I shared my opinion and broke the rules. WTF!!

I was infractured for the post below and they swiftly deleted it.  This is what Anet has come to?  give an opinion whether I was correct in that opinion/thought doesnt really matter.  What really is annoying though is that they have threads on the first page that are probably a lot more provoking than what I created.  The Moderator note is even more laughable from my perspective.

This is an automated message. Your post in Original team not running this game anymore?was infracted.

Your original post in Original team not running this game anymore?:

I sat down and had some real thinking about recent events both ingame and in the forums. The severe lack of communication from both Colin and Brian and the recent sale of shares to Nexon in NCsoft. Nobody from Arenanet seems interested to put to bed players fears about hot subjects in the forums.

Would you think I’d be right in thinking then that Guild wars 2 is no longer controlled by the same people who brought us this game? Have Colin and Brian and their team been given a new project to work on, and that the game is now under the influence of someone from Nexon or some other body that has their own ideas and what they want to do with this game?

No need for tin foil hats on this one, just a general feel I have about this game now, and feel its going to go in a different direction that I was sold on, well it already has imo.

Moderator Notes:

Threads of this type are against our forum Code of Conduct. Please refrain from making such threads, as it does not assist members with support issues and concerns.

EDIT: To be clear this was from the official Guildwars 2 forum not from other fan sites or MMORPG.com.

    I wonder what mmorpg.com mean by "such threads".  I am of opinion that they should be more specific.

    This wasn't posted here. The mods here are actually pretty awesome and have a high tolerance rate.

    It is called damage control. This just proves even more there is no accountability from developers.

    You broke their forum Code of Conduct, plain and simple. Opinions, etc, etc, etc, are all held accountable no matter if you think you did no wrong. These rules are in all forums so I suggest you read them again to make sure you do not receive another infracture.

    P.S- Your opinion on your topic could have caused problems. You honestly do not know for sure if the original team is gone. You got what was due for doing it. Live with it like we all have when we get infractures, warnings,  and bans for having opinions as well. It's really good advice :)

    Have you actually looked at the official forums and seen what threads are there and the opinions others have placed? those threads are still there, and I would say some of them are a lot more strong in opinions than what I put.

  • jdnewelljdnewell Member UncommonPosts: 2,237

    I bet if his "opinion" would have been along the lines of - Best Game ever- That would have been perfectly fine.

    But since his " opinion' is a little negative with a genuine concern of probably many players. Well then thats a problem.

    Hmmmmm........

    Am I the only one who things that the OP's post was just a 'clever' way to say that "Nexon took over and the game sucks now?"

    If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.

    The ANet mods infract and delete any negative threads. They also merge threads like mad which makes it very difficult to hold proper discussions. I've noticed they've loosened their grip a bit in the last week but they're still some of the most agressive mods I've seen.

    As for the OP's thread, yeah it was a genuine discussion topic, it was speculation and asking for opinions, there wasn't anything overly negative or agressive in it. At most it was critical and suggesting a possible explanation for the failures. There's no reason to delete a thread like that.

    FYI I'm also of the opinion that Colin and Brian have either left or been moved somewhere. Jon Peters has also vanished since his dealings with the ranger community. The mod's tendency to shut down discussions rather than responding to them is actually fuelling the theory as well. The last few weeks have been a major PR disaster for ANet...

    You agree to the following guidelines, which will help cultivate a user-friendly environment in the Guild Wars 2 Forums:

