This game was not designed for casual solo players. If you dont like teamwork, co operation and socialising go play the plethora of themepark clones all very catered to your tastes.

the only real problem with that argument, is that the F2P crowd are usually the casual solo types that flit from game to game in the first place, with little real attachment or loyalty to any one game. image

The reason why I got bored within 1 day is because it's the same thing. Defend this base. Attack that base. I mean that is it.

I personally like being a sniper, but you can't snipe aircraft or tanks. If you want to make certs as a free player you MUST go heavy infantry for the rocket launcher.

The other way to make certs is to capture a base. That is boring for me. I want to kill people and snipe them. But it's impossible as an infiltrator. Sure I've had my good runs where I sniped 10 with headshots before I ran out of ammo. But it's subpar compared to the other classes that can make way more bank.

I cannot see myself playing this game much longer unless I feel like a 20-30 minute FPS urge. It's just not worth it when people out there spend hundreds of dollars to upgrade every aspect of their infantry, vehicles, and aircraft, to become more "skilled" than you.

Did I mention sony made the game?

People don't become more skiled than you because they buy different weapons, DIFFERENT weapons, Not better.

The game is nothing like Tribes, It's a fps with mmo elements if you don't like fps you won't like planetside.

People will moan about anything these days.

The game deliveres on what it claimed to be.

It has as much point as any standard MMO, albeit in a different fashion.

Certs are your gear grind, battle ranks your levels, weapons your shiny loots.

Just imagine yourself going from quest hub to quest hub winning the day.

Or not, and quit, either works for me.  I enjoy the hell out of the game BECAUSE it's not like every other game out there.

And to use GW2's argument, feel free to cancel your subscriptions.

Heh - once you play with an organized outfit then you see how fun this game is coordinating platoon squads and galaxy drops on hot spots....  Lot of fun but if you are trying to play solo you will not have anywhere near as much fun.....

Not noticed many bugs either and a great game.  This game is basically a MMO FPS shooter NOT a MMO....  If you are looking for anything more than a shooter then yes you did not do your homework and the game will get boring for you lol

But if you like playing BF#.CoD but on 3 MASSIVE continents with hundreds of players it is a shooter's dream especially when you roll with an outfit.

While I agree with you that generaly PS2 catters to clans and team play (even if just for sheer scale) I need to point out it doesn't deter a casual solo player either.

It is solo friendly just like any other shooter.

When I play MMORPGs I look for guilds more often than not. But playing shooters it's the other way around. I go in a shooter to relieve my mind of interaction, just me and my rifle alone shooting other players. I played PS2 beta solo and through this experience I really don't see anything different than soloing (for example) BF3. Even there you can potentialy do much better if you cooperate with other competent people but that doesn't mean solo is not enjoyable.

I stopped reading here. You're obviously playing the wrong game. I see a lot of other people on here raging and hating this game because they think it's so unorganized. Yeah if you just hop into the closest galaxy and get dropped off at the fight - don't expect organization. I've seen and been part of far more organized assaults in the 3 days this game has been out than the year I played in BF3.

I was in beta since it first started but I didn't spend much time playing it, now that it's live it's starting to grow on me and it's fairly fun.

BTW don't waste time with camos, many of them look butt ugly and some of them make you look like someone from the other faction (like a yellow camo VS looking like a NC and gets shot at many times by his own teammates) and vehicle auras look like ass. Stick to improving your character rather than looking pretty.

My two complaints at this point are base design, everything winds up in a bottleneck at some point. We screamed about it during beta but apparently there just wasn't enough time to correct the issue. Now I'm happily sitting in the top 50 leaderboard because I sit in these bottlenecks with a max and an engineer on my bum. 100+ Kills an hour ... easiest experience.

And Liberators ..... holy eff why did SoE buff them to the point of being Godlike? I run with five buddies, four have anti air rockets and I as a Burster Max can't take a Lib down before it gets out of range. It's absurd and these Libs aren't even the upgraded beasts yet.

You can't compare them in my opinion. Both are shooters. That's it.

This pertains to the "f2p" system they have. Sure you can slowly and painstakingly (did I mention slowly?) get your gear and level up to new better armor and weapons. But the reason why games like these have a "pay to not grind" system is because people WILL and DO pay for this.

Yeah, I purshased Alpha Squad (and AFTER I got beta invite !) because I think that developers who made games like P2 should be supported. But I don't understand your problems with F2P systems. I think it's quite good and I'm a person who overall HATE F2P.

Except exp bonus for subscribers (that is unerstable, they pay per month so they should have bonuses) only think you can unlock are additional weapons. And trust me - those weapons are not so great. Everything come with some kind of trade.

High fire rate == low damage and low accuracy

High damage == low fire rate or range

High accuracy == very slow firing rate

High range == pain in the a** while shooting things from far away + slow fire rate or low damage for better fire rate

So having next weapon is not so great since you can score REALLY high with what you have.

So now you are matched against people with the best upgrades because they have dispoable income. Personally I do not think this makes a great game.

