1.) What have they changed since launch? More PvE zones? More dungeons? More PvP? Class balance? Class changes?

2.) What do they sell in the cash shop? Is it all vanity and boosters or can you buy power?

3.) Did they increase performance? The game ran like crap at launch.

4.) Did they balance PvP? Tanks and healers were almost unkillable when I played.

If youre in it for PvP just skip SWTOR, PvP is in much worse state than it was at launch, and yes, tank+healer is still pretty unkillable unless whole team focus them (especially operative/scoundrel healers).

They have added now 2 warzones but removed open world PvP and its not coming back.

It runs a bit better but still nothing to write home about.

Incorrect. Open world PvP is 'coming back' around February/March according to the latest livestream Q&A. :)

It keeps getting pushed back though :/  So, given EA's history on giving dates,  I would take what they say with polite hesitation..

That could be true for any release dates EA might hint at (ah hem .. HK51 trailers for 6 months anyone?), with the exception for those timelines promised to investors, as in the case of the F2P transition.

It was originally planned to come out January 2013, but when that date was getting too close, it was bumped back a couple months.

GamesCom 2012: Interview with Gabe Amatangelo

    By Nominiel 8/16/2012 7:06:13 PM

    http://www.darthhater.com/articles/swtor-news/21321-gamescom-2012-interview-with-gabe-amatangelo

Next one, very recent, yesterday The Grand Acquisition Race came online. Anything you can tell about world events? Are they coming more often or, just every few months, every year?

Our long-term plan is to get the world events to be really frequent, and we’re going to continue to add them to the game. In the immediate future, we have this one, and then we’ve got another one that is actually going to be – so we’re going to have, what we want to do, is in January, what we’re targeting to do, this may or may not happen, so you can’t hold me to it. But what we’re targeting to do, is have a fun anniversary to the Ilum shenanigans that happened. An alien race might invade, and they might crash into Ilum and there might be some new activities that happen on the planet. We’re targeting that for, January is when we’d like to see it, but we’ll see when it happens, you can’t hold me to that! I know how everyone does, and then I’m going to have the Executive Producer on me saying “you said a date!” and it’s like “no, no” but that is our target, because that’s when we’d like to have it because of the spirit of, and just sort of laughing at what happened.

Mikahr's concerns are shared by many though, mainly because the modified Hero graphics engine used by SWTOR can't handle groups of clustered players very well.  In SWTOR, an 8 vs 8 with everyone on-screen will drop FPS down from 60-80 fps down to the 20's, and a 20 vs 20 will turn the game into a slide show.  Big massive PVP would lock my PC up, as my comptuer spent all it's cycles loading / writing to a swap file, and it had no time leftover to update the frames.  In a majorly released game that came out 8-9 months after SWTOR (that shall not be named), I would get 60 fps or just under in large scale PVP, at least with the same # of enemies as SWTOR would have, for comparison.

My own concern with EA reopening world PVP is that they would need to revamp the graphics engine.  Which is not being discussed by EA currently.  Their last promise to fix the engine (that I saw) was August 2012, when a customer rep came on their forums and assured angry pro-optimization posters that the graphics engine is continually being worked on (http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=5091079#post5091079).  I haven't seen major improvements, though.

TLDR: I'll believe it when I see it.

Some class re-balancing, additional FPs, new Operations - including nightmare difficulty, daily zones (Corelia, Belsavis - Section X, Awesome Quest series for HK-51 - new companion added, new Warzones, new heroic Space Missions.

2.) What do they sell in the cash shop? Is it all vanity and boosters or can you buy power?

Cash shop sells: xp boosters, addaptive full armor sets level 31, addaptive chest pieces - level 42 I believe, lightsaber crystals, unlocks for F2P, cartel boxes ... sigh, carbonite chamber!!!!!!!, pets....

3.) Did they increase performance? The game ran like crap at launch.

There have been many changes done to increase performance, changed shadows, added some cool lighting effects, etc, I never had problems so hard for me to say if it's going to be better on your comp or not. Some people had significant increase in performance, and some had problems... you will have to check how it goes on your computer.

4.) Did they balance PvP? Tanks and healers were almost unkillable when I played.

They implemented some changes affecting some classes, like sorcs... who were very unhappy about it...  I don't PvP, so can't really say.

    Hope it helps.

They added essentially more of the same (instanced PVE / PVP / upcoming new missions for single player space combat).  The major stuff people wanted:  working casinos / meaningful social spots, SW card games (Pazaak, Sabaac), SW competitive mini-games like Swoop Racing, Pod Racing (OK wrong time era, but legacy already screwed everything up), Open world PVP, SGRA, brand new ideas for stuff to do is largely absent.  Still no chat bubbles.  Still can't sit in chairs.  Still no weather effects or day/night cycle.  The graphics engine doesn't support congregations of players.  The world is as static as ever.

Dont forget that everything dealing with holiday events can be found with a price tag in the Cartel cash shop..

You can buy power, although not exclusive power, from what I've seen.  You can Pay to Skip, if that makes sense.  As an example, you can buy legacy unlocks instead of working for them.  You can buy many aspects to the MMORPG experience by simply buying stuff in SWTOR.  No credits?  No problem, use cash instead.  No time?  No problem, money will let you skip extensively playing the game.

3.) Did they increase performance? The game ran like crap at launch.

Some people had significant increase in performance, and some had problems... you will have to check how it goes on your computer.

Some significant changes to the fleet for performance (breaking the fleet down into a bunch of mini instances via "sectioning").  Worlds didn't get that luxory, because (speculative) it's very time intensive to implement and server power consuming, judging from how long it even took EA to get fleets done alone.  Whether my speculation is right or wrong, worlds and PVP maps still suffer from major graphical fps issues, compared to other games.