    • Read the forum before asking a question. There’s a good chance your question has already been answered.
    • Use the search function before posting. This will focus the discussion and facilitate a response.
    • Stay on topic and create a new post for tangentially related topics.
    • Do not cross post. Post your message once in the appropriate sub-forum and nowhere else; otherwise it will be locked or removed without warning.
    • Use a relevant thread title that clearly expresses the subject of the thread.
    • Avoid frivolous and duplicate postings.
    • The official language of this forum is English . Please post and respond in that language only.
    • Signatures may not exceed three lines of text with a maximum of 100 characters per line; signatures may not contain images.
    • Do not post in all capital letters; do not use “leetspeek,” excessive punctuation, colored text, alternating lower case and capital letters, etc. Please refrain from these and other similar attention-seeking tactics to draw attention to your post. Let your post stand on its own merits.
    • Do not spam. This includes bumping threads or making posts that lack content.
    • Be respectful. Be pleasant to forum members, staff members, and moderators.
    • Do not use profanity, insults, or personal attacks. If you have a problem with another member, contact a moderator.
    • Do not engage in staff call-outs. Using the words “ArenaNet” or any staff member’s name will not expedite the answer to your query.
    • Do not engage in personal attacks against forum moderators or ArenaNet staff. You may contact staff directly at [email protected] if you wish to discuss a staff member’s decision. Please note that abuse of staff members or moderators in forum posts or private messages may result in forum account termination.
    • Do not submit “trolling” posts or threads. We define “trolling” as commenting in a manner intended to elicit overly strong negative and emotional responses for mere shock value, attempting to derail threads, persistently posting off-topic, or engaging in personal attacks on another forum member. Accounts made with the sole intent to “troll” will be terminated.
    • Do not engage in personal attacks against forum members or in character assassination. Posts that attack another member, that single out a player for ridicule, or that accuse someone of inappropriate in-game actions will be removed without notice. In-game violations should be reported directly to our Support Team. If you believe that using the support system did not result in a sufficient or timely response, you may post your concern in the Support section of the forums.
    • Do not debate Customer Support decisions or actions. Threads or posts designed to announce, appeal, or contest your own or another player’s suspension or account termination—be it forum or game account—will be removed without notice.
    • Do not post about locked, deleted, or otherwise moderated threads or posts. Moderation happens for a reason. A staff member or moderator may lock a thread before posting in order to promptly curtail continued comments. If you have yet to see a comment by a staff member on a locked thread, please wait for the comment to appear and do not post a new thread on the subject. If you have questions regarding forum moderation, send an email to [email protected].
    • Do not circumvent the word filter. The Support Forum, like the game, is filtered for appropriate language. Any attempt to circumvent this filter will not be tolerated including the use of “creative spelling” or of forum names or signatures that contain a word that is censored by the prohibited words filter.
    • Do not post petitions, “I demand an answer” threads, conspiracy threads, or comments about circumventing the rules.
    • Do not post on behalf of a suspended or banned user.
    • Do not make alternate forum accounts. Users are permitted one account per person. Alternate accounts will be terminated, and users involved in creating alternate accounts will be subject to discipline at the discretion of the moderator staff.
    • Do not post any information in this forum that is covered by any form of NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement). Such information will be removed and the member’s forum account will be terminated. Further, if the game is an ArenaNet game, the post will be removed, and the related ArenaNet game account will be terminated. Such breaches may also result in your disqualification from participation in any future ArenaNet testing programs and/or your removal from all other current ArenaNet testing programs.
    • Do not breach the Guild Wars 2 User Agreement. Any post or thread in which a player admits to violating the Guild Wars 2 User Agreement, encourages others to violate the Guild Wars 2 User Agreement, or violates the Guild Wars 2 User Agreement itself will be removed and the forum account will be terminated.
    • Do not post legal action threads. Using the forums or PMs to encourage, promote, endorse, or incite any kind of legal action against the company or any individual is strictly prohibited. Such content will be removed, and the author’s posting privileges will be permanently revoked.
    • If you wish to report a post, use the Report Post button located on the post in question. Please, do not create a new forum thread linking to posts or threads that you feel should be moderated. Reported posts will be reviewed by the moderator staff and addressed as necessary.
    • You are responsible for making sure that your account information, particularly your email address, is current and complete.
    • All forum content is permitted or removed at the discretion of ArenaNet.

    You further agree not take any action, upload, post, email, or otherwise transmit any content that:

    • infringes or violates any third party rights;
    • violates any law or regulation;
    • transmits real-life personal information about other players or ArenaNet personnel;

    • is harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortuous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another’s privacy, hateful, or is racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable;
    • that insultingly refers to any aspect of sexual orientation pertaining to themselves or other players;
    • which insultingly portrays major religions or religious figures;
    • which promotes hatred of any kind, including that based on nation, race, religion, age, sex, gender orientation, or culture.
    • that refers to violent sexual acts or real life violent actions, pornography, inappropriate references to human anatomy or bodily functions, gratuitously offensive content, or content which refers to violence in any capacity that is not directly related to the game world;
    • would violate any right or duty under any law or under contractual or fiduciary relationships (such as inside information or proprietary and confidential information learned or disclosed as part of employment relationships or under non-disclosure agreements)
    • advertises any businesses, organizations, or websites; shows unreleased in-game items, equipment, or areas that have been unlocked via hacking into client data files

    In addition, you agree not to do any of the following:

    • Impersonate any person or entity, including, but not limited to, an ArenaNet employee, or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity;
    • Take any action, upload, post, email, link to, or otherwise transmit any content as determined by ArenaNet in its sole discretion that contains any cheats, hacks, viruses, Trojan horses, worms, time bombs, cancelbots or other computer programming routines that are intended to damage, detrimentally interfere with, surreptitiously intercept or expropriate any system, data, or personal information. If you would like to legitimately report such material, please contact our Customer Support Team;
    • Upload, post, email or otherwise transmit any unsolicited or unauthorized advertising, promotional materials, “junk mail,” “spam,” “chain letters,” “pyramid schemes,” or any other form of solicitation;

    • Attempt to gain access to a password, other account information, or other private information. Remember: ArenaNet and NCsoft personnel will NEVER ask for your password. Do not reveal your password, reminder words, or billing information to anyone;
    • Advertise or solicit the sale or trade of a Guild Wars 2 account; advertise or solicit the sale or trade of any account or item related to another game; advertise or solicit the sale of gold or items for real world currency; promote or aid in any such transaction;

    • Provide false information or intentionally hide any information when registering for your Guild Wars 2 account;
    • Post profanity or otherwise objectionable content in your profile.
    • “Stalk” or otherwise harass another member.