You see, you are wrong. You can unlock weapons but you can't unlock upgrades. And upgrades DO make difference. You can't upgrade armor or anything else.

All money can do for you in P2 is:

    - first place in login queue

    - other weapons (not uber weapons, they just different)

    - visual style change (new armor, new decals and camo - stuff like that)

That's probably everything. I did well in beta. My kill/death ration was more than 2 and at some point better than 3. Now it's higher than 2. Not because I have new weapon unlocked for money (and it's only thing I unlocked - weapon for heavy assault + 2 weapons for transport vehicle).

But I have reference. I had problem with cash shop and I did not purchase anything in first 2 days. And in those 2 days I scored more than 300 points for unlockables.

If I would keep this up, I would unlock my weapon in another 4-5 days. But those were only free 2 days I had so I speed things up with money.

So my 300 points went into armor, unlockables for weapon (nightview + forward grip) and some things for my transport vehicle I usually use (others can spawn when I deploy it).

On a more personal note, I hate team based games. I do not like having to be in a guild/clan whatever to have fun. I do not like teamspeak. I do not like following orders else I be kicked. I do not like snobby leaders that think they are god's best creation.

So ? I'm lone wolf too. No one kick me or anything. Did you EVER played this game ? I'm lone wolf not because I dislike people or something. It's just because my playstyle. I love to sneak in and make a mess while using silencer. I can kill few people and score nice kill streak before they put me down. And I usually park nerby my transport vehicle to go back and do this again.

Just by carefull killing and constanly changing positions I can make a mess. Mess that will allow others to invide because of one or few lone wolfs who keep people in base because they search for us.

Besides that, this game has many bugs, crashes, and overall poor game development.

Nope. I had problems with cash shop in first day but after that - no problems. Game don't crash, roon nice even while I have more than 50 people on the screen (once I put my transport vehicle near enemy base and peple just keep spawning and spawning to nerby hill). No bugs, hit points are OK, no falling from maps or other stuff. Game is well made.

The reason why I got bored within 1 day is because it's the same thing. Defend this base. Attack that base. I mean that is it.

Yeah, it's MMOFPS with perma battlefield. What did you expect ? Player housing ?

I personally like being a sniper, but you can't snipe aircraft or tanks. If you want to make certs as a free player you MUST go heavy infantry for the rocket launcher.

Yeah right :P Are you trolling or something ? This game is sniper haven. They have cloak. They have high range (limited only by visual range) and serious damage. They can kill you with 1 bullet (headshot required). And on open space it's almost impossible to get close. Only with vehicles. And they can just cloak and move away before you get there.

Kill and relocate. Like true sniper.

Are you kidding ? Only one with ammo is engineer. And he is weak but helps with tanks. Heavy is great because of the shield and heavy machine gun but he have low accuracy compare to other classes. You need control your shoots. Mid range class overall. Easy to kill if you aim for the head and shield is off (and he must turn it on/off). Light is weak in defense but assault rifle is deadly and accurate. And jetpack allow him to move like no one else can. Sniper can move undetected and have great rifle but he require high precission shoots.

In other words I can score high with sniper just by taking good position and killing. I can't count how many times some guys were stuck one next to another near some corner. Cloak and throw granade between them (did that in beta - +10 kills!!!!) or cloak, flank them and snipe them.

Just because you bad does not mean game is bad. Sorry.

I cannot see myself playing this game much longer unless I feel like a 20-30 minute FPS urge. It's just not worth it when people out there spend hundreds of dollars to upgrade every aspect of their infantry, vehicles, and aircraft, to become more "skilled" than you.

You can't upgrade every aspect. Did you even checked ? You can unlock weapons. Everything else (weapon upgrades, player upgrades, vehicle upgrades) can't be bought by money. And there are no overpowered weapons in the game.

Did I mention sony made the game?

Sony is a publisher. They didn't MAKE the game. There was studio that made first planetside - they made the game. Also you lack of knowledge make me think you didn't even PLAYED PLANETSIDE 2.

Also I must say that most of things you mentioned are WRONG.

Maybe your problems is that you have no skills ? My friend was killed over and over (around 10 deaths for every kill he score) before he got used to the game.

PS2 requires co-ordination and teamwork, TA not so much.

PS2 is a persistent world, TA is not.

The only thing they have in common is they are sci-fi FPS.

how does PS2 not require any skill?

it requires just as much skill as any other shooter.

and with the amount of enemies you face, yes you need to be good if you want your kill to death ratio to be in the green

Yeah, this is pretty telling. I'd say single player games would be a better fit, or maybe console shooters just for the multiplayer mode. I find that PS2 is about 50% more fun when I am in a communicating squad/platoon.

I can't say much about the infiltrator because I never play as a sniper, can't stand them personally. All in all the upgrades aren't that major and you can't buy certs so you can't buy your way to the top, although you can buy a 50% exp boost, but like I said earlier certs are already very easy to get so it's not that big of a deal.

would you mind telling me and other people how you gain certs easily? I mean I have a specific gameplay style I like to play but infiltrator is not cutting it. What do you do that gaines maximum certs efficiently?

