UW info breakdown, 192 Specialisations!

JupstoJupsto Member UncommonPosts: 2,075

This article is an in-depth breakdown of info on Unholy Wars mostly focused on the recent interface dev diary posted below. Some of the info discussed is obvious, but some is new and interesting, that I doubt anyone else has figured out. I've managed to calculate some interesting things such as starting and endgame health pools, 192 class specialisations.

Enjoy.

Nice writeup but i wouldn't count the boosters tbh but that is my opinion.

You could add the information about crafting we have. That we get basic designs and the outcome depends on the rare ore used.

And maybe the new village system

Im not sure I could face doing an write up on all information that we have. the truth is such a thing would likely contain many innaccuracies.

alot of the info they have given in past has changed, like the common skills in this post used to be part of "minor incantations" according to older AV blog post.

sources of information conflict depending on date, so I'd generally stick to the most recent stuff. we did see a list of crafting skills in the recent video, but the last blog post about how crafting will work is quite old and it might have already changed drastically.

Lets be real.  There isn't 192 ways to specialize.  People shouted that the original would have endless possibilities and it ended up with one.   Just max everything.  Best we can hope for is that DF:UW will have more than one.

TBH, I would be happy with 3 or 4, and some non-combat specializations.

I dont think anyone is naive enough to think there will be 192 viable builds, but there fact there are that many possible options gives hope to a decent amount of viable builds.

Wow someone posted this here also?

192 is completely incorrect and was founded upon some really stupid assumptions and poor math skills.

Boosters are not different builds.  Each class will use one of the boosters...it isn't a customization mechanic.

There are 8 possible builds per class.  You have 4 choices for your main role and then only 2 for your secondary (because one of the leftover 3 will be blocked as an opposing school).

    8 role combos per class * 4 classes = 32 builds.

Stop posting this garbage article on every gaming forum.  It's wrong.

stop speculating about stuff that has not been confirmed yet. For all we know both of these assumptions might aswell be wrong.

    1. there was never any incorrect maths

    2. boosters are definitely a customisation mechanic, this is proven in the video if you watch carefully, when 1 role has its pools changed by switching between strength and dex boosters.

    3. about opposing schools, see my blogs edit:

Pherhaps the only valid criticism of this post is that previously AV have stated there will be opposing schools. The last mention I can find of was 6 months ago in this june 08 blog post, back when the project was still called 2.0. If this now pointless feature was kept you'd expect it to be mentioned in any of the more recent role system posts, such as "unholywars role system description". But its true we cannot rule out the possibility which would needlessly reduce our 192 figure down to 128.

    1. Yes, your math is incorrect. AV stated very clearly that opposing schools will cancel each other out, and has not stated that anything has changed.

    2. Maybe. I really do not see a lot of variations on the builds by the boosters though, unless mages are going to boost STR.

    3. They have called this project DF 2010, DF Arena, DF2.0 and DF UW. If you have been paying attention to AV the last few years, you should be well aware that the names change regularly, and further, you should know that they have a tendency to leave things alone after they build them. You are the ONLY person who has made assertions about the removal of opposing schools blocking each other, based entirely on your opinion that the feature is "pointless", and you have done it on many forums. Maybe you are spreading this disinformation in the hopes that they will make the change, but I would not hold your breath.