    You agree that ArenaNet may take whatever steps it deems necessary to maintain a suitable forum environment at its sole discretion and without notice to you.

    We believe that this Code of Conduct is based on common sense. The rules are intended to keep the Guild Wars 2 Forums a useful and constructive place for players to interact with other players and with ArenaNet staff members. We ask for your cooperation and support in creating a healthy, constructive place to achieve these goals.

    Thank you for being a part of the Guild Wars 2 Forums! We welcome your suggestions and feedback on how to make this a better place for players with customer support concerns. Please send an email to [email protected], and we will be pleased to review it. Due to the volume of mail we receive, we cannot answer every email, but we read everything.

    If you read the GW2 official forums much you'd notice that his opinion is actually quite a widely held suspicion at this point. There are a lot of posts lately that make inferences to the same effect, the OP is just the first person to try and openly discuss it. It's a valid discussion topic in my opinion; if management of the team has changed then we deserve to know as it will change the direction of the game (as has already happened).

    The same thing happens here on this site. The moderaters get upset when you make a comment about games they like. It's a pretty goofy setup on forums. Forums aren't worth hiring decent people, let alone paying them. Moderators on forums are just people on power trips. I doubt anet directly would just delete your post.

    Pretty sure I'll either get a warning or another ban for this post as well. I've said less worse things than this and it's happened. It just proves my point though.

    Nexon is a great company, they have bought out MANY companies in the past and did not take creative control of the games from their makers yet...they are not EA. All Nexon is going to do is boost Anet with a ton of cash...you do know they are the second largest gaming company on the planet now right?

    So that forum rule gives ANet to power to remove any post that even mentions the company or staff no matter what it's about, yeh that's much better. (psst, it's not really better, it's much worse; no more free speech).

    If the OP did get that post deleted then it's bad. The post clearly shows they don't really know if the GW2 team is different for anyone that can actually read english. It was used as a way to exaggerate their point.. a way of saying 'this isn't the same game anymore'

    Erm... If/when he does that he will discover a whole new level of red tape.

    Basically if you appeal given the link to an email (that you get with your infraction) you recieve a return email 10 minutes later with a link to NCSoft's support system and not ArenaNets. Difference being ArenaNet seems to usually respond within 24 hours - NCSoft: Somewhere between a week and infinity!

    How do I know? Well I am waiting for a response.

    I had the audacity to respond with: What???

    When someone said Thanks ArenaNet (Was in the title but I doubt he got an infration) and proceeded to explain that he realized that ArenaNet were the developers behind CoX.

    It was a complete surprise to me and I responded: What???

    And OFC I promptly recieved an infraction...

    And YES: What??? is worthy of an infraction on GW2 Forums... Talk about sensitive!

    (Hint: Hit the links for an image of SS or it did not happen)

    We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!!
    (repeat ad infinitum)

    What a bunch of hogwash.  Try typing "Nexon" in Urban Dictionary and see how many "Nexon is a great company" results you get.  I'll save you the trouble.  None.  They are just like, if not worse than EA.  They are going to ruin the MMORPG industry with their P2W cash shops, treadmills, and their overall greed. Mark my words.

    To the topic of the GW2 forums.  I challenge anyone to post anything that does not agree with the recent change to post on their forum.  Those moderators are not only heavy-handed, they are abusive in their authority.  I have seen posts deleted for simply +1 other threads.  It can be as benign as simply disagreeing with another poster who sucked up to Anet.  It is unfathonable what is going on in those forums.  Bans are being dished out left and right at an alarming rate to decent paying customers who are simply voicing their displeasure, in a reasonably respectable manner, regarding recent changes.  Those of you posting in disbelief and attempting to defend Anet have no idea.  Stop defending this company.  They do not deserve it.  I, for one, will never spend another penny on anything with the names "Arena Net," "Nexon," or NCSoft" attached to them.

    Glad botrytis is the last person left defending GW2 and this company management is getting the heat it deserves.

    I was banned twice and i've had a topic locked/deleted under "trolling" when it was about 2000 words and provided suggestions to make WvW better.

    Is their WvW so good that me stating it has an un-countable number of flaws considered trolling to them? Can they not fathom that their game has problems?

    I wrote and deleted a wall of text to save you the pain of quickly scrolling down.

    In my opinion the post is not a good reason the ban someone from the forums. biggarfoot, try to appeal. I'm not sure if it'll help, but it doesn't hurt to try.

    In the last 1/2 of the year, it seems there's been a paradigm shift inside the company, at least on some level, and it's gradually becoming more evident. The conceptual changes certainly don't look for the better to me, but if it's true that these changes are a consequence of the staff/investors' change, nothing good can come from hiding it.

    Good reputation is hard to build, easy to lose, and extremely hard to regain once it's lost.

    I'm not particularly optimistic about the current direction of the game, and the communication between the company and its customers.

    You seem to have overlooked the moderator's reply, that your comment "What?" was basically useless and off topic, and yes, such comments are moderated regularly on official company forums, which is why I normally hang around here instead.