And althought efficiency is always best, it's not always fun (imo). If I have to play a certain class or join a squad or just deploy in areas when my team is about to capture a base, then I do not understand the fun aspect of it.

Not here to troll or say you are wrong, but maybe I just do not understand these games. I want to be something I like playing and not have to jump around every minute just to get certs, if you know what I mean.

Infiltrater gets boned on the progression system.  Here you have a class that is a "one shot one kill" class that isn't designed to mow fields full of people down, yet they still seem to be applying progression in a way that punishes you for playing that class.

At least that's how it feels.

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. QFT. I've never played a game that had less of a point. This was a rush job, no question.

does any game really have a point?

Depends on how you define "point" (this might be better suited for the pub, but..)

In pac-man or tetris, the point is to get to the next level.  In WoW, the point is kind of like that, too.  It's all about getting to the next level, in one way or another.  In UO, the point was to get a big house, stock a vendor really well, tame a dragon, etc, etc  so you can have more lateral goals as well, but its still the feeling of progression of some form or another.  In many SP games, the point is mostly just to see how the story plays out, especially these days, as that seems to be more and more the case with games.

In games based on single matches, whether it's baseball, chess, or CoD, the point is more to just win the match.  Or at least keep practicing so that you can eventually win some matches.  The problem of adding persistence to the equasion is that people start looking for more of a point that that.  There is no match to win, if the game just goes on forever, so..?

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Slow? Maybe, but that's subjective to your playstyle. The differences in armor/weapons that you can buy is very negligible. There simply isn't 1 weapon better than the other, they all have advantages and disadvantages.

So now you are matched against people with the best upgrades because they have dispoable income. Personally I do not think this makes a great game.

Again, there is NO best upgrade... There are sidegrades.

On a more personal note, I hate team based games. I do not like having to be in a guild/clan whatever to have fun. I do not like teamspeak. I do not like following orders else I be kicked. I do not like snobby leaders that think they are god's best creation.

Sorry you feel that way, but the game is definitely playable solo. but it is an empire effort to achieve anything... Sorry that there's nothing there to hold your hand like other game where killing is the only goal. All your gripes against leaders/outfits leads me to believe that you just have bad luck. There a many outfits that are very professional and know what they are doing... they also do not force you to play their way.

Besides that, this game has many bugs, crashes, and overall poor game development.

I don't experience any issues... maybe take it up to the official forums and get it sorted out?

The reason why I got bored within 1 day is because it's the same thing. Defend this base. Attack that base. I mean that is it.

Maybe that's all you see with your very narrow-minded view. This isn't BF or CoD where it IS just that and with that same view you can easily classify any game that way. There is a lot to accomplish in Planetside and so many different ways to do them... No battle is the same.

I personally like being a sniper, but you can't snipe aircraft or tanks. If you want to make certs as a free player you MUST go heavy infantry for the rocket launcher.

That's definitely not the only way to gain certs. You could remain as a scout and not kill a single enemy and still gain certs.

There's always going to be situations where you won't be able to achieve as much as another class... It's all part of the dynamic/persistent battlefield which isn't in any other games.

I cannot see myself playing this game much longer unless I feel like a 20-30 minute FPS urge. It's just not worth it when people out there spend hundreds of dollars to upgrade every aspect of their infantry, vehicles, and aircraft, to become more "skilled" than you.

Well, I've been playing for over a month, not every day but a good 4/5 times a week and I still enjoy it immensly.

I spent £30 on the alpha pack to support the game, I wont be spending anymore money and dont see that I need to.

By the way, Tribes Ascend is a much better system than this one.  I'd rather see Tribes scaled up to an MMOFPS than play PS2 as it stands today.

As others have noted, and I have been saying since Planetside 1, the experience is clunky.  For some reason, SOE seems to have a team that is not very good at working with physics in a way which makes the game feel smooth and substantial.  Compared to all the other FPS games out there, PS2 still feels cheap to me.

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. Like all MMO's out of the gate this one certainly has it's troubles.

As for the point, have fun and I don't see that happening to anyone that just wants to solo. This game is meant for good teamwork. I have already shown it to about 1/2 dozen people, most that can't stand Call of Duty and some that don't care for FPS's, so far they can't put the thing down. Maybe it's that "new" factor but I (we) are having blast and have not spent a dime, yet. Some of these large battles are pretty spectacular.

P2W? I took out my BR6 engineer last night and was taking out BR20+, without assistance. So here is a tip, aim for head! I have yet to feel overpowered because someone has a ton of upgrades.

Hopefully they will work out the kinks and add some new dynamics into the mix. As it stands today, they are off to a pretty good start.

Look, you lot can argue about this all you want, that's fine. But don't even try to turn your opinions into facts.

The FACT is: hundreds of people have been enjoying PS2 since Beta, even more do so now.

But I guess if you can't enjoy it, no one should? Heh.

Boring game IMO.  If I'm going to play an FPS, it might as well be something like CS.  The whole capturing/defending bases, going up against vehicles that your class can't damage, getting run over by teammates thing.. is not what I'm looking for.