4.) Did they balance PvP? Tanks and healers were almost unkillable when I played.

They implemented some changes affecting some classes, like sorcs... who were very unhappy about it...  I don't PvP, so can't really say.

Overuse of CC is still a problem.  EA still allows premades to stomp pugs, and even went so far as to allow full ranked teams to queue Warzones and stomp pugs while they wait for another ranked team to challenge them.  If you do WZ's as a pug, except to lose .. a lot.

Agree though with Sevenstar61, Sorcs took a big nerf to healing.  They went from vastly overpowered to vastly underpowered.  So .. hardly balanced, I'd say.  Overpowered classes get punished rather than balanced...

    Hope it helps.

Well yes and no... in a post interview a dev stated they won't exactly bring back Illum or an open world PvP but more events based around PVP.

These events won't be persistent either but would eventually come back weekly or monthly maybe.

Is F2P, just try it for yourself. But pretty much everything from the cartel market can be brought with ingame money, and yes, the performance is really a lot better. And tanks and healers unkillable?, no, i never saw that ingame

Please state that you MUST subscribe to be able to buy any unlocks using ingame currency, because no one is going to sell you anything for a measly 350k since thats your currency cap for f2p players and 200k for players who never purchased any coins from the cartel market. It either you bloody well subscribe at least for a few months if u like to play the game or just dont bother. You gotta be really really extremely tolerant patient to be able to play under their f2p conditions from lvl 1 to 50.

This, but the F2P is so restrictive it hinders playing experience.

There is a few more dungeons/raids.  There is two new warzones since launch.  Class balance is meh, changes galore.

2.) What do they sell in the cash shop? Is it all vanity and boosters or can you buy power?

They sell color crystals that give lvl 50 equivilant stats, armor, and today they added ship upgrades for the space missions.  It is pretty much a pay2win market now.  With lottery chests.

3.) Did they increase performance? The game ran like crap at launch.

Runs like crap still, usually not so bad because the population sucks.  But when it's peak hours it can get laggy.

4.) Did they balance PvP? Tanks and healers were almost unkillable when I played.

Healers are very very killable now, tanks are just ignored.

    Hi Sevenstar61!

Hi Karteli... don't ya love me image

Actually worlds are instanced as well. And the amount of players on each world vary.

From my experience the starter worlds have instances of about 100 players per instance. Capital world (Coruscant and Dromund Kaas) have both about 200 players per instance - yesterday I was on Dromund Caas and there were 167 players in second instance. Nar Shadda - around 80-100 players. Not sure about other planets, but I would say about 100-200 players per world. Daily areas... 40 to 60.

Legacy unlocks. They were available for unlock for credits, you did not have to work for them unless you wanted and it only affected races. All other stuff you had to buy for credits, now they added option for cartel coins.

You cannot unlock any stuff related to species - you still have to work on them.

Not PvP fan so I am not going to comment PvP.

What he really said was that Illum won't come back as a world PVP zone nor there would be any new dedicated PvP zone either.

Then he stated world PvP will come back as timed events that eventually will be repeated from week to week or month after month.

on number 1, i just resubbed last month and still leveling. So unsure about that as i don't play my two 50's. They added warzones , some ops/flashpoints from what i could tell. Not a new zone for pve from what i could see so far.

they sell a lot of power, this is probably the strangest cash shop i've seen in terms of the packs/gear. The people getting screwed right now are the subscribers....lol

i've noticed some increased performance but still have to run on low settings while i run borderlands 2, bf3, gw2 on max settings nop prob.

healers are still incredibly strong. PvP balance was never disastrous in swtor as in other games. There is so much cc it's just a matter of who has the most cooldowns up.

    1) The game is certainly better in some areas.  For PvE, the LFG tool combined with server merges and F2P are some great additions for the PvE crowd who like to do operations and flashpoints. In general, PvE also got a few more operations to do. So, the PvE front seems to be better by a reasonable amount but nothing super drastic. For PvP, the downside is that Ilum PvP was removed and there is no indication that it is going to be fixed anytime soon.  Also on the downside is class balance, which remains a problem and Bioware's responses don't indicate they think it's an issue.  The upside is that there are 2 new warzones to fight and ranked PvP, but you better be one of the "preferred overpowered classes" to play.

    2) Cash shop is mostly vanity, some xp boosts but if you're level 50 it's vanity.

    3) Runs slightly better in my opinion, but not by much.  You might not notice it as much since large-scale PvP isn't possible anymore with the removal of Ilum as a PvP destination.  If you keep the game small-scale, it runs okay.

    4) PvP is currently unbalanced, and it is easier to stun folks although the range of stuns was reduced as an offset.  My tank is unkillable. Some DPS classes way outdamage other DPS classes.  Operative/scoundrel healers are way better at healing than other healers....etc.  So, if you have the "preferred" class for the specific roll, you think it's all okay. If you happen to play a specific roll with a non-preferred class, you'll be very frustrated.   However, Bioware remains ignorant of the differences as they looked at kill/death reported ratios at the end of warzones to determine balance.  As you know, if you do 1 point of damage to someone that eventually dies, you get a kill credit.  Thus, if you do 25% of the damage and the other DPS player can do 75% of the damage, you both get credit and are equal in Bioware's view, but ranked PvP players only want the class that does the 75% of the damage, not the one that does 25% of the damage.   And for defensive tanks, I'm still pretty much unkillable with an oprative healer (and with my guard, the operative healer is pretty much unkillable).

In conclusion, if you just want to PvE, this game is okay.  If you want warzone PvP, you better have the right class and not care so much about class balance.  If you want large-scale PvP, this game isn't for you.  If you only want to experience some of the class stories, best bet is to just go F2P and make a new account since your old account might not have enough character spaces to do the new stories.
