Its a popular model to milk money from people Basically making you pay to gamble. Its quite popular (and successful) in Asian MMos, not to surprising to see them take advantage of this as well. Heck, GW2 does the same thing with their chests already. Just a nice easy way to rake in cash with chance.
I've returned to the game recently and spent all my cartel credits on these packs. I got the throne speeder, 4+ pink crystals, the elite/non elite longspur, and a load of other useful (as well as useless) items.
I'm quite happy, but would love the Nihlus mask/white crystal but am assuming the chances of getting one of those is next to zero.
Q: How often will new gear become available on the Cartel Market?
Hickman: Our intent is to update it weekly. Add one or two new things, changes some prices. There will be an update next week. There will be a big update before the holidays.
Schubert: We have a new cartel pack with super rare items planned for each month for the next several months.
Hickman: New Life Day items coming soon. Life Day robes, orbs, tinsel bomb, and the Czerka LD-1 Celebrator - something red, festive, and you can ride it.
Schubert: We'll be adding new stuff regularly. We want to add archetypal armor, stuff that looks like a traditional Jedi Knight and the iconic classes.
New Cartel PAck. NOOOOOOO!!!!!! Sigh... need more coins LMAO
Im just wondering if i have the facts strait before i start laughing at people who spend money on this.
You spend real money on a box then you open it and you MIGHT get somthing good out of it? and the somthing good is vanity crap like speeder or a flag or mask or somthing?
are you people serious?
No they're serious. People really are that addicted to their virtual world goodies. They want the speical item so they can flash it around and say "Look at me, I'm a special snowflake."
This whole thing reminds me of how baseball card fans flash around their special rookie and rare expensive cards after blowing through tons of worthless packs and bubblegum.

If they'd buy these items NORMALLY I'D even consider buying a few of them. But putting my fate in the hands of moddy Lady Luck... no way. My dad worked in a casino, and the only one winning from gambling is the casino itself!

Those packs have a very, very slim chance to contain anything useful. I had some extra money this months and bough 8 Crime Lords Packs, and I got NOTHING of use. It's just a scam. If you see people with that flying throne or Nihilus mask or White Saber Crystal, they are extremely lucky. You can see the chance is slim and you may end up investing much into nothing. I had expected the chance for something cool was bigger. Alas, it wasn't.
It's just a scam.
Consider yourself warned.
Where have you been this past decade living in a cave Elikal? gamble boxes are a mainstay of F2P games and the chances to get anything is very slim, some games actually tell you the odds like 2% to get a cool mount. I thought this was known or are people that gullible? even The Saviour ™ GW2 has them.

This reminds me of Blizzards WoW card game that had a chance of having a rare cosmetic item in each pack.

Snap out of it! Just stop buying once and for all !
Remember in gambling, it is house (in this case EA) that wins, not consumer.
More money you throw at it, more house wins it.
