Looking for a 3rd person Action RPG

azzamasinazzamasin Member UncommonPosts: 3,105

Anyone know of a good in depth 3rd person action style RPG or single player game.  Would prefer Fantasy setting and open world design.  Anyone play Gothic 4?

Games Ive played and either beat or didnt like:

  • Skyrim or any TES game
  • Just Cause 2
  • Darksiders
  • Dragon
  • Reckoning Kingdoms of Amalur
  • Dues Ex
  • Any of the Fallout games
  • Any Japanese RPG
  • Dragon Age

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

Try one of the old school classics -- Baldur's Gate.

Dark Souls....Dark Souls a million times over!

Brilliant game, and for me it never gets old. I'd say for the best experience get it on the PS3. But if you get it for PC, please for the love of god play with a controller! The game is not the greatest PC port, but if you use a controller it is more then fine.

The game has atmosphere, it is challanging, and it doesn't hold your hand at all.

Baldur's Gate enhanced should be coming out soon. So this isn't a bad suggestion either.

    Divinity 2 DKS

    Two Worlds 2

    Risen/Risen 2

    Arx Fatalis

    Witcher/Witcher 2

If by Gothic 4 you mean Arcania, i'll warn you it isn't really a gothic game like the previous ones were. It's very linear. The Risen series is much closer to the originals.

    The witcher 1 & 2

    Dark Souls

Start with those 3. All are great games and will take some time to finish.

Divinity 2 is another decent one.

Risen 1 isnt bad, Risen 2 is IMO not  very good.

Baldurs Gate enhanced will be released soon. Thats not a bad option either for a great classic RPG.

Hi there!  Best APRG I have played in a long time is Drox Operative, by Soldak Games.  It is currently in BETA, but it is almost complete.  You can download a demo for free as well if you like.  It puts a different spin on the whole APRG genre and is fantastic fun! :)

    Kind regards,

the witcher 1&2 definately.the 1st one i thought was better than the second imo

two worlds 2,fantastic game..open world like skyrim

risen.which has a steep learning curve but to me its fantastic and a great looking game

gothic 4 was crap imo..its nothing compared to its predecessors.

    oh risen 2..just bought it

dragon age 2..although not has good as 1st one..the combat is great imo..and there is plenty to do..enough for 40-50 hrs
