it's not as beautifully presented as an actual website. It's just a text dump with some photo links.

i´m not one for defending SWTOR, but the whining for "class stories´" is pathetic.
what do you expect, everyone at lvl50 ist basically a galactic hero, there is no personal story from now on.
Now everyone is facing the same threats, this is not another little "from zero to hero" or "from padawan to jedi master" story.
It´s over. Time to move on

Yeah, except for the fact that class stories were TOUTED AS A MAJOR FEATURE OF THE FUCKING GAME.
God forbid we want some kind of advancement of a feature which may have drawn folks to the game in the first place.
Oh, and by saying everyone is a 'galactic hero' at level 50 pretty much proves you haven't played more than 1 class to cap. There's a LOT of ambiguity based on personal choices, and many storylines end on a cliffhanger of sorts.
I won't apologize for asking for what was promised. Giving people a 'factional story arc' is a lazy way out, and you goddamn well know it.
Whining for class stories?
It WAS A MAJOR SELLING POINT AND ASSURED THAT IT WILL CONTINUE "FOREVER"
Fail is a fail. Yah, its over lol
Exactly. Thank you!
I was beginning to feel like I was the only one who remembered this. Kinda how when politicians (of BOTH parties, not picking sides here) don't follow up on campaign promises, and nobody seems to care or notice. Drives me absolutely bonkers.

as dark council member or emperor killer, we had more than enough "personal story".
How about focusing on goddamn GAMEPLAY instead of another 20 GIGs of voiceovers?
SWG had more gameplay in its little finger, tbh.
Hope they do the right thing and skip the whole VO part and unify some ressources.
But anyway, since they don´t allow purchasing with my cartel coins I got, I´ll pass until this goes to the cartel shop

Class story = save public from superweapon.
On every planet.
All and everytime i am the savior of the Galaxy.
So let me ask you, what would i have to expect from a continued class story ?
In reference to post #10 above, I sifted through the raw data and found that it wasn't any F2P / Makeb comment that got Shuberts comments omitted from his interview (and thus the TORWars article deleted), it was that he said the CE/ / VIP items were going to go to the Cartel Market.
Just updating that.
(The world wasn't ready to hear that, so TORWars deleted the interview, but google cache lives on!)

Not trying to argue, but I thought Makeb was supposed to be JUST two levels when they were originally planning on it releasing for free.
Is that true or what? As five levels is basically 2 1/2 planets of content, which I think would qualify as an xpac (if it were actually 3 planets <.<). But at 9.99, meh.
i wouldnt be surprised if Makeb has no voice acting at all.... Like Age of Conan did outside of Tortage.
I really like SW:TOR tbh. One of few that does. I really enjoyed leveling my characters and played the game more as an SRPG than as a MMORPG - which is probably why I liked it. Something I loved, especially, was the story; and I have been defending them game (albeit not much on these forums).
That said. FU EAware. It's bad enough that they give us an 'expansion' that we subbers have to pay for additionally, and that its content at this moment looks lackluster to say the least, but to not even continue with the stories of our characters? One of very few things that this game had going. I see absolutely no reason I should waste money on this - and I won't. And tbh, in the light of this I, for the first time, think I'm done with this game for good.
TSW's gameplay isn't as attractive to me, nor their story format, but by Thors hairy butt, it sure as ragnarök seems they take care of their playerbase (lifers excluded, perhaps) - unlike SW:TOR.
Considering this.. I've also lost what little hope I had for Dragon Age III..... Sigh... Ah well...
because luke skywalker NEVER had anymore stories about him after he beat Darth Vader. There's always a bigger fish.
In a themepark game, the answer is clear! .. rawfox will save the Universe this time. Are you a Universe Savior yet? Didn't think so .. wait till you get the title, everyone will be so happy for you!

No, its 1 planet.
Every planet past starter/capital worlds(except Quesh) has at least 5 levels of content:
4 levels of solo quests
bunuse series (varies/planet) - on Makeb it will be new dailies just as Belsavis/Ilum
repeatable heroic quests
Makeb is your regular SWTOR zone with few quest hubs and no class story, nothing more.
And they never said 2 levels, they were debating from no level change to 5 levels.
Its content update that got renamed to expansion just so they can slap a price tag on it since they specifically said subscription will cover content updates AND they specifically said Makeb is NON-EXPANSION content update. That is, until they renamed it to "expansion" and slapped a price tag on it.
Makeb is simply just a calculated money grab.. plain and simple.. Appearantly it was intended to be a content patch, assuming Bioware was going to have all these "millions" of subscribers, but that didn't happen.. So now they are desperate for cash and here comes Makeb.. No longer free.. Will it piss people off? Sure it will, but I'm sure the accountants at Bioware have already calculated that a certain percentage will still BUY the content, and praise it... another percentage will feel forced to buying it while bitching, because they don't want to be left out.. and a smaller portion will actually say "screw it" and cancel.. I'm sure Bioware doesn't care about that smaller portion anyways, because they were already sitting on the fence in quitting anyways.. This is why Makeb is only $10 and $20 to buy, and not the traditional 40 or 50 for a FULL expansion..
IF SWTOR is still around a year later you might see another puchasable content patch too.. So much for free stuff, while paying a monthly sub.... Which gets one to thinking.. What is the monthly sub paying for, if not for patches like Makeb?
