Wanted: New 2D Sandboxgame

Can anyone suggest a great 2D sandbox game to me? I really liked UO back when it was new, So im kinda looking for a UO-clone with fresh, up to date 2d grafic. A game where the devs have concentrated on gamemechanics and content instead of fancy 3D grafic.

    I find wakfu pretty damn cool. Like UO there is a ton of freedom. You actually affect the world in some form too. I think the game is pretty neat. I jump into for an hour here and there. The 2D graphics are pretty damn good to be quite honest. At first they turned me off due to some of the cutesy crap, but you aren't stuck with that stuff at all.

    This is more like a 2D Minecraft than it is a UO-like game. That's not a bad thing, mind you; I've had loads of fun playing Terraria, but I don't think it's what the OP is looking for.

    Knotan, have you considered EUO? From the website: "EUO is a 2D retro multiplayer online MMORPG inspired by the early Ultimas, Nethack, Diablo, gold-box AD&D, Magic Candle, etc." I played that for a while too, and it was my favorite MMORPG for about 4 months straight.

    I stopped, however, because before (I'm not sure if it's still available now), there was a hardcore server with permadeath enabled. When my character died, so did my drive to play. In hindsight, I should've just played in the regular server.

    Understood, the graphics are good for a nostalgia trip but it really doesn't hold up all that well. What are some "must have" sandbox features you're looking for?

    Player built housing---->citys.

    Player generated economy, most items are craftable. Except very rare shinys.

    Quality on craftables based on skills.

    Traditional rpg skill attributes thats lets you train by doing.

    Nice looking 2d grafics

     

    That is my criteria. basicly UO in a nicer looking package.

    look through the last few days of posts there is a new fffree vanilla uo server up! when I have more time soon I'm going to pllay! 

    nevermind turns out free servers are not legal i'm sorry

    What are "up to date" 2D graphics if UO isn't?  The days when this console had a huge advantage over that one because it could have more and larger sprites on the screen at once are long since over.

    You know, if you want UO, you can play UO. Just play on one of countless private servers. It's the most up-to-date 2d graphics you'll find.

    I think you'll have better luck finding something that fits your criteria on Kickstarter, Knotan. But I do hope you find what you're looking for, and if you do, please share! I'll keep my eyes open as well.

    I guess its doing alright. It needs more players, but i am new myself, so i couldnt tell you what has changed or not.

    I've never heard of that game. I PM'ed you. Looks like something I could really get into! I'm going to try and dig up more detailed info regarding the whole F2P plan.
